HIS HIDDEN FEELING FOR THE MAID
I am Mae, 25 years old now. Life is very hard for us because we have a lot of bills to pay. I stopped studying in Grade 12. I was 18 when I stopped because life was really hard. I always helped my mom in the field and in selling because I willingly stopped studying since I didn’t want her to suffer. I have three siblings and I am the youngest. My siblings already have their own families, and I don’t want to have a family so I won’t leave my mom. My mom told me that my aunt wanted me to go to Manila to work. I felt a bit sad but I thought about my mom. “My sister said she can bring you to the place where she works, in a mansion in Manila,” my mom told me. I was unsure if I should go or not, but we needed money so I said yes. “Okay, Mama,” I said yes to what she said. A few days passed and I was about to leave to go to my aunt. After several hours of travel I arrived at the mansion, I just told the taxi driver the address that my mom gave me. “Hello?” Someone opened the gate and I saw my aunt waiting inside. “Hello, Auntie…” I said to her. “So you’re Mae? You’ve become so beautiful and grown so much.” I felt shy about what my aunt said but I thanked her. “Thank you, Auntie.” I noticed that it was quiet there in their mansion. Maybe their employer just went out. My aunt suddenly spoke: “There’s no need for an interview here so tomorrow you can already start.” I was amazed by what my aunt said because there was no need for an interview here. I asked her where my room would be. She pointed it to me. “This is your room, and we are the only ones here.” “Is that so? Okay, Auntie.” She introduced to me the other housemaids. “This is Jane, Nene, Joan, Maria, they will teach you what to do.” “…Yes, Auntie…” After agreeing to what she said, I went to my room and arranged my clothes. It was already a bit late so I ate first because they said I needed to wake up at 6 in the morning because our employer would arrive. After eating, they went ahead to sleep. “Goodnight, Mae,” my aunt called to me before she went upstairs. “Yes, Auntie, goodnight. Thank you,” I said to her. I went inside my room and started fixing first…..
