CHAPTER ONE JOURNEY TO A NEW LIFE Grace and Kourtney got home very tired and emotionally exhausted from the court which Robin had been sentenced to prison due to the testimony of Robin's daughter Kourtney, yet they need to leave the city as they still have a long journey ahead of them. They took a last glance round their rooms seperately , reminiscing on old memories but couldn't find a good memory to reminisce on… as their memories each brings back fear, terror, terrific feelings, flashes of slaps and knife been held close to the neck , bruises on the face and lips, stab injuries, hiding in the closet, sound of kicks on the door and eventually been brought down … they quickly picked the things they are sentimentally attached to, as Kourtney picked her teddy bear and a picture of Robin her dad and quickly hurried up to the car as Grace was already calling. The journey out of that house was a great idea, but to another city? New friends? New school and as well a new dad wasn't welcoming to Kourtney… as a result to the coldness towards her mother as they drove for so long in silence… Grace tried breaking the silence by bringing up small talks , but Kourtney didn't react nor respond to her talks and Grace said to her, she should be excited about having to meet new people, make new friends and especially having to meet her new dad.. Kourtney smiled and gave a silly remark.. of how no one especially new dad would be able to love her when her dad didn't love her and probably she being the reason her father didn't like Grace her mum either… and to crown it up, she had to testify against Robin her dad in court… tears rolled down her cheeks as she said those words and she expressed her feelings of not going to be able to love someone else outside her boyfriend Jake… Grace listened to her daughter with tears almost dripping down her eyes too… the car became quiet again, as they took the rest of their journey in extreme silence. Kourtney struggled with her cell phone to make calls with her best friend and also Jake, but network isn't responding she had to drop the phone with so much anger , taking her novel up to cover her face from watching her mother drive.. soon she dozed off , the book fell off from her hands as the pictures of her dad and that of Jake fell off the book… Grace looked at the pictures while she was still driving… and shook her head. They soon arrived at their destination , as Kourtney was awake now. On approaching the gate, Grace brought out a remote control to operate as Kourtney expected her to horn at the gate for the gate minders or security guards to open the gate , but seeing the gate responding to the remote control she opened her eyes wide and was wowed by so many servants all neatly dressed wearing a smile on their faces..to welcome them..she can't remember when last she had a genuine smile. They got out of the car , she watched her mother ran to hug a man in his fourties … "that must be her new dad she said to herself " , so she went behind the car to get their luggages out, but one of the men servants Peter, didn't allow her to get any of her bags out of the car trunk ; As she couldn't overpower Peter, she came out behind the car and saw her mother Grace and her new step dad standing before her and she greeted as Derek her step Father welcomed her , while he was still talking to her, Kourtney asked if she isn't worthy to go inside his mansion? Grace immediately stepped in saying come let me give you a tour round the house… as they moved forward into the house, Grace looked back to apologize to Derek for Kourtney's rudeness but she saw Derek giving her sign to take it easy on Kourtney… so she turned ahead leading Kourtney, and showing her around the mansion with her husband Derek following behind… they keep showing her different dimensions of the mansion, the swimming pool, the gym room, the car garage, the car Derek's son have which she'll be joining him to school with… she got irritated and asked if she could rest as obviously she is tired from her journey … Grace managed to take her to her room with a smile , on getting to Kourtney's room, Kourtney was amazed by ethe interiors in her room, all the little details she is attached to, like the wall painting of cars used for racing was hanging on the wall… the colors she loved…as she moves from wall to wall her mother said to her " I had always wished to give you all the good things of life money could buy, but thanks to second chances I get to see you this happy and Derek could give you those things I had wished to give you.. which I couldn't on my own" Kourtney's countenance changed at the mention of her new dad's name and Grace hugged Kourtney and saying these words into her ears " Derek is my husband get used to it"! Grace left Kourtney's room with a tap at the back of Kourtney… both fighting tears back.. not to drop…. As soon as Grace walked out the door.., Kourtney looked round the room and expressed her genuine likeness for the room and it's interior and had wished Derek was her biological father.. she sobbed a little bit and dived into the bed, spreading her hands and legs across the bed and later moved to her wardrobe, only to find premium wears with labels , she stood by the wardrobe and took a photo which she sent immediately to the internet and her best friend from the city they are coming from called her and talking about the photo she sent to the internet … both talking on the phone and laughing.
