When I found out Tara was telling old stories I quickly sent her home. But it was already too late Claire knew all of my embarrassing stories. After she was done making fun of me, we talked about the baby some more and we picked out a nursery style, planned to make a formal announcement, and picked a date for a baby shower.
When the ultrasound appointment came to find out the baby's gender John, Tara, and I were all in the room. Tara won what she called ’the baby bet’ against John when we were told we were going to have a beautiful baby girl. I was thrilled and couldn’t wait to meet her
As the due date got closer Claire got more and more excited. When our baby finally got here we spent the first couple of months at home. Any business I had I took care of in my office at home. Then we made a formal introduction to the pack. We arranged a little party with food and finally I took the stage.
“Hello, everybody. Thank you for coming. As you all know. Claire and I had been expecting. Just three short months ago we had our baby. Now I would like to invite Claire up here to announce the name of our baby for all of you.”
Claire stepped up on stage holding our baby and took the mic. “Hello, I would like to formally introduce Rosalia Maelynn Ericson.”
Everyone clapped and a few people even brought some gifts. We had a good time. Our beautiful baby was passed around to all who wanted to see her. I couldn’t help but think how much she looked like my sister. I shook the thought away. I turned my attention to my beautiful family. Claire was just glowing, laughing with Tara.
When we got home Claire put Rosie down for a nap. We cuddled on the couch and began watching some tv. After a couple of minutes I heard a light snoring. I looked down at Claire and smiled. I couldn’t imagine a more perfect day. I woke Claire up and we headed to bed.
I heard Rosie crying in the middle of the night. I crawled groggily out of bed and lumbered to her room. When I walked in the room I found Claire rocking with Rosie.
“Are you guys okay,” I asked her.
“Yeah we’re all good.”
I leaned on the door and watched for a moment before going back to bed. After a while I felt Claire crawl into bed next to me. I cuddled her and we fell back asleep.
I woke up first and carefully slid out of bed and headed to the kitchen. I started to make coffee, sausage links, and waffles. I grabbed the tray out of the cupboard and began arranging the breakfast. I made a bottle and headed to our room. I gently woke up Claire and gave her the food before I left to feed Rosie. After her feeding I took Rosie out to the living room. After a while Claire came out to join us.
“Hey,” I greeted her.
“Hi,” Claire answered, looking sad.
“Are you nervous for your first day back?”
“Yes, I feel bad for leaving her but I also know that I have a job to do and other roles to fill.”
“She’ll be ok. Besides, Tara is very excited and she is looking forward to having the baby all day. John however is not excited. Tara has already started asking about adopting kids of their own,” I said with a smile.
“Awe, if they adopt kids that are our kids’ age they can be best friends.”
“That’s what Tara keeps telling John,” I said with a chuckle.
“Yay,” She said with a smile. “Ok. I’ll get Rosie dressed while you get ready and then we can head to Tara and John’s.”
“Sounds good.”
I got dressed, washed my face, and brushed my teeth and hair. I walked out to the entry room to find Claire strapping Rosie into the stroller. She looked up at me and smiled asking if I was ready.
“Of course.” I opened the door for Claire so she could push the stroller out.
We started walking to Tara”s. We got stopped a couple times by people who didn’t get to see Rosie the day before. As we walked up the path to her house Tara came rushing out.
“Finally my baby!’
“Your baby,” Claire asked with a smile.
“Yes,” Tara said defiantly. “My baby.”
“I don’t think so. I will definitely want MY baby back tonight after work,” I tell her, raising my brow.
“We’ll see,” Tara said walking back into the house with Rosie. “Bye see you later.”
I took Claire’s hand and we began to walk to work. Hopefully we can fall into a good rhythm.
