As the monster died an earth shattering booming roar came over the planet. Delilah looked up at the stars unable to pinpoint where the sound came from. When the roar calmed there was a deafening silence that came after. It made the scales on Delilah's neck stand up. Out of nowhere the Jinn reappeared as Delilah body returned to normal.
(Lazarus) You are quite formidable aren't you?! I will be sure to never be on your bad side.
(Delilah) You ran from the fight, you coward! What kind of demon Jinn are you?!
(Lazarus) One that knows how to pick and choose its battles! Besides I am not that kind of demon. I haunt and terrify. I kill only when threatened.
(Delilah) As strategic as you are, it wouldn't surprise me to know that your "masters" did not know this now did they?
(Lazarus) No. I was originally conjured by mistake. They intended to bring forth the demon called "The Harbinger of Death". I outwitted him into taking his place when I "knew" the cast was coming. I wanted out of the demon realm and I chose to live so they believed what they wanted to once I emerged.
(Delilah) I bet you made them regret that decision ever since.
(Lazarus) For all intensive purposes, dealing with "any" demon is always a gamble. We are all hard to control.
(Delilah) Was it only me or did you hear that roar too?
(Lazarus) Oh yes I heard it. I think the entire universe did, as to why I am here. I figured I better give my thanks and be on my way. Something terrible is coming.
(Delilah) I know. I can feel it... Can't you "see" what's coming?
(Lazarus) This is beyond even me. I wish I could but I am sorry that I am unable to help you... Until we meet again Delilah, I must bid you adieu.
(Delilah) Will we ever meet again?
Lazarus disappeared with the knowledge that he would never see Delilah again. His intuitive powers were limited and for what was coming he could "see" nothing and that terrified him. It was either too far beyond his grasp or there was truly "nothing" to see. Delilah however had indeed kept her promise and now he was free. He would not go back to the demon realm and he intended to get as far away from the upcoming c*****e as possible. After all, he was all about self-preservation.
Even though she was exhausted Delilah safely transported Lovell back to the compound to be nursed back to health as he was already beginning to self heal from his wounds. It was better that he was still unconscious because the pain his body was going through would have been unbearable for him to deal with if he was awake. The house staff tended to him night and day with Delilah never leaving his side. It took days before he managed to open his eyes, but at least she was the first face that he saw.
(Lovell) What happened? My head hurts terribly.
(Delilah) Please rest my love, you have been through quite an ordeal.
(Lovell) The monster! Is it dead?!
(Delilah) Yes, it is gone. We are all safe.
(Lovell) How did you manage to defeat it?
(Delilah) You assume it was I alone who did it?
(Lovell) Of course, no one else is capable. I know you if anyone would figure out a way.
(Delilah) You have that much faith in me huh?
(Lovell) Most definitely.
(Delilah) I cannot explain it really, but while you were unconscious I think you somehow transferred power to me. I was able to absorb it and I transformed into a sort of dragon that was just as large in size as the monster.
(Lovell) Wait.. you transformed into what?
(Delilah) A dragon I think! I was in complete control.
(Lovell) I wish I could have seen it. That kind of magic has been lost to the ages. You really are something out of this world, Delilah.
(Delilah) I do not even think I have reached the height of my powers just yet, either.
(Lovell) Hold on... didn't you also say that "I" transferred power to you?
(Delilah) Even as you laid unconscious I believe you knew I needed help.
(Lovell) That's impossible. I do not know that kind of magic. What happened during the transfer?
Delilah hesitated for a moment. She did not know if she should tell him the rest as she had conveniently left that part out. As much as she wanted to believe that it was he who did the transfer, a part of her deep down knew that that could not be true. If it wasn't true then she would have to come to terms with the fact that she almost killed him. She knew that she also could never lie to him either, she didn't have a good enough poker face. Lovell could read her emotions like a book.
(Delilah) Well... during the transfer it kind of drained you. It appeared as if you were dying. I'm sorry, if it wasn't you then it had to have been me. I have never done that before. I pulled away as soon as I saw what was happening.
(Lovell) Do you mean to say that you almost killed me? It seems that your powers are ever changing and growing...
Lovell wrestled with the thought a little bit before he spoke again. He decided to dismiss his emotions on the subject as he knew Delilah would never intentionally harm him, but he did realize that her powers can be dangerous if she did not learn to control it.
(Delilah) I am so sorry! I would never hurt you! You know that right?
(Lovell) Yes, I know. I also know that you need to learn how to control your powers. Others will not be as understanding as I am. Maybe you should spend some time in the chamber of chronicles. It may be a great resource for you.
(Delilah) Are you sending me away? Are you scared of me, Lovell?
(Lovell) No, never! We must however think of the people, they are our responsibility now. Recent events will definitely raise questions and concerns, we must handle this accordingly.
(Delilah) Always the ambassador, huh? It seems you were born to be a leader.
(Lovell) Someone has to do it.
