Cassie Richard
I woke up from the noise and slowly opened my eyes out of pain. My hands and feet are both tied, which means that’s not a dream at all. I woke up to see where I was and, surprisingly, I was inside of the abandoned room where spiders and dust are clinging to the wall. I’m not afraid of spiders and rats because our home has a lot of them. What I’m afraid of is to be killed by those men and lose my opportunity to start a new life again.
“Nice. you are awake. I thought I needed to throw a bucket of water on you just to wake you up.”
“Who are you?” I asked while scanning the whole room and I saw nothing but emptiness.
“You already asked that question on the car two times. Why asking me again? Aren’t you tired?”
My eyes landed on the man and he’s wearing a blue tuxedo and glasses. He’s a middle aged man but still strong enough to do such a thing.
"If you want money, call Aiden. He will give you everything you want, even though it's a million."
"I know. We know."
"Then what are you waiting for? call him. I can't pay you on my own because I'm just a mere woman."
He stepped closer and grabbed my chin firmly, forcing me to look into his intense eyes. I could feel his breath on my face as he whispered, "Don't underestimate yourself, my dear. Your worth is far beyond any monetary value. Together, we'll find a way to navigate through this challenging situation. We won't rely on anyone else's generosity."
"What do you mean?"
"Aiden will do everything just to save you, and using you, I will achieve my biggest goal. Killing him will make me happy, and you're a great bait to make a lion come to my den and face his death. But don't worry, my dear, I won't harm a hair on your head. You are far too valuable to me for that." His words sent a chill down my spine, making my heart race with fear and uncertainty.
The intensity of his gaze seemed to deepen, as if he were trying to convey his determination through his eyes alone. I couldn't help but wonder what had brought me to this point, standing face to face with a man who saw me as nothing more than a means to an end. But in that moment, a flicker of defiance ignited within me.
"His family has done so many bad things to me, and your existence will make it happen. Now, why don't you become a good girl and make my dream a reality?" I stared back at him, refusing to let his words intimidate me any further. The fire in my eyes matched the flicker of defiance within me. I realized then that I had a choice to make: to succumb to his demands and become a pawn in his twisted game, or to stand my ground and fight for my own agency and freedom. With a newfound strength, I squared my shoulders and spoke with a resolute voice, "I will never be a tool for your revenge. I am my own person, and I will forge my own path, free from your manipulation."
"Who said you had a choice?" He sneered, his voice dripping with arrogance. "You underestimate my power and overestimate your own worth. You will soon learn that resistance is futile, and you will bow down to me like everyone else." But his words only fueled the fire within me, strengthening my resolve to defy him at every turn.
You're nothing but a worthless person. You wouldn't kidnap me if you could kill Aiden. Which means you're afraid of him, so instead you choose to kidnap an innocent and weak woman like me to use as your bait."
"Exactly!" he smirked at me. "You're an innocent and weak woman. You cannot defy me or escape from my den. You need your knight in shining armor to save you, and that's what you need to do now."
His desperation to use me as bait rose, and I knew my boldness wouldn't do anything even though I stood bravely in front of him, refusing to show any signs of fear. I realized that my only chance of survival was to outsmart him and find a way to escape on my own terms.
"Sir," a man says, entering the room.
"Yes?"
"He's here."
A scary grin appeared on his lips, and I know what that man was trying to imply. Aiden is here to save me.
"It looks like your knight in shining armor came right on time."
"Let me go!"
"Shh. I will. After this event."
He glanced at the man and said, "Take her. We need our bait to tame the lion."
"Yes,sir."
He heads out, and the man starts removing the rope from my feet before dragging me out of that filthy room. I keep shouting to them to let me go, but they seem trained to ignore every cry they receive from their hostage. I am the hostage, and being part of Aiden's dangerous life wasn't part of our deal. but I had no choice. As we walked towards the event, I couldn't help but wonder how I got myself into this mess. Aiden, my knight in shining armor, seemed to have a plan, but I couldn't shake off the feeling that things were about to get even more complicated.
Our eyes connected, and Aiden's eyes gave me hope that this danger would end at any moment, but the tension in the air made it clear that we were far from safety. I couldn't help but question whether Aiden's plan would truly be enough to get us out of this situation alive.
"Here's the money. Now, give her to me."
"Aiden. You're so impatient."
"Ten million. That's what you need, right? So, hand her over, and I will give you the money afterward."
"Sorry, but that's not how this works." I've known you for five years, and every time we've met, you've had someone watching your back, so I'm not fooled this time."
Aiden smirked before throwing the bag, then put his hands inside his pocket and said, "I didn't come here to play with you. So I'm giving you one last chance to hand her over, or else everything will get ugly."
"Not a problem," the man said, taking his gun before pulling me closer and putting the gun under my chin. "I will blow her brain out until you decide to hand yourself over."
"Don't listen to him, Aiden!" He drew the gun's mouth into my chin, causing me to gulp in fear.
Aiden was calm, and I can see from a distance that he's not showing any fear or hesitation. He looked directly into the man's eyes and said, "You can try to intimidate me all you want, but I won't let you harm her. We both know you're bluffing." or hesitation. He locked eyes with the man, his voice steady as he replied, "I won't let you harm her. We can find a way to resolve this peacefully."
"I am not."
"Then, I'm happy to end this party with blood shed."
