Chapter 3

My mate bond was here and my mate knew nothing about it. What luck I had! It’d been so obvious that he was completely oblivious to that fact that night, but it’d been a week already. How long did he need to take to figure it out? ‘Was it different for Kings?’ I asked myself. All my life I’d heard about situations like this, one mate finding out before the other. But it’s only been stories, it’d never really happened to anyone I knew and now it was happening to me. I’d been patient enough, I wasn’t going to sit back and wait for the blockhead to miraculously find out, I needed to go to him. Put myself in front of him. I had changed since that night. Maybe it was the bond. I didn’t know, but I no longer despised him. I dreamt of him, I fantasized about our kids as cringe as that sounded. I spent all day by my window hoping to see him again, to feel that strong tug once more, but all was for naught. Not anymore though, I was taking matters into my own hands tonight. I got dressed into the most revealing nightdress I owned here which graciously accentuated all my curves. The man who could resist this couldn’t have been born yet. I put on a robe to cover and headed out. I snuck into the kitchens as stealthily as possible and grabbed a platter and a cloche like the last time. I was going to his bedroom as a maid like the last time also tonight. As I passed by Martha’s room, I caught the sound of muffled sobs. I opened the door slightly and popped my head in. “Are you o…?” I started, startling her enough to drop the item in her hands unto the floor. It was a pregnancy test strip. “Go away!” She shouted immediately as she tried to pick it up and hide it. “I’m… I’m sorry.” I stuttered in shock as I hurriedly shut the door. The maids here weren’t allowed to have babies or they’d be dismissed. I could only imagine how horribly she must be feeling. I wondered who the father could be, she was always so centered around work… I had other worries I needed to focus on, like getting past the guards in the King’s wing. Tonight wasn’t a bustling night, as the last time I’d been there, it could be difficult. I maintained a neutral expression and looked forward as I passed through the multiple guards. I reached his room and turned the knob. Crap! It was locked, I tried again. Suddenly, a loud voice stopped me in my tracks. “Why’re you here?” James appeared out of nowhere and beads of sweat formed on my neck. “The King called for me tonight.” “I was not informed about this.” “Do you expect the King to tell you everything, even about his… s*x life?” “Of course not, but at least…” “Do you have any idea what’s underneath this robe, James?” I asked slowly, edging towards him. “N… no” He lied, the knowing look in my eyes said it all to him. “And do you want to stand in the way of the King getting to see it as he ordered tonight?” “N… no, but…” “Open the door, James,” I interrupted in a stern tone. He looked into my eyes, accessing, for a moment, I did not break the eye contact. He turned to unlock the door and let me in. “Thank you” *** King Raphael’s POV “Go ahead and begin the preparations for the feast.” I ordered my Beta. “It isn’t until 2 months from now, sir.” James objected. “Start the preparations,” I ordered. It was final. He bowed and immediately rushed out to obey. I looked around my observatory, the room was glorious, it was by far the most brilliant room on the entire estate, my absolute favourite, and I had spared no cost on it. Today, I had some outstanding engineers install some equipment here. My weekends were for the observatory and I had predicted a special collision tonight. “It’s a magnificent room…” I heard the voice of my cousin, William, from behind me. “For a magnificent King.” “You’re not allowed here. How did that so carelessly slip your mind?” “Oh well, I’m not allowed in a lot of places, am I? If you had your way, I'd be rotting in that dungeon of a wing for the rest of my life.” “Well, maybe a real dungeon will be perfect!” I yelled, spinning around to face him and attracting the attention of all the workers in the room. William had always had that effect on me. There was not a single person in the entire kingdom who could ruin my mood like William. “Don’t get so worked up now, my king. Your people are watching.” He sneered. I ignored him. “How about your new conquest?” He started and I clenched my fist. “That’s an attractive one, I’ll give it to you and it looks like she’s getting really comfortable already.” “Shut up, William.” I gritted my teeth. “Oh, you know I’m only trying to protect you. Imagine what happened years ago repeating itself.” “You would love that, wouldn’t you?” I said huskily as I grew more impatient by the minute. “I did it to protect both of you, Raphael. You know tha…” “Say what you want, but I know you. You don’t care about me, you don’t give a f**k about family. There’s only one thing you care about... the throne. It’s all you’ve ever wanted.” “You’re one to talk about family,” William said with his signature smirk. “When it was your father who wiped out mine.” I could see the anger flaming in his eyes. “And I bet you would wipe me out the same in a heartbeat if you could, wouldn’t y…?” “IN A HEARTBEAT!!” He sprang up to my face, his breathing irregular. I didn’t even blink. I pushed him away and walked out. It was already 8. I needed to get ready for my night here, I had no time for another bicker with him. But he knew if he laid a hand on Elena, he would have his head on a spike. Suddenly, my mind went back to the night she had appeared in my bedroom. I chuckled. Elena was clumsy… and crazily attractive. I’d find myself picturing her with that bright smile I hardly ever saw. I’d often also picture what she had beneath those long dresses she always wore. I wanted to find out but I couldn’t. The other night when I looked into her eyes, I felt something. I didn’t really understand it, but it reminded me of Thelma, it made unfathomable guilt tug at my chest. This was the kind of negative effect she had on me. Nothing about this was good anyway. I couldn’t risk it. If she had enough influence over me to make me picture her like that, who was to say that I was above falling in love with her? Who was to say that I hadn’t already? I reached my bedroom and opened the door with a long sigh. “My King…”, I heard a sultry voice coming from the shadows. The room was pitch black, suddenly the lights came on and Elena stood in the center with nothing but the lightest and shortest night dress I’d ever imagined to exist. My mouth went dry as my eyes met her n*****s pointing out through the fabric, struggling to be set free, her rounded breasts highlighted by the peach dress. I didn’t take a step closer, I couldn’t but she did, loosening a string that kept the dress in place with every step until it had completely fallen to the ground and she stood before me, stark naked, her beautiful curves open for my eyes to feast on. She looked at me helplessly, oh she knew this game well, the little demon. My breath grew ragged as my heart throbbed hard against my chest, but it wasn’t the only thing doing the throbbing. Her eyes timidly travelled down there and that was it! “f**k!” I grunted as I shut the door. There wasn’t going to be any stargazing tonight.
