Queen Ariadne

1562 Words
Queen Ariadne wasn't always this way as history now painted her. She used to be beautiful, docile and humble. She has been around since the beginning of the universe; first as just a spark of light that overtime evolved into something much more. She was a supreme being, a goddess. Ariadne had been the dawn of civilization, of man and animals alike. Creation was her existence, and every planet had her mark. Kempt was a god and came into existence just as she did only he had been around a while longer. He took notice that his creations being the planets now were bustling with life extremely fascinated by the sight. It was only a matter of time before they ran into each other and they fell in love. In falling in love they chose to settle down with each other on a world that they created together down to every last detail, and the beings on it were like none other and a combination of the pair. This world became the celestial planet or to them Celestial Prime. In settling down, overtime they gave up their powers and chose to become more like the very beings they created now making them capable of fear, reckless thought, greed and jealousy. This all came into play once Kempt and Ariadne crowned themselves king and queen only to have children thereafter.      Ariadne became enamored and obsessed with raising her children and Kempt grew isolated feeling ignored. Her world no longer revolved around him and the distance between them grew. It was a millennia before the contempt for each other became obvious to their children and their subjects. However they still managed to rule by each others side for appearances sake. Kempt's attention eventually went to another, the offspring of a being that Ariadne herself created. It might have been some twisted attempt to be closer to her in some perverse way or that the being reminded him so much of who Ariadne used to be to him. He spent more and more time with this being and Ariadne began to notice, although she never found out who the being was. Knowing something was wrong she became paranoid, mean, and an all around manic depressive. Everything she did now was conspired to reveal what her king was doing behind her back. King Kempt noticed the changes in her and... well you know the rest.      When Queen Ariadne was dethroned she swore vengeance against her sons and to destroy everything that Kempt ever created. She had already lost her god-like powers in becoming a celestial and was left only her immortality in being buried on a frozen planet. She was hurt, felt abandoned and alone. How could her children, the ones she adored do this to her and for what a throne?! Now she only had time on her side, good thing she had plenty of experience with it for patience had become her virtue. So as she waited, she slept knowing her time would come again eventually and wouldn't you know it... it did.      The sons of the Kinship grew in the shadows of their self-righteous fathers who held a great disdain for the opposite s*x and even their mothers. Maybe mommy issues? The Kinship neglected their sons as they were only bred to one day succeed them on the throne but it would unfortunately be no time soon. The sons were given tutelage and raised in the ways of royalty aside from their distant fathers but not educated in patience. They grew weary of taking a throne that was taking too long in becoming their own so they conspired to take it. With each generation of celestial the powers became more and more faint especially with lack of use so the sons could not simply overthrow their fathers with the strength of their youth. They needed more. They grew up on bedtime stories of an ancient queen who held terrible power feeding on the souls of the innocent, mostly to terrify them into behaving but in every fable lies some sort of truth and they sought to find it. They had no idea that the stories were true let alone that it was in reference to their grandmother. Upon discovery of their intentions the Kinship took it as a slap in the face and a catastrophe they wanted to avoid so they cast their sons aside and banished them from the celestial planet, never to return or be heard from again.      When the sons of the Kinship were cast out they immediately went in search of the "Ancient One" having only whispers of rumors in throughout the galaxy to follow. The further they went in search the more sporadic the rumors had become until they met one celestial who abandoned the planet once Queen Ariadne had been sentenced. The planet was never the same after that and they saw no point in staying so they left and went into hiding on other worlds. Needless to say the sons of the Kinship tortured the being into giving up the location of the Ancient One and went to seek it out. Once they found the planet she was buried on, they had no way of digging her as she was hidden in its very core. They could not get through the frozen ground so instead they set themselves a temple in the center of the planet where they set up shop to to create a channel in which to absorb its power. They remembered the tale of their youth in souls being its source of energy so they visited one planet after another destroying everything in their path. As time went on they expanded operations, enlisted and conjured the aid of shades and demons with the promise of immortality or ascension in order to do the dirty work for them as they fed off of the Ancient One. All the while Queen Ariadne was aware of everything, however still frozen and encased in her tomb.     Now that she was awake her first thought was to feed but she also felt when her grandchildren were felled and she wanted to know who had done it. They were her grandchildren after all and she never had the chance to meet them and destroy them herself for using her.  (Queen Ariadne) I wonder if those grandchildren of mine even knew what they were doing seeking me out or even who I was to them, feeding me souls then stealing my power? Those greedy minions never left me enough to free myself! Although I must thank them for what they have accomplished, now everything comes directly to me. No middle man anymore. Unfiltered power! I do wonder what is this new power that I sense? It feels the same as mine yet different, evolved maybe? I cannot risk discovery until I am strong enough for whatever that thing is!     Ariadne had not yet realized that this new power she sensed was the same one that slayed her grandchildren. She did not know if it was friend or foe. All she knew was that she was excruciatingly hungry and she had an appetite to quench before she could seek revenge on her sons. However it did not take her long to realize that she could not access certain planets in her weakened state, they had to have been warned of her presence and now possessed the capability of fending her off. If her presence was known then she had to move fast and change tactics. She couldn't crash land as she did prior and simply take what she wanted anymore. This new power was somehow tracking her and she knew it, maybe it felt the same connection she did and was using it to their advantage. She would not be able to gain more insight until she grew stronger.     While Delilah and Finnessia returned to the celestial planet, Queen Ariadne's reach had stretched in another sector that they had not yet protected. She was getting strategic in how she gained her strength back. She visited worlds that her grandchildren had already inhabited. It was easy for her to set up shop and wreak havoc as she absorbed everything and left nothing but fire and rubble in her wake. All of these planets had been of her late husband's creation and she was more than glad to be the one destroying them. He broke her heart and there is no sweeter revenge than that of a woman scorned. She would save the "best" for last, that of which being the celestial planet her former home. It would be the most protected and she would need everything she had to conquer it, especially from her sons.  (Queen Ariadne) Those ungrateful sons of mine cast me out into the voids of the universe. Never once did they visit me and I gave them everything! We could have ruled the cosmos together, my sons and I! I know the truth, they only wanted the throne for themselves. One misstep and they took it as their opportunity to seize it, it was a rather large misstep but they still took it too far! I will get my revenge they will not be able to contain me again, there's nothing they can do to stop it! The time of reckoning is here!
