"You want me to stay with you?" Anna asked as we pulled up on her bike. It wasn't the first time she had carried me like this, and usually, she would create a scene revving the engine and then leaving burnout and smoke as she sped off, but as she came to a halt by the gates and the security guards stopped to look at her usually eccentric self, Anna got off with me and leaned on the handles. "I know you don't want to be here." She spoke again and for a moment I really did think of going away with her or accepting her proposal to stay, but I knew both outcomes would lead to some kind of conflict later on. "I'm sure I'll be fine somehow." I shrugged and fixed the bag on my shoulder. "I'm gonna have a lot to do today even though its evening classes, so I'll see you later." I turned to leave but she reached across and grabbed my hand, I swear the way she was behaving would have made anyone think we were in some kind of relationship. "What?" "You didn't put in your contacts." She pointed at my eyes and I clapped my cheek, but then just sighed the shock away. "I never needed them, to begin with, and now I don't have to live with that discomfort again, I can be my natural self," I admitted, thinking about it even got me a bit excited, but I saw the worry on her face after I said it, and I understood what she was likely thinking. "Am I really gonna lose you bit by bit like this?" Anna let go of my hand with a grief-stricken frown, walking around the bike and taking my cheeks in her palms, she was taller than I am so it felt like a big sister moment to me, especially since I saw the concern in her eyes. "I know there's a process, you're gonna go through some stuff, but please Kay, don't change too much, I don't want to lose you, whatever happens, you're my sister, and I love you." She folded my bangs behind my ear and kissed my forehead. "Call me if anything happens." "Okay." I slowly squeezed her hands and put them down. "You're making a scene again." I pointed it out and she scoffed and smiled back, of course, she didn't care, I don't believe this girl was born with a shred of embarrassment regardless of what situation, I always liked her honesty, one of her best and most humbling traits. When I turned to leave I found several people staring at us, and I got it, anyone that didn't know me, or her from high school, were likely sure that we were together, it just looked that way because of how she treated me, I didn't care either, it was none of their businesses to begin with. "Kay!" She called back to me when I passed the security gate running up to a stop and dropping her hands lightly on my shoulders. "I almost forgot." She reached into her pocket and pulled out another pendant attached to a necklace, everyone else's broke too so we got spares from the cellar this morning, I knew they didn't plan on giving you any so I took one for you." She smiled, and without hesitating, I turned around and raised my hair so she could place it around my neck. "They are definitely gonna think I'm your badass biking girlfriend after this huh?" She asked, and I chuckled at the thought. "Stay safe baby girl." She said, not even waiting for my response as she walked off back to her bike and like all the times before, I stood there and watched as she created another scene and sped off with a wheelie, damn... That had always been the coolest s**t I see her do. "Isn't that heartwarming." I heard, and immediately the pendant began vibrating on my neck. "She's right too, if I didn't know you, and who you belong to I'd have been certain she was your girl." Justin stood next to me watching as Anna turned the corner and then looked at me. "Jason told me what happened at your home last night, are you okay?" He asked, but I didn't care what he wanted or said, I'd originally thought Jason was the asshole but it was clearly him, everything he said and did seemed to be some kind of jab or insult, he was infuriating to even look at. "Fine... thanks for asking." I spun on my heel and stepped away, I wished he'd simply leave me alone, but the pendant kept vibrating, and I could clearly hear his footsteps right behind me as he followed me to the library, which was where I'd be spending the first half of the day until my classes started. "Where's Jason?" I asked when we were at the entrance of the library. "He has classes all day, he'll likely come find you after his current class though." He answered surprisingly normally and walked pass me looking at the shelves. "Why are you following me around, are you his lackey or something?" I asked taunting a response, and saw the man's shoulders stiffen from what I'd said. "Let's be clear about something Mikayla, killing you is no loss, nothing is stopping me from tearing you apart." He picked a book and turned to me, and again the pendant started shaking. "Not even your brother?" I leaned my head. "Especially my brother." He smiled. "In fact, I'd even go as far as saying owes me a life since he's the one who killed the last girl I marked, so don't think for a second that you're immune because you have the Alphas favour, just in case you're forgetting, he's my twin, I am also the Alpha, it's a shared leadership." He pointed out, and indeed I did keep forgetting, because when I thought about our previous encounter, it just seemed like Jason was more in charge than Justin was. "So does that mean you want to kill me then, and the only thing stopping you is your brother, even if it is by a small thread?" I asked. "Naturally, what use are you aside from his mate, you're a hunt, raised and bred in the teachings of killing my kind, that makes you my enemy, if Jason hadn't marked you when he did, or rather had he not told me beforehand his intentions then you as well as the rest of your family would have already been dead by my hands." Justin scoffed and took a seat. "I thought you said they weren't my family." I sat next to him, laying my stuff aside and staring at him for an answer. "Isn't it obvious?" He asked and I froze. "You smell like hair dye, you were wearing fake eyes to fool everyone, and most importantly, every family has their own scent, and you smell nothing like those humans." He explained a little, holding on his face a bearing of disgust as he thought of them. "What's that supposed to mean?" I asked and he looked at me with the same look he had and sighed. "You'll know soon enough, why spoil something so early on?" He asked with a small smirk then turned his book open and started from the first page. "If you value your life at all, leave the hunts and submit to the Alpha." "What the f**k does that mean?" I snapped but he didn't even bother showing any expression at my outburst, instead he got up and went to the other side of the table and continued reading.
