I didn’t know how long I was asleep but a metallic squeak woke me out of my slumber. I sat up in my ell, watching a small sliver of light fall into the dark basement. A small figure with a hood over their head approached quietly. “Shh,” they hushed as they fumbled with a set of keys to open the lock. They didn’t have to tell me twice. After a couple of attempts, the lock clicked and the stranger pulled the door open for me. They tossed me a blue cape and a bottle of water before checking the coast was clear.
