Chapter 5, Within You

Sarah's POV

Sarah could not believe he lied to her again! He made her feel like she was the only one in the world for him. That they would be together forever. That they were meant to marry each other. For money. All for money this whole time. Sarah feels bitter tears flowing down her face.

She should be happy to know her real mom. And to get to know a dad who had wanted her. But all she could do was focus on Jareth's lies. He really hurt her.

Here she thought maybe he had loved her. Really loved her. But he was always after something from her. It certainly was not love. She nearly told the man she loved him.

Well goblin...

She was in love with him. She was going to be forced to marry him, right? They were going to be husband and wife. Right now, she did not feel like company at all.

She wanted to mend her broken heart she was dealing with here. It was a bit hot. Maybe she was not used to this princess dress. It was making her stuffy. She wanders over to the window and opens it. Then changes into night clothing.

She lays on the bed. Tears flow yet again over Jareth. He lied to her. She dabs the tissue near her eyes. Trying hard not to cry over Jareth. But she could not help herself. She was sure he was not off crying over her. He was furious with her. She sighed. What was the right thing to do? She was too young to marry off.

Suddenly much to her dismay a pure white owl flies into her room. Her heart skips a beat. Jareth. He forms before her. Glitter flies about them as he changes. He smiles sadly at her.

"I was hoping you kept that window open Sarah" he tells me.

"Go away, Jareth" she mutters. "we have nothing left to say to one another" she bitterly remarks.

"But we have plenty to say. We are to wed Sarah. And we will bringing both kingdoms together" he points out.

"You only want me for the money Jareth. You got what you really wanted" she snaps at him. He grabs her by the wrist.

"What I really wanted? You think that is what I really wanted? After I have done for you?" he states. "I did so much for you."

"You saved me. I thanked you. Now leave me alone Jareth" she mutters. "I want to be alone"

"Sarah there is much to talk about" he softly says.

"Okay talk. What is there to talk about?" she asks him.

"I am sorry for not telling you that I was getting paid to bring you home. I wanted you home once I got to know you Sarah" he tells me. "now it is not about the money at all" he tells her.

"Just go! You kept it didn't you?" she challenges him.

"Well, yes"

"I knew it"

"Sarah what can I do to prove...."

"Prove what? What do you have to possibly prove to me?" she stammers. "we are going to marry. I was promised to you. You got what you wanted!" she mutters.

"I never got what I wanted" he sadly says. "I don't think I ever will"

His eyes look sadly into hers then he changes into an owl. He takes off into the night.

What was all that about? She felt more confused than ever before.

Sara goes to bed for the night. Trying to fall asleep in her new home. When she gets up to join the queen for breakfast, she hears talking in the dining room area. She hears Jareth's voice. What was he doing there so early in the morning talking with her mother.

"I give you this back. It has no meaning for me" he tells her.

"That was all you had always been after. Now you give it back?" her mother says looking confused.

"There is something more I want. More than this" he tells her.

What was it he wanted?!

Sarah looks over. He returned the money. Her heart sticks in her chest.

Why was he doing this?

"But your kingdom is suffering greatly. You need this money" states her mother. "Take it"

"No there is something I need to prove. That I need more than this money. We have been fine. We don't need it" he tells her.

"Just take it" states her mother. "Stubborn man" she yells.

She sees him change into an owl then fly off again. She comes in the room. The money was there. How badly was he needing this money? Did he give it back because of what she said to him? That he got what he wanted? What did he truly want?

"Mother what is going on?" asks Sarah.

"Jareth was by. He brought back the money. He is so stupid. His kingdom is falling under. Waiting for King Torto to take over it" sighs her mother. "this money would have saved him"

"Jareth is in trouble?" worries Sarah.

"Much so" says her mother.

Her heart leaps in her chest.

"I know why he returned the money" she says to her mother.

"Oh, why is that?" asks her mother.

"Me. I told him it hurt me that I was only worth money to him. And he gave it up for me" she stammers. "he gave up his kingdom for me?" Sarah says feeling in aw of Jareth now.

"No Sarah he is a selfish man. He has other reasons. He knows if he keeps you and marries you then he has this kingdom to fall back on if he loses his is all" her mother points out. "do not get any notions in your head about that Jareth. He is nothing but trouble. He only looks out for himself. His own game" her mother tells her.

"I think he has changed. Something came over him" Sarah says in a day dreamy voice. Did he care for her?

After all?!

"Sarah wait until this party today. In your honor. You will meet that King Torto. And you will really fall in love. He is really something compared to Jareth. Wait and see" says her mother.

"But I am promised to marry Jareth" says Sarah. "you made a deal"

"Deals were made to be broken" says her mother.

"That is not fair to Jareth" says Sarah with anger.

"Life is not fair Sarah. We don't always get what we desire" sighs her mother. "let's forget about that silly Jareth. Let's eat"

"Fine" sighs Sarah.

Her heart was so full of confusion. She could not focus. Maybe once she met this other king she would know in her heart the right thing to be doing.

She did not want Jareth to lose his kingdom. To lose everything because of her. He gave up his money that would have saved them. All because of her childishness. How could he do that for her?

He had to care of her in his heart. She just knew he did. How was she going to get him to show her? Admit to her? She had feelings deeply for him. And she was scared to let him know if he did not feel the same way. Was her heart to be broken forever?
