Chapter 30

I processed the words the dwarf had just told me as my eyes and the guild master’s met for a moment. The guild master’s facial expression had changed his eyes bulged trying to comprehend the words. Even for a man he had met prior it seemed this behavior was unusual. “Did I hear you right? Did you say to kill all of the goblins?” I repeated. “Yes,” the dwarf said as he stroked his beard. I rested both of my hands firmly on the table. “I have no love for the goblins, believe me I think that they would betray us in the end.” “Good then this makes the decision all the more easily to kill all the buggers that might be prancing around out there.” “However, there are some issues with what you just said.” The dwarf stopped stroking his beard and looked me dead in my eye. Oh, how so?” “Let me ask you this question. What sort of person would you consider me if I killed the person guiding me?” The dwarf remained silent but kept his gaze. “Don’t Dwarves consider oaths and honor second to none?” “You have met my kind before?” the dwarf said his gaze falling to the guild master who remained quiet. I continued, “The goblins lead us here if it was not for them and not the guild master we would have never had found this place or we could still be lost. Second if we kill those goblins how would we find our way back out of here? Third even if we decided to do that option how would we kill all of them and be confirmed by you.” The room was silent now as the dwarf kept his stare locked before he started to chuckle. “I never thought the day would come a human would lecture me with talks about honour. I would admit that you do have a point but we need assurances that this base won’t be attacked.” “I can’t guarantee that, goblins are fickle,” I said, “If I told you otherwise it would be a lie.” “Then how are we to make a deal,” the dwarf said leaning further on the table his seat helping in making himself seem more intimidating than what he really was. “Caremila the lady you left outside.” “I don’t trust her, she has the stink of magic and her eyes don’t resonate well with me.” “Then why do you trust me or him,” I pointed towards the guild master. “I trust what I can tell about a person the guild master isn’t the most honest person. He would tell me so much as he needs to get by like from the fact that he’s been speechless I guess is in part to the girl waiting outside.” “Why do you say that?” I inquired. “Because you’re not that type of person, no you strike me as one who seeks out justice. A paladin maybe but I haven’t seen one of those in a human life time.” “How do you derive this?” “Wouldn’t you like to know but you may go and talk to her outside a guard will lead you out but the guild master remains here.” I nodded and got up and was led right back outside. Caremila was pacing to and fro in the area where we had left. “So? I thought you weren’t going to come back and where is the guild master?” she asked. “He is inside with the dwarf.” “You left him there,”Caremila said. “It was a condition of the dwarf. Listen I need to know everything you discussed with the goblins I need something to convince the dwarves that they can be kept in control.” “Control?” “Yes, it was either that or we would have had to kill them all.” “Kill them?” Caremila laughed. “After I put so much work into them. So he wants some assurance that this place won’t get attack?” I nodded. “That’s simple,” Caremila pointed towards me. “The goblins saw you fighting and many in the ranks saw the reliance on our own men in time. The goblins will fight against each other any attacks the dwarf do to them at any point of time would cause them to rally. You can even claim to be the next goblin King.” Carmila laughed. “No thanks,” I replied as I turned. “And thank you.” “Yeah whatever hurry up and come back this sun isn’t cold.” The dwarfs’ guards led me back inside. “Ah there you are. We were wondering what was taking you so long.” “We have words that you might find reasonable but before that I didn’t ask or did we exchange names.” The dwarf laughed. “No we didn’t we just went straight to business well that was because you had a mini raiding party of goblins outside my walls.” “My name is Seth and yours.” I raised my hand out. “The name is Dulmurum Longsword.” Longsword I repeated in my head. “And your clan?” “Ironhelm that’s another first for a human. Now then we shook hands but tell me what can work for us.” “The goblins that we helped do not have a strong loyalty for their leader. If we attack now it would cement that loyalty leaving them alone would allow it to fall apart on its own and cause even more infighting. Further because we played a heavy roll in their battles and my own personal combat it would allow this to happen. The guild master can confirm this he was there and saw everything.” The dwarf raised his hand. “I believe you.” “What no counter argument I got up unexpected to hear those words.” “Now then all that’s left to do is show you the stupor and the human city of Neforana we had got it from we can show you the way from here with a guide.” “Thank you.” “Now then we drink.” One drink lead to another and another by the time it was done the sky had shifted from day to night and on finding my bearings. The guide, myself and the guild master walked outside. We were greeted by a furious Caremila about to cast a fireball.
