The big secret
Jason thought he was being subtle but when his phone buzzed again while the Roscoe’s were all watching tv, he knew Robbie could tell something was going on. Slipping his phone from his back pocket he noticed Aaron’s name at the top of his screen, glancing between the tv and his phone Jason couldn't help grinning as he texted back. None of his brothers knew he was gay or that he had a boyfriend and he wasn't going to tell them just yet. He knew Joe would convince Lindsay to have him around for tea, and his other brothers teasing and crude jokes could ruin what he had with Aaron, or really upset him and that wasn't something Jason wanted, even if the other man had three older sisters, he knew the Roscoe's were a lot for anyone to handle. Seeing Aaron had texted him a picture Jason slipped from his place on the floor next to Robbie and bounded up the stairs. ‘Jase where you going?’ ‘Just gotta check something on my English coursework.’ ‘At this time?’ ‘Just checking something’ Shutting his and Robbie’s door he leaned against it and pressed his favourite contact. ‘You’re gonna get me into trouble with pics like that.’ ‘Well Mr Roscoe do I get to see what I was dreaming about last night or will I have to settle for a picture?’ ‘You dreaming bout me again babe?’ ‘Hard not to especially when you text shower pics. That body is a walking fantasy. Those abs. And that ass damn specially since it's still got my handprints all over it.’ ‘You are so naughty we aren't having phone s*x again. We’ll get caught, I’ll tell the boys I've gotta go grab some work from Holly or Pheebs. Your parents gone again?’ ‘Yeah’ ‘I'm sorry babe I’d sneak you in here or I’d sneak out and spend the night there but...’ ‘Robbie would definitely have a few choice words or would rat you out for going missing for a night.’ ‘If you mean s*x jokes and teasing for the rest of my life yeah.’ He could hear Aaron sigh a soft laugh down the phone. ‘How about a cheeky pic to keep you entertained till I can sneak out?’ ‘I’d think you were amazing and remember just how much I love you.’ ‘Love you too A. By the way baby that pic was smoking. No touching till I get there.’ Hanging up the phone Jason couldn't help smirk as he threw his top off, dragging his shorts to hang low on his hips and posed in front of the mirror. Robbie knew his twin was acting weird and when he practically ran up the stairs claiming coursework problems, he couldn't help look at Freddie, the second oldest Roscoe shooting him a similar look of confusion. ‘Rob has Jase mentioned any fit girls at school?’ ‘Bit young for you aren't they Fred?’ ‘For Jase you pillock.’ ‘No, he's friends with that Holly but anytime I try and wind him up about her he just says she's not his type and moves on.’ Hearing Jason on the phone Robbie jumped up and raced up the stairs hoping to catch his brother doing something he shouldn't, Jase was always the golden child being the youngest, so Robbie knew his mum would be disappointed if Jason was hiding a girl from them, she’d make Joe and Linds invite her round in a heartbeat, might even try to come back from Canada to meet her. Hearing Jason still talking Robbie pressed his ear against the door. ‘Love you too A. By the way baby that pic was smoking. No touching till I get there. If I have to follow the rules so do you.’ Robbie couldn't help smirking as he backtracked down the stairs and sat back against the sofa. ‘So?’ Realising Lindsay must be sorting tea, Robbie turned to his older brothers grinning mischievously. ‘I don't think our Jase is as innocent as he wants us to believe. Not when he's saying love you’s down the phone.’ ‘Thats a big step for the runt.’ ‘Who’s he talking to Rob?’ ‘No idea he called em A.’ Hearing Jason’s trainers on the stairs the brothers all turned back to the tv pretending they weren't listening and eavesdropping. Jason waited for his pic to send back before he grabbed what he needed from the little stash hidden in his underwear drawer. Thumping back down the stairs with a s**t-eating grin he walked straight into the kitchen. ‘Hey Linds I don't need a plate I'm off to help Holly with her English.’ ‘You sure you don't want one for when you get back?’ ‘I'm good’ Shaking her head Lindsay mimed zipping her mouth as Jason grabbed the back door key. Jason shot Lindsay a wink and tried to sneak past the living room. ‘Oi Jase where you going at this time?’ ‘Helping Hol with her English. Don't wait up.’ Running before Robbie could ask any more questions and slammed the door behind him. Grabbing his phone, he pressed on Holly’s contact and waited for her to pick up the phone. ‘Hey Hol if Rob or anyone asks, I'm helping you with your English homework.’ ‘Okay, you heading to see lover boy for some sexy time?’ ‘If you mean my boyfriend and to get that gorgeous body above me. Yeah, Hol. You've seen my guy he's all kinds of hot and he does this amazing thing with his mouth...’ ‘A little TMI on the phone Jase I'll cover for you but I want the juicy details tomorrow. Monday at the latest.’ ‘Deal, thanks Hol you really are the best.’ ‘You’re so lucky to have an amazing best friend like me.’ ‘Damn right’ Chuckling down the phone he hung up as he got to Aaron’s house. Robbie looked at his brothers as they heard Jason talking on the phone outside the front door. ‘We’re waiting up for him to get back, aren't we?’ The other three looked at Robbie all grinning. ‘Course we are.’ ‘Can't believe Jase managed to pull a bird and didn't tell anyone.’ Lindsay’s snort of laughter from the doorway made the four Roscoe’s turn as she took a long drag of her wine and moved to sit between Joe and Ziggy. ‘I can, you lot tease him something rotten, if it's a girl he's gone to see there's more chance he’d tell me or call Sandy than tell any of you lot.’ ‘Something you wanna tell us Linds? Has he mentioned a girl to you?’ ‘No, just not surprised he hides things with you lot calling him a runt and Sandy trying to keep her sweet innocent baby even if she's in Canada. Maybe he’s embarrassed or worried to bring someone round.’ But Lindsay knew something her husband and the rest of his family didn't. She’d caught Jason with Aaron and he’d been forced to confess to stop her from telling anyone else. But Jason’s little secret had made the bond the two shared even stronger. And technically she hadn't lied Jason hadn't mentioned any girls to her. Grabbing her phone from the coffee table she pressed on Jason’s name. ‘Remember to wear protection with lover boy Jase. X’ Laughing loudly when the middle finger emoji was sent back. Feeling her phone buzz as a second text came through. ‘Thanks Linds, next time stay out my room. Meet you after x’ Dropping her phone back into her lap she curled her feet under her body and leaned against Joe’s shoulder. Grinning smugly to himself as he clicked the key through the back door lock at midnight he stopped to grab two beers and and couldn't help but stop and stretch, feeling the pull of those scratch marks on his back. Walking into the living room Jason expected to see Lindsay’s dark shadow and a bottle of wine or another two beers, tapping quietly on the door frame so she would know he was home and they could gossip about his guy. Flicking the lamp on he didn't expect all four of his brothers to be there waiting too. Popping a top off one of the beers he took a swig, Lindsay's apologetic face told him that Aaron had left evidence on his neck and shoulders of their activities that night. ‘Damn Jase. You get attacked on your way home from Holly’s or maybe at Holly’s?’ ‘That's no attack Fred I’d say he was totally willing by the smug look on his face.’ ‘Linds’ ‘Jase, I didn't say a thing I promise.’ ‘I caught you on the phone earlier J, so who’s the lovely A you’ve been hiding from us.’ ‘Wait Linds you knew what was going on?’ ‘Yeah, I erm Jase a little help?’ Jason flushed a deep red as he and Lindsay burst into loud laughter. ‘Not a chance Linds I ain't saying nothing.’ ‘But...’ Ziggy’s voice interrupting the two as everyone turned to look at him. ‘So, hang on how long has Lindsay known about this secret girlfriend?’ Jason and Lindsay looking at one another shocked. ‘They don't know?!’ Both of them talking at once, voices overlapping. ‘I thought you’d told them Jase.’ ‘Of course, I didn't tell them, I thought this little mission meant you had.’ ‘Of course, I wouldn't do that, there's no way you've managed to hide it this long.’ ‘Clearly I have, otherwise Joe would be doing his angry gorilla impression and I’d be trying to claw Robbie’s eyes out.’ ‘HEY’ Ziggy finally spoke and ignored the other two brothers as he interrupted the pair. ‘I’m confused will someone please tell us what's going on?’ ‘Mr fake tan in the corner is right what the hells happened?’ Snorting at Freddie’s nickname for Ziggy who was pouting in the corner Jason’s phone blasting the Weeknd ‘I feel it coming.’ Ignoring Lindsay's knowing smirk with an eye roll, Jason turned to avoid all their looks he pressed accept and lifted his phone to his ear. ‘Hey you, I'm back safe. You cheeky little...make sure you eat something you’ll need your strength back. You were certainly worn out when I left. Hush you love it really, and who does that thing with my...Mmm I thought so. You’ve certainly staked your claim, Holly is gonna ask so many questions at school on Monday, yeah and you’re the one marked up like a b***h in heat? Didn't think so. Ice those wrists and make sure to use that cream I left on the table. Just do as your f*****g told for once. Gotta go, love you too. Sorry love you too baby, that better? Whatever. Do it yourself sometime soon. Bye.’ All five of the Roscoe’s grinning like the Chesire cat when he spun back around. ‘Well shit.’ ‘Forget it wasn't just us Jase?’ ‘Kinda yeah Linds it normally is.’ ‘Come on Jase. We've gotta meet whoever this is.’ Turning on his heel Jason realised when he heard Lindsay’s burst of loud laughter that he was wearing one of Aaron’s sleeveless shirts and he knew what his shoulders looked like. ‘Damn Jase. What have you been up to?’ Throwing his head into his hands he walked around all his brothers and dropped onto the arm of Lindsay’s chair, his head dropping against her shoulder. Petting his hair softly Lindsay couldn’t stop her light giggles. ‘Wow it was a good night then.’ ‘Mmm.’ ‘They know where you've been now.’ ‘They know I've been out didn't need to know anymore than that.’ ‘Right, you lot off you go Jase and I have gossip and beers to be having.’ ‘Why does Linds get all the gory details?’ ‘Cause Linds won't make fun of me!’ Sensing a fight could break out between the twins Joe heaved a sigh and stood up. ‘Leave these two to gossip Rob, not sure I need the details.’ Nodding Ziggy headed out after Joe. Robbie and Freddie silently following. Passing another bottle to Jason, Lindsay moved to sit on one end of the sofa. Jason curling up on the other end with their feet tangled together, a blanket pulled over them. ‘The boys were right about one thing; you look like you've been attacked.’ ‘You should see A; it was a cuffs kind of mood tonight.’ Oh my God Jase, that’s why you told him to ice his wrists. But the cuffs like the ones I bought as a joke or...’ Jason blushing pink the two couldn't help giggling. ‘Seriously though I thought they weren't used unless...’ ‘A rough night, both needed to not think so...’ ‘Let me see how bad your back is. You talked about it right, you know when you do a scene like that you need to talk about it.’ Pulling his shirt off Jason turned slightly so Linsday could see the damage. Bright red lines running from his shoulders all the way to the dimples on his lower back, nail crescents marking over both shoulders, Lindsay let out a low whistle. ‘Damn, well they don't need to be treated but they’ll sting for a few days and we’ll need to put some concealer on if you're going to keep hiding it.’ ‘Thanks Linds, and thanks for not telling them. We haven't talked about it yet but we will, we always do. Promise.’ Lowering her voice to a whisper. ‘You know they're outside the door listening right?’ ‘Course I do I'm the youngest I'm not Zig. I'll just have to tell them and hope that I can keep A away from all of them.’ ‘I can't believe it's me and Holly that know, you know Ziggy would tease but he’s your brother and Joe wouldn't judge just want to meet em.’ ‘It's Fred and Rob that take it too far and with everything else going on for him I don't want them to tease and it to be taken the wrong way.’ ‘He’s got three older sisters I'm sure he could take it.’ ‘Yeah, and all of them know cause they've caught us. But his parents are gone yet again and he ain’t handling it well.’ ‘Wine night and details?’ ‘Done. That can be tomorrow night when they’re all not here.’ ‘Now let's go to bed and you might wanna sleep on your stomach.’ Seeing Jason’s grin, she couldn't help playfully roll her eyes. ‘Or somewhere there isn't any marks.’ ‘Then I’ll be standing the whole night.’ ‘Jason Roscoe you naughty boy.’ ‘Thats what he said.’ Laughing quietly Jason took their beer bottles to the recycling as Lindsay ushered the rest of the Roscoe boys up the stairs. Seeing her getting a glass of water when he came back in. ‘All eavesdropping outside the door?’ ‘You know it, warning though Robbie looks like the cat who got the canary.’ Sighing the two headed back to bed, looking to see Robbie watching him from the top bunk Jason decided he probably knew too much anyway. Stripping his shirt and jeans off Jason heard Robbie’s chuckle. ‘Good night, Jase?’ ‘You could say that, Rob.’ ‘You know you can tell me anything right Jase.’ ‘Course Rob.’ ‘How long you been seeing this A?’ ‘It’s been a couple of months.’ ‘Jase, we thought it was days maybe a few weeks not months. Why didn't you tell us? Me? I’m your twin and anyway not like I’d rat you out if you didn’t want the others knowing. I could've covered you've done it enough times for me.’ ‘Cause I was scared Rob. I didn't want the looks, jokes or judgements.’ ‘About what Jase?’ ‘Nothing Rob go to bed.’ ‘Jase? Don't ignore me mate.’ ‘Robbie’ Throwing himself down on the bottom bunk Jason felt his phone buzz in his joggers. ‘Sweet dreams handsome thanks for tonight I really needed it. Love you. X’ ‘You too hot stuff, it was amazing. Love you too. X’ Tossing his phone on the floor and plugging it in Jason stubbornly ignoring Robbie as he turned over to lie on his stomach. Waking up the next morning Jason could feel the bruises and aches all through his body, groaning lightly he knew he’d have to get out of bed and put some cream on or get Linds to help. ‘Jase, Jase, Jason.’ ‘What?’ ‘Phone keeps buzzing will you sort it out.’ Picking up his phone Jason’s eyes widened at the list of missed calls and texts from one number. Jumping out of bed and pressing accept when another call came through. ‘Hey Jase.’ ‘Hey, what’s going on?’ ‘My parents found out last night…’ ‘s**t, how? Never mind how’d it go?’ ‘Well, they haven’t thrown me out, yet. But they’ve decided that they’ll be extending their trip by another few months and they don’t wanna talk for a little while, need to get their heads round it apparently.’ Stepping from his and Robbie’s room Jason bolted down the stairs and out the back door into the yard. ‘Baby…’ Hearing Aaron’s soft sob from the other end of the phone made Jason’s heart break. ‘Pack a bag and meet me in the folley in half an hour.’ ‘Where we going Jase?’ ‘You’re coming to stay here to clear your head.’ ‘But…’ ‘They saw the marks last night no point in hiding it anymore so get that bag packed.’ ‘Alright if, you’re sure.’ ‘Course I am you silly buggar.’ ‘I love you Jason Roscoe’ ‘I love you more Aaron Jones.’ Hanging up the phone Jason knew he needed to talk to one person, hoping she was in the kitchen Jason bolted back into the house. Seeing Joe, Ziggy and Robbie Jason took a breath. ‘Where’s Lindsay?’ ‘Getting ready, her and Mercedes are going shopping I think.’ ‘LINDS.’ ‘Jase? What’s going on mate?’ Ignoring Joe as Lindsay pounded down the stairs. ‘Jase?’ The watering of Jason’s eyes told Lindsay she needed to find out what the happy phone call she thought she’d heard as he walked past had turned into something really bad especially if Jason was crying. ‘Jase, look at me. What’s going on?’ ‘That was…Parents found out, really upset. Staying here a few days.’ ‘Oh Jason.’ Bringing him in for a hug, Lindsay shook her head gently at Joe when he shot her a look and tried to talk to Jason. Tilting his chin up Lindsay dried his tears. ‘I think I should call Freddie down and we’ll have a quick chat about all this before you go.’ Nodding Jason shuffled closer to his twin, needing Robbie to keep him grounded while Linsday went in search for the other Roscoe. Robbie’s hand on his shoulder kept Jason from breaking down in sobs as he dropped his head onto Robbie’s shoulder. ‘J?’ Seeing Freddie and Lindsay stood in the doorway Jason decided the best way to make his announcement was to rip off the band aid. Lifting his head up and moving slightly away from everyone he fiddled with his sleeves. ‘I’m gay. A, his name’s Aaron, we’ve been together four months and he’s coming to stay for a few days.’ Not daring to look at any of them his phone sang again as Aaron’s name danced across the screen. ‘Hey.’ ‘Hey, has something…?’ ‘I can’t stop shaking enough to do anything could you come here? Maybe bring a film and we’ll go back to yours later?’ ‘Course I can, I’ll grab your favourite I’ve got it hidden from Rob cause it’s his too. You get that fluffy blanket and we can talk. We need to talk about last night.’ ‘We always do but I really needed it. You are an amazing human Jason Roscoe.’ ‘So are you babe. I’ll be there as soon as okay and we’ll talk about meeting everyone later.’ ‘Everyone means…Did you tell them? All of them?’ ‘Yeah Ron, I did.’ ‘Wow Jase, we definitely need to talk about that too.’ ‘Remember we said one step at a time, go get comfy and I’ll be there soon.’ ‘Love you.’ ‘Love you more.’ Hanging up the phone Jason swiped a hand down his face. ‘Aaron needs me, I’ll text when we’re coming back and I’ll grab pizza or Chinese too.’ Pressing a kiss to Lindsay’s cheek Jason headed for his room, leaving silence in the kitchen. ‘Are one of you going to say something?’ Lindsay’s voice bringing the four from their trance. Joe smiling softly at his wife. ‘I’m glad he got the courage to tell us.’ The four turning to look at the eldest brother. ‘YOU KNEW?!’ ‘Course I did, practically raised you all, I helped raise the twins, plus he hides stuff I don't need to know in his underwear drawer.’ Lindsay burst into a fit of laughter loud enough that Jason appeared at the door again, keys spinning around in one hand. ‘We’ll talk about this later Jase, but thanks for telling us mate.’ ‘Yeah we wanna know who’s been keeping our little brother up at all hours.’ ‘Just play nice please he’s had a rough couple days.’ ‘I bet he has if he looks anything like you do.’ ‘Any pics Jase?’ ‘Not ones I'm showing you lot.’ Grinning he walked out the front door whistling smugly to himself. ‘That's why he ran off yesterday they were... Go on Jase.’ ‘Didn't think he had it in him.’ Lindsay's unladylike snort made the others look at her, shaking her head lightly. ‘You've only seen him last night. That was pretty tame.’ ‘Our Jase really is a dark horse isn't he.’ Freddie’s smug grin said he was gonna say something none of them wanted to know. ‘I wanna know what Joe found in his drawer.’ ‘Probably the same thing I did plus I caught them and I was begged to keep quiet so Joe isn't gonna tell any of you are you love?’ ‘Course not Linds but if Aaron’s coming to stay then we need to move Robbie into the spare. Wouldn't want to scar his innocent mind. And no one goes looking in that drawer it's Jason’s business Freddie.’ ‘I wouldn't...Alright fine I’ll stay out.’ ‘Shut up Joe, why can't Jase and lover boy move rooms?’ ‘Cause I know Jase won't be bothered if Lindsay and I hear things but he will if he stays in your room and Ziggy and Fred are next door. Plus single beds, the spares a double.’ ‘Joe darling, Jason’s innocence is long gone I wouldn't be too worried.’ ‘Linds? How long exactly have you known’ ‘I caught them two and a half months ago and I'm the one who he trusts to gossip with. I know everything those two get up to.’ Freddie and Robbie’s grins lighting up their faces, that was gonna cause some trouble. ‘How dirty we talking Linds?’ ‘I'm saying nothing if you happen to make your own judgements that I accidentally hear and can confirm then that's not my fault.’ ‘Think back to his phone convo yesterday.’ ‘Where the hell did Jase get handcuffs or ties? He isn't quite 18.’ Joe the one to work it out when he saw the slight pink of Lindsays face. ‘Seriously Linds?’ ‘It was a joke I didn't know he would actually use em.’ All five burst into laughter Lindsay knew Jason was in for some serious teasing when he got home. Jason knew that they’d all be grilling Lindsay and gossiping about his and Aaron’s s*x life but he couldn't find it in himself to care right now when his partner was so upset. Knocking gently on the door he saw his boyfriend wrapped in his favourite fluffy blanket with nothing but joggers slung low on his hips. ‘Hey hot stuff, one boyfriend and one fast and furious movie.’ ‘Hey Jase.’ Wrapping his arms around Aaron as the taller pressed a kiss to Jason’s neck. ‘The boys all know so prepare for the teasing though when Joe finds out about this whole car thing he's gonna have you working in the garage too.’ ‘Mmmm seeing you covered in grease and in just overalls really does it for me.’ ‘Maybe I'll have to help out too then.’ ‘Hang on Jase, your brothers own and run a garage and you don't help by getting all greased up?’ ‘I'm normally at college or coming to see you.’ ‘Right well I wanna see this garage.’ ‘Well I can imagine while I'm drinking with Linds tonight they’ll steal you for the scare you routine anyway. Look if they do I love you and Lindsay does too so it doesn't matter about those four.’ ‘Jase after everything we’ve done and shared you ain't gettin away from me. Not so easily anyway.’ ‘Right either we watch this film or I can cheer you up a different way.’ Pressing a deep kiss to Jason’s lips and trailing them down his neck Aaron dragged him to his room. Two hours later they were walking and laughing through the village, shoulders bumping as Jason took a breath once the Roscoe house came into sight. ‘Right let's hope it's just us and Linds for now and they're all busy. If not prepare for the teasing.’ Nodding the duo headed for the door, Jason opening the door and looping an arm loosely around Aaron’s waist. Other hand holding the requested Chinese. ‘Foods here.’ Robbie the first out the living room as Jason and Aaron moved around each other in the kitchen. ‘Enjoy the film J?’ ‘Yeah. Rob, this is Aaron. Meet the twin babe.’ Robbie couldn't help be shocked. Aaron was Latino around 6’2 and built with a head of short curls and light smile. Not at all what he’d expected. But Robbie knew his face somewhere. ‘You go to college with Jase right?’ ‘Yeah, that's how we met.’ ‘Lets leave that story there babe.’ Laughing loudly Aaron couldn't help reach out and smack Jason on the ass. ‘Oh yeah I remember now.’ ‘What are we missing?’ The other three brothers joined them in the kitchen as Jason turned from pink to to red. ‘Nothing important isn't that right Ron?’ ‘Awww you embarrassed to tell them Jay?’ ‘You are asking for it tonight.’ ‘Whats that baby? Was last night and this afternoon not enough?’ ‘I knew it didn't take two and a half hours to watch that film.’ ‘Shut up Rob’ ‘Awww he's just teasing Jase.’ ‘You really are asking for it, don't make me s***k you.’ ‘And then what? You gonna get the cuffs back out? Be in charge for a change?’ ‘You love it when I'm in charge, anyway it was my sister in law who got those cuffs you wanted to bad.’ ‘Mmm and who wanted the rope instead? Can you imagine explaining those bruises.’ ‘I really don't need this information.’ ‘Shut up Joe this is gold.’ Ignoring Joe’s protests and Robbie’s comment the other brothers shushed them. Robbie’s comment going ignored as Jason simply shook his head. ‘Sadist.’ ‘Masochist’ ‘Bite me’ ‘Maybe later.’ ‘Meet my other brothers babe, the one complaining is Joe, Freddie’s next to him and fake tan is Ziggy.’ ‘Nice to meet you guys.’ ‘You too though I don't need anymore information.’ ‘Will I make up for it if I tell you...’ ‘Not until we start eating otherwise we’ll never eat and you haven't eaten all day.’ ‘How do you...?’ ‘Linds food! Cause I know you and I know you worked up quite an appetite.’ ‘Mmm fine kiss first.’ Rolling his eyes Jason ignored his brothers and pressed a kiss to Aaron’s lips. ‘Hey Aaron.’ ‘Hey Linds’ ‘How's my favourite sisters?’ ‘Causing enough trouble without going back out with you and Cedes.’ Lindsay laughed as she pressed a kiss to the top of his head. Doing the same for Jason who slung an arm around the back of Aaron’s chair, scratching his nails at the base of Aaron’s hair. ‘So what you studying in college Aaron?’ ‘Mechanics, my brother in law works at a garage so I help out sometimes.’ ‘Jase got himself a grease monkey, well you sure can pick em.’ ‘Thanks Zig, Joe you can bug him about cars and motorbikes or whatever when we've eaten.’ ‘But Jase...’ ‘Ar. Do as your told you haven't eaten all day and you've been upset, there is plenty of time to talk shop.’ Huffing and pouting Aaron gave in. ‘Your mean.’ ‘You love it.’ ‘f**k you.’ ‘Not right now maybe you can later.’ Finishing their food everyone moved to flop onto the sofas, Aaron with Jason tucked under his arm as he talked shop.
