Chapter 11, Betrayed Sarah's POV Sarah cries as tears fall down. Her hands were getting tired as her feet and legs. She wanted to let go. Drop down and be done with it all. She had been waiting there all night long. Was Jareth that cruel? So evil as to make her wait the though a whole night? Normally he was there in a blink of an eye to rescue her. But not tonight. But not now! What had changed in him? Was he angered with her? Did he hate her? Did he truly not love her? Was this all for money? For power as her mother had claimed for him to be? She could not trust her heart after all. She thought he would be there by now. But he was not. Tears stream down her dirty cheeks. Her hands tremble. She was about to let go. This was it. She was going to do it. She was going to just let go. Come what may after. She closes her eyes then braces herself for the fall. Just as she goes to let go someone grabs her hand. A strong pair of arms pull her up. Her heart leaps in her throat. Someone was rescuing her at long last. They had found her! She glances up into her hero's eyes. She was startled to find it was King Torto. Not her beloved Jareth there to rescue her. He brings her to the cliff. She was safe. She was free at long last. She gratefully hugs him. She never been so scared before. He hugs her back. ☪︎︎ ✫︎☪︎︎ ✫︎☪︎ "I was so scared no one was going to come find me" she softly says as she holds on tightly to him. "I will always look out for you dear princess" promises the king. "I thought he would come for me" she softly says as she is filled with utter disappointment. "Who dear?" "Never mind" mutter Sarah. Maybe her mother was right after all this time. Tears fell. "Who?" "Jareth. He always is there looking out for me. But not this time. He was not there" Sarah explains to him. "I can't believe he failed me" "Sarah why did you take off?" says the king. She blushes. "I did it to prove to mother Jareth was looking out for me. That he had my best interest at heart. And he would find me. But he proved me wrong. Mother was right" grumbles an angered Sarah. "You cannot count on the likes of him" says the king. "no one can. Jareth can only count on Jareth. He only looks out for himself" "I suppose you are right" she agrees sadly. "Let's get you home. And warm. You need a bath and some warm tea. Rest too" he adds. "That sounds wonderful" she tells him. ☪︎︎ ✫︎☪︎︎ ✫︎☪︎ He places an arm around her shoulder as they go to head back home. Maybe she should marry king Torto. He found her. He looked out for her. Jareth left her there. A while owl flies to join them. Then Jareth forms before them. He looked worried. "Your mother came to me and told me you took off" says Jareth. "As you see I found her. She is safe no thanks to you" snaps king Torto. "What did I do?" Jareth asks. He looked so confused. "What did you do?" she mimics' him. "nothing nothing at all" "Come on Sarah, you do not need him. Let's get you home" orders king Torto. "Goodbye Jareth" she tells him as they leave him standing there looking bewildered. When she gets home, she takes a warm bath the ladies in waiting have ready for her. The hot bath was perfect for her aching feet. She changed into clean clothing later and her mother had dinner for her. Warm food. Bread fresh from the oven. A roast with vegetables. A real feast. ☪︎︎ ✫︎☪︎︎ ✫︎☪︎ "Sarah why did you run away? Did I make you want to leave?" worries her mother. "No mother not at all" she explains her plan while she eats. Her mother hugs her. "I told you. I tried to warn you that Jareth only looks out for himself" her mother tells her. Sarah nods with tears in her eyes. "I think you are right" "You should marry king Torto. He will keep you safe. He will look out for you" says her mother. "I shall marry him. Tell him, I accept" says Sarah. "Wonderful! How wonderful!" exclaims her mother with joy. Her heart sinks. She wanted Jareth to love her. That was all she wanted. Not the kingdom. Money or fame. She wanted his love. But she was never to have his heart. As he had hers. Even if she married this other king Jareth was always going to keep her heart though he would never know it. "Are you pained Sarah dear?" her mother asks once she sees Sarah in tears. "I will be fine mother. I need to rest is all" says Sarah. Her mother nods. She kisses Sarah's forehead. Sarah finishes her meal. Then snuggles into bed. ☪︎︎ ✫︎☪︎︎ ✫︎☪︎ "Sarah I am delighted you shall be my queen. I shall never let you down" Torto says coming into her room. "are you alright?" he worries. "I am fine thanks to you" she says with a nod. "thank you Torto" "You are most welcome my princess" he says to her. He smiles then she smiles back. He was handsome in his own way. But he was not Jareth. "Let her rest" orders her mother. "she had a rough day" They go outside her room. The lights were out. A fire was roaring in her fire place to keep her warm. "Something, must be done about that awful Jareth" her mother was complaining to Torto in the hall. Sarah rests her head on her pillow. She was at last safe and warm. "What can be done?" wonders the king. "We will lock him up. Take away his powers. He hurt our Sarah. She might try to do something once again" worries her mother. "I shall get him taken care of. You leave Jareth to me. No more harm will come to our beloved princess" the king was saying before Sarah closes her eyes to go to sleep. Little did she know the white owl flies into her room while she slept. He forms before her. ☪︎︎ ✫︎☪︎︎ ✫︎☪︎ "I tried dear Sarah. I don't know how he got there before me. You know I have never let you down. How can you think that way of me?" he softly says to her as he watches her sleep. He brushes her hair from her cheek. Looking at her with love. "I would do anything for you" He leans down planting a kiss on her cheek. Before he can fly away into the night they grab him. "Where are you taking me?" he orders to know as the guards drag him away. "Take him to the dungeon below" orders the queen. "we will deal with the likes of you Jareth. Stay away from Sarah" she warns. "Hold it!" orders Torto. He digs into Jareth's pockets. He takes the crystals. "You won't be needing these" laughs Torto. "SARAH!" he calls out. But she can't hear his cries as they drag him away. Locking him up without his powers. He was helpless. He could no longer watch over his Sarah. •~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•
