Chapter 9. Claire

1005 Words
With the two gone it was back to business as usual. Carter was off doing Alpha duties and I was taking a well earned break. I was laying out in the sun on a blanket when Tara called; I put it on speakerphone. “Hello.” “Hey, What are you up to,” she asked me. “Taking a day off. Why what’s up?” “I was wondering if you had done any wedding planning?” “Um no not yet we’ve been pretty preoccupied.” “Did you want some help?” “Yes, that would be wonderful,” I paused. “Would you like to be my maid of honor?” “Yes. Well since you're taking a day off do you want to go look at dresses?” “Sure.” “Ok, I’ll be there in two,” she said before hanging up. I grabbed my blanket and headed inside. I grabbed some flip flops and headed out to meet Tara. We drove to a nearby big city and headed to a cute boutique.Tara walked up to the counter and asked for Angel. “Angel is the best,” she told me. “Ok.” Suddenly a woman with long blonde hair and bright blue eyes walked out to us. “Hello, I’m Angel,” she said, her voice smooth like butter. She definitely looked like an Angel. “Hello,” Tara replied. “You know me, but this is Clairissa. She is the lovely bride to be.” “Nice to meet you,” I told Angel. “So what are you looking for?” “Um I’m not really sure.” “Well, how about we try on a few basic dresses with different silhouettes and we’ll move from there.” “Ok that sounds good.” I tried on a mermaid dress; that was an immediate no for me. Next, I tried on a ball gown style; I liked it but I didn’t love it. Finally, she had me try on an A-line dress, which I did love. So she brought out one with a lace skirt. One with a bejeweled top and some with different sleeve lengths. I ended up loving one that was strapless with some beading on the top edge and had a floral printed lace bottom. After I said yes to the dress it was Tara’s turn. For her we ended up with a short strapless fitted dress in turquoise. We decided on turquoise and navy blue for the wedding colors. We went for some lunch and then went to a florist who was more than happy to fill a wedding order. We decided on roses dyed navy, calla Lilies with blue centers and white outside, and baby’s breath of course. After the florists we headed home.Tara made me promise to do more planning in a week and I did. That night Carter and I set a date. It was in three months and we would get married at the pier. The next week we ordered the cake; it was to be a five tier cake. Using shades of blue and turquoise to mimic the ocean. Then we went to a nearby restaurant to place a catering order for the reception. The next week Carter and John went to get tuxedos. Carter got black pants and jacket, a white shirt, and a turquoise tie. John got turquoise pants, vest, and a tie with a white shirt. Two weeks later Tara and I went in for a dress fitting. While we were there I ordered a two tier wedding veil with floral lace at the ends and a pair of three inch heels with a jewel flower on the toes. Carter and I decided on Avery as the flower girl and Toby as our ring bearer. Avery was put in a turquoise dress with white shoes and Toby was in a navel blue suit with black shoes. The next few weeks leading up to the wedding we ordered table clothes, plates, silverware, glasses and napkins. The day before the wedding we picked up the dresses and tuxedos. Tara and John set up tables for the reception and benches for the ceremony. The day of the wedding a handful of omegas set up the tables and places. Tara surprised me with a stylist to do my makeup and hair. I stood in a pop up tent and waiting for my que to start my walk down the aisle when Tara popped in. She gave me a hug and put a pretty sapphire comb in my hair and left before I could thank her. A minute after she left I heard my que and began my walk down the aisle. When I got to the end Carter took my hand. We said our vows and kissed. When we went to walk down the aisle Carter noticed my comb. “Where did you get that comb,” he asked. “Tara came in and gave it to me and then left before I could say anything.” “It was my mother’s. She gave it to her when she and John got married.” “Oh… Why did she give it to me?” “I don’t know.” With that we headed to the reception. It was a blast and the cake looked fantastic. Finally I got a chance to talk to Tara. “Hey, why did you give me the comb and leave before I could say anything?” “Because I had to walk down the aisle my queue had already come up,” she said with a laugh. “Carter said it was his mother’s.” “It was. She gave it to me on my wedding day. Now I’m giving it back to the family. Besides, you might have a daughter who will need something old on her wedding day.” “Well thank you.” We cut the cake and danced a little bit before heading off on our honeymoon.
