SELENE
I was tired of the stress I had to undergo as a secretary to my so-called husband to the extent that it was starting to get on my nerves. I finished up the files eventually and made my way to the office, where he was.
I knocked on the door almost three times, but I got no response from him and after getting a bit frustrated, I just barged into the office without any courtesy.
He looked at me, with a dry expression on his face, not surprised by my presence at all. I hissed, dropping the files on the table.
“These are all the files you told me to work on.”
He didn't look at it and neither did I care. I expected him to say something, but rather he just remained quiet, and after it got a bit frustrating, I turned to leave, realizing that he was just going to remain quiet.
“Wait,” he stopped me.
I cursed my luck, turning to face him with a pretend smile on my face, acting like I cared at all. “Is there any problem, sir?” I asked.
He nodded in response and walked over to me. He was holding the files that I had just brought and handed them to me. “Do a better job and present them back to me.”
I was shocked, wondering why he was trying to taunt me. “But I spent hours on it, and I'm sure that you didn't even bother going through it and just decided that it wasn't good enough.”
He scoffed," Are you lecturing me and trolling me about my job? Do you know better than me?
I couldn't believe that he was using his power on me and I had no choice but to abide by it. I swallowed my pride, taking the files from him, and stood there with a smile.
“Apologies, I'll get it to you soon.”
You have one hour to get it to me, otherwise we're going to have a problem. In fact the hour is long, I want you to get it to me in under thirty minutes.
I couldn't believe what he was spitting out. He had the guts to say that to me when he's the one who's the psycho here. How was I supposed to go over this again in under thirty minutes?
“But thirty minutes is too short, and it's my lunchtime, so I think it's best I just deliver after,” I pleaded with him.
He had a stern expression on his face, acting like he didn't care one bit. “It's better you get this to me in under an hour if you know what's best for you.” He turned to leave, walking back to his seat.
I stood there, frozen, wondering what had just happened and how he was able to taunt me right now. I cursed him, wishing him a bad day ahead, and walked out of his office.
Such a jerk, if I had known that he'd deprive me of my break, then I would never have come to him. Rather, I would've eaten first, I ranted, venting out my anger.
“Are you okay?” My coworker asked.
She was a blonde-haired girl who was probably in her late twenties. She had the prettiest smile and the way she spoke made my heart flutter because of how quirky and cute her voice sounded.
“Yes,” I nodded in response. “I just have to work on these files again otherwise the boss won't give me a break.”
“What?” She opened her mouth agape. But I saw you working on it before. Are you telling me that he told you to work on it again?
I nodded in response, feeling sorry for myself even. “He's such a jerk and I don't know what he has against me, but he's trying to make me miserable,” I commented.
She pouted, feeling bad for me. But it's lunchtime. You can't work on an empty stomach, right?
I nodded in response. “I would just grab something afterward, I would be fine,” I assured her.
She didn't look convinced and suggested, How about I get you something from the canteen? Once you're done working, you'll just eat up.
“It's good, but I don't want to stress you and, moreover, it might have gotten so cold and not edible for me.”
“It's okay, I will get it at the last minute.”
She was being the kindest and to think that this was the first time I had actually met her, but yet she was being such a sweetheart to me.
“I'm Samantha by the way,” she introduced herself, stretching forth her hands to shake mine.
I smiled and shook hands with her. “I'm Isabella.”
I was using my sister's identity since I didn't want anyone to get suspicious or anything and just wanted to stay away from my title. I don't want things to change once they figure out my title.
“Nice to meet you.”
She left after that to go eat. I was grateful for her presence and even though I felt alone, I was a bit happy that I wasn't the only one working during the break period.

*BACK AT THE LYCAN MANSION*
“I heard that you went to the company today, how was it?” Luther’s mother asked.
“It wasn't that bad, but it was a new experience.”
She smiled and patted me gently on the shoulder. You know that you don't have to work. You're the queen, and you should live like one, but I won't force you to do what I want.
Her words made me melt, she was really a sweetheart, so I pulled her into a hug. She was definitely surprised but hugged me back gently, patting my back. I didn't even know her for long, but I was already crying.
She was leaving for a few months to get better, and I didn't even know when she'd get back and was starting to feel sad. “I'm going to miss you a lot.”
She chuckled softly and pulled me away slowly. Stop acting like I'm dying or something, child. I'm only going for treatment and will be back soon, so don't worry.
I smiled and nodded in response, then Luther came in dressed in a tank top, making my breath hitch.
Damn! He was hot.
