Mikayla POV The word sliced through the heat like a knife. For a second, I didn’t know where it came from—only that it shattered everything. I froze, every nerve alight as Rafe’s lips lingered on mine. Heat raced through me, the world narrowing to his hands pressing me close to his body, which tensed at the sound of his name. From the corner of the corridor, Tash’s head peeked around his large frame. My stomach flipped—heat scorched my cheeks and shame dropped into my stomach like a bowling ball. Her eyes widened, locking on mine. Rafe shifted, pressing me tighter against the wall, his body a shield instinctively thrown between me and the world. But it was too late.
