Chapter 27

“Dwarves,” the words fell from my lips catching the attention of those around us. “You know them, Seth?” Caremila asked before shouting towards the guild master. “You wait till now to tell us this!?” “Halt!” I shouted towards my men. We came to a stop out in the open with no cover. The dwarves, from what I could see in the distance, had taken up a defensive position. If we didn’t defuse the tension, this could turn ugly. Dwarves possessed siege weapons and black powder, a deadly concoction that exploded upon impact. “Caremila and the guildmaster, we will go forward and talk to them.” My men stared at me in shock but before they could protest. “We can’t have too many people with us, especially goblins. It can’t turn into a b****y battle. It wouldn’t be right from someone that we require help from.” “Let’s go on horse.” I pointed towards two of my men. “Give up your horses I don’t want to make or give them any surprises.” The men complied without voicing a complaint. “You sure this is what you want to do, Reno? I mean Seth?” Caremila asked with hesitance overlooking the guild master. “Yes, I said this is what I want to do. This is for the best.” The guild master didn’t complain, and he got on the horse, his hands tied at the back and led by Caremila’s horse. It was a short silent ride across the marshy plain as we closed in. “I hope you have a plan, Seth.” It was just like before. Seth, help us, we need your help were the words spoken to me. From all the youths my age on this test that the village called the trials. We had been through having to survive of the land, collecting and identifying fruits and struggling against the elements. The only way to get through this was not by yourself, but together. If everyone worked together, we would get through. The greatest test of this battle was not the things that were outwards against us. It was ourselves and working together. Once that barrier had been conquered, we sailed through everything. I smiled towards Caremila. “I don’t but I know we will make it through this.” “That’s, far enough!” We came to a halt before the dwarves orders. Let’s see where we go from here.
