Aurora's mother was standing in the front room looking out of the blinds. "That Charles is far too young for Annie's mother. What was Sherri thinking about being with a young man like that?”
Aurora's mother loved to gossip. Sharing information whether it was heard or seen, she would never gossip with people outside her home, but behind closed doors she was a motor mouth of information. She knew everything about everyone in town, about, even all the bad things about her friends that Aurora was sure they would rather have kept to themselves, and was still somewhat friends with all of them. She knew every secret and didn't hold back from sharing with Aurora.
Aurora's mom was all about living vicariously through others' lives. It didn't help that she didn't have much of one for herself. Ever since Aurora's father came back, he has been a shut-in and hardly speaks to anyone if he doesn't have to.
“He’s not that young mom,” Aurora said, rolling her eyes.
“Oh, please, honey, he’s old enough to be your mate, or Annie's. Seriously, what was she thinking?” Aurora's mom said, giggling. “Well, I know what she was thinking. She didn’t need to marry him for that.”
“Oh, come on, mom!” Aurora said, pushing the thought of Annie's mom and Charles together out of her mind. Gesturing to the couch, hoping they could change the subject. Aurora's mom came and sat with her. “So, honey, how was your day yesterday? Did you have a good night at Annie's? What did you have for dinner? Another fancy meal, cooked by one of those damn chefs that they keep hiring?” Aurora's mother hated how much Annie’s mom flashed her money. It was always the one thing that would upset her when they had a big family get-together.
“Always with the questions... It was fine, mom, we had a good time. How was your night with dad? Did you guys do anything special?” Aurora asked, already knowing the answer.
“Oh, no, honey, nothing special. We ordered some takeout and ate separately. Your father worked in the garage. And I watched some of my shows. Anyway, so Annie's party's coming up. Are you excited about the big day?” Aurora's mom was quick to change the subject. Any topic that revolved around Aurora's father or their marriage was always changed.
“Well you know, Annie, everything's going to be perfect, and oh also, she has decided she's not going to college, and will be going to work with her mom, so she can find her mate and have cubs,” Aurora said with a tone. Aurora's mother knew how she felt about the idea of finding a man, and having cubs with them. Aurora's mom didn't quite agree with Aurora, but still thought that her daughter had a good head on her shoulders, wanting to further her education.
Still, she wished that Aurora had been more like Annie was, eager to extend their family line. “I'm glad that girl has finally made a decision, and you can both can now stop arguing about it.” Aurora's mom got up and walked towards the television as soon as her watch beeped. “Okay, sweetheart, it's about time for my shows to start. Do you need anything else?” Aurora's mom said, turning on the television.
“No, mom, I'm going to head upstairs and finish some notes for a history paper. I've got to send them over to Annie so she can do her part, and we can finally be done and ready for finals.”
“Uh, yeah, sure, honey, okay, let me know if you need anything.” Aurora's mom had a better relationship with the TV than with her husband, and anytime Aurora had brought up school or schoolwork, her mom's eyes would glaze over.
Aurora went up to her room, threw her bag on the floor and laid down on her bed. Staring at the ceiling, she started to think about all that was going to happen. When she too was also to finally turn nineteen and get her wolf spirit. Would she throw away everything for some guy and babies or would she still be passionate about becoming a teacher? Why not do both? The subject was constantly on Aurora's mind. The idea of getting your wolf spirit was stressful. She was not like Annie. The idea of romance and falling in love was never a part of Aurora's plan.
Getting up, Aurora turned on her computer and got down to work. Homework was always her favorite way to distract her mind from the chaotic thoughts that consumed it. After a few hours had gone by, Aurora had finished her notes and sent everything over to Annie via email so that way they could finish their history paper and focus on Annie's party and finals. So much was about to happen in such a short time.
Checking her emails, Aurora noticed a message from a 'C.C.' Not recognizing the name, she glanced at the subject line that read "Miss Teacher". With her interest peaked, she clicked on the email. It was from Charles... it had a brochure for teaching tips and tricks linked to it. Aurora immediately felt her body temperature rise. The idea that Charles thought of her enough to go out of his way to email her as soon as he got to the office made her blush, both internally and externally. Throwing herself back, her body bounced on top of her mattress. Aurora started to think about how Charles opened the door for her that morning, his face grazing across hers. How it made her body and mind light up and freeze all at once. Her thoughts had made her mind heavy. Slowly drifting, Aurora found herself asleep. Deep in her dream, Aurora could see Charles his face so bright and handsome he had a smile as he was calling over to Aurora. Unable to yell back, she tried her best to run towards him, but every step got harder and harder for her to take. Charles had disappeared in front of her and then reappeared behind her. This time only he looked different. His face was dark, and his smile was now a smirk. Grabbing Aurora, he pulled her lips to his, consuming her. Kissing him back, Aurora could feel herself meld into him, becoming one with his being. Terrified, Aurora jumped awake from her sleep drenched in sweat. She didn't know what in her dream scared her most. Charles? The kiss they shared? Or how insanely real that felt. Touching her lips she could still feel where Charles' lips had been.