Over the next couple of months the relationship between Delilah and Lovell had become a bit strained and distant. Lovell took to matters of state and Delilah took to developing and controlling her powers. Lovell would never admit that he was encumbered with Delilah's gifts especially now that they could have cost him his life and although he was not scared of her he was scared of her power. It was causing him to pull away and throw himself into his work as a distraction. Delilah knew him all to well and decided to give him as much space as he needed. Eventually they would have to work things out right?
Lovell managed to get things back on one accord with the help of his advisors and representatives of the provinces that he himself selected and ensured this time to do a thorough background check on each of them. The new representatives backed Lovell whole heartedly and as ambassadors of the people chose to do away with electing another governors council. This time they opted for Lovell to become the sovereign ruler of the planet with a board of ambassadors that remained connected with him as representatives of the people.
The once governors compound was demolished and in its stead a new capitol building that sat on the border of Amaris and Edom. With the new title, position, and responsibilities Lovell now spent all of his time there causing an even greater divide between him and Delilah. Delilah took this as a sign as the beginning of the end between them and retreated even further into her studies. All of the house staff except for the Faylinn aids left the compound and went to work for Lovell in his new residence. She would leave him to his own devices as she knew how important the people were to him and everyone else seems to have all but moved on from her. Time has a funny way of changing one's perspective on things, what was once the center of your universe can slowly become something else.
Once matters of state had calmed down for Lovell, Delilah's absence became more and more apparent and he acknowledged the fact that he missed her despite his fear of her powers. He sent members of his house staff to check on her and report back to him all that she was doing. He even called on her from time to time trying to reconnect only to find that she wasn't excepting his attempts. The house staff would apologetically send him away when he tried to visit her. He knew he had hurt her feelings and did not know a way back to her heart but he knew his heart would always be hers.
One day he had had just about enough of waiting for things to get better when he knew it would not if he did not do something fast. He figured he would call on her again and this time would not go away without seeing her as he had done so many times before. When the house staff again attempted to send him away he barged into estate not taking no for an answer. He charged all the way through the compound until he found where she was and banged on the door.
(Lovell) Delilah, come out now! I am not leaving until I speak with you!
(Delilah) How dare you barge in here like you own the place? We have nothing to talk about.
(Lovell) Open the door please, I do not wish to make a scene!
(Delilah) It's too late for that, mission accomplished. I don't want to see you.
(Lovell) I am sorry! I know that I hurt you. I never meant for things to play out the way that they have. It was immature and childish. I can admit that I have been an i***t.
(Delilah) You said you were not scared of me and then left without a word!
(Lovell) I know, I know... I was never scared of you but your powers. When you told me I almost died, it terrified me. I did not know how to deal with it.
Delilah opened the door and saw how sincere Lovell was in his apology. She immediately forgave him but understood in her heart that with what she knew to be true, that there may not be a future for them. Her powers were growing and maturing her as a person and he was becoming a great leader on their world that could not chose her over the people anymore. They were to be his top priority and she would only get in the way as long as they were together. She took note that every time they were apart things were peaceful, but every time they were together all hell broke lose. It seemed like the universe didn't want them to be together and now she had to be the bigger person and let him go no matter how much it would hurt.
(Delilah) I forgive you truly I do. I could never stay mad at you.
(Lovell) So where do we go from here?
(Delilah) "We" will not be going anywhere. I am going to stay here and you will go back to the capitol where you belong.
(Lovell) What do you mean? We can work on this, we can work things out. I know you still love me.
(Delilah) That will always be true but there is something terrible coming and "I" alone can feel it. If we stay together you will always be in danger. You have this entire world to protect now. I can no longer blindly put you in danger.
(Lovell) What are you saying? Are you breaking up with me?
(Delilah) I have had a lot of time to think and I think it is time that we both face the truth.
(Lovell) I do not want to do this without you by my side, we can face whatever is coming together as we have done before!
(Delilah) As much as I want to, I cannot allow it. What is coming is different, its more powerful than anything we have ever faced. We have to say goodbye.
(Lovell) I do not want to! I will give it all up! I never wanted to be a ruler, this world can get along fine without me.
(Delilah) You see? I could never make you choose between me and the people. That would be so selfish of me. How can I rob them of a leader, maybe the greatest leader this world has ever had?
(Lovell) Do I not get a say in this?!
(Delilah) No, the decision is made.
(Lovell) But what about the threat?! You plan to take it on by yourself?!
(Delilah) That is for me to worry about, you go and be a leader of the people.
(Lovell) If this threat is as big as you say, surely you will need my help. Our world is in danger again.
(Delilah) No, it will not be. This world has seen enough violence. No more shall it be so...
(Lovell) What are you saying? Are you leaving?
(Delilah) Its over between us, goodbye Lovell.
Before Lovell had a chance to utter another word, he was standing outside compound. Delilah's magic had indeed become more powerful and deep down he knew she was right. He had become a man of the people and he had to put them first. As much as he pained him, he entered his limo and was driven away.
Delilah cried that night until her eyes were puffy and swollen. She kept a good game face in front of Lovell but when he left she couldn't hold it in any longer. Lovell was her "great love", how would she love again after this? Could she be able to love again? Delilah buried those emotions deep down inside and locked it away as she finally fell asleep. She had no time for love anymore, love made her weak and right now she had to get stronger.
