34. Itchy

Third person POV

A few rogues in human form joined and as soon as they got close to the betta and luna they plunged silver knives into their hearts. Silver was dangerous for werewolves and deadly if it reached their heart.

At that moment Rob and Ben arrived with their warriors and killed the rogues without much effort. Ben and Rob kneeled down next to Daniel and Caroline.

“Hang on guys, we will get you to the hospital” Ben said and took Daniel in his arms, Rob took Caroline and they both ran as fast as their feet could carry them. Gabriella felt the pain of the stab and roared ferociously and ran towards the woods.

“Danny and Cary are badly injured, I think silver. We are heading towards the hospital” Ben mindlinked Gabriella and she immediately changed her direction. She arrived at the hospital the same time Ben and Rob did and the sight in front of her broke her heart. 

She could feel her mate’s fading heartbeat and the breaking of their bond. Calypso was howling in her head pushing to the front wanting to go closer to Danny. Gabriella couldn’t hold her sobs as she was pushed back when the doctors took Caroline and her mate to surgery. 

An hour passed and Gabriella was still sobbing in Ben’s arms. Aurora and Malakai joined them as well.

“I am losing him, I can feel it. He is dying. Please Goddess, NO, don’t take him away from me” she repeated over and over again. The gammas were just sitting there in silence. 

A roar shook the building.

“WHERE IS MY MATE?” Nathaniel yelled and everyone bared their necks in submission. 

“Nate” Gabriella sobbed. “They are dying, I can feel Daniel trying to hang on but I am losing him” Gabriella cried out and ran towards the alpha and hugged him. Nate circled his arms around Gabriella and asked the gammas what happened. 

They gave him a detailed explanation. Nathaniel roared again and punched the wall leaving a huge hole.

“NO! I CAN’T LOSE MY LUNA!” he kept roaring and growling.

Suddenly Gabriella yelled and fell to the floor holding her heart. She kept screaming and squirming in pain. A doctor came out of one of the surgery rooms covered in blood and a sad face.

“I am so sorry, Alpha. Your brother is dead. The wound was too close to the heart and the silver was too potent.” he said

Nathaniel fell to the floor sobbing, his face in his hands. Aurora felt her wrist itch, she started scratching but got itchier. She looked at it and saw the tattoo with the text “thirty” glow. It was the tattoo that was counting down Selene’s deaths and then counted every full moon since she was in Aurora’s body. The number stopped changing when Selene left but the tattoo stayed.

Aurora felt drawn to the surgery room and she couldn’t stop her feet. She entered the room, Malakai called her name but she couldn’t respond so he followed her. Daniel’s lifeless body was on the hospital bed, the heart monitor was still beeping the endless sound confirming Daniel’s death.

Aurora walked toward his body and held her hands on the sides of the betta’s head. She felt warmth flowing in her veins traveling to her fingertips and entering Daniel’s body. Her hands started to glow and she started humming a hypnotizing melody. Malakai was silently watching the scene until he noticed the betta’s wounds started to close.

His skin became rosy and the heart monitor’s continuous beep broke into short steady beeps. Daniel opened his eyes with confusion but before he could ask what was happening he heard his mate’s cries and screams. 

He stood up and ran in the hall. He saw his mate on the floor curled up in pain and his brother sobbing next to her. He rushed to his mate and took her in his arms and started rubbing her back trying to soothe her. She buried her face in his neck and started to relax slowly. Ben and Rob were looking with big eyes, and Nathaniel looked up when he noticed that Gabriella’s screams stopped.

“Calm down, my love, please.” Daniel cooed but Gabriella seemed unresponsive. “What happened?” he asked the others

“You… died” Rob shuttered. 

“I am here, babe. Please look at me. I promised you I will come back to you. I am here, Gabby” he tried to get her attention. “Can you feel my touch?” he whispered and carressed the naked skin on her arm.

Gabriella slowly lifted her head, her eyes were red from crying, her face swollen but she was still the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Her glossy eyes looked at Daniel’s face and her tears started flowing again. 

“How?” was all she managed to say

“I think Aurora resurrected me. Now please stop crying. I am here and never leaving you again” he said softly to her, wiping her tears away and kissing her face all over. 

Aurora felt the itch again and this time she knew what to do. She entered the room where Caroline was and pushed through the doctors and nurses and put her hands to the side of Caroline’s head. The doctors tried to pull her away but Malakai growled and stood next to her to protect her. 

Aurora’s hands started glowing again and Caroline’s wounds began to close and soon she woke up. Nathaniel barged in the room and took his mate in his arms as soon as his eyes met with hers. They kissed until they were breathless.

“Never, ever scare me like this again, mate!” Nate said with pain evident in his voice. He climbed in bed and let her lean onto him. The others joined them.

Gabriella sat on Daniel’s lap, holding tightly to him.

“Can someone explain what happened?” Ben said finally

“With the rogues or after that?” Daniel asked chuckling

“Everything” Rob said waving his arms in the air in disbelieve

Daniel sighed and told them what happened with the rogues. Soft growls left Nathaniel through the whole story. Him and his wolf were still upset about almost losing his mate and brother. Caroline rubbed circles on the knuckles of his hand. 

“All I remember after being stabbed was darkness and then a soft light that was pulling me towards it. The next thing I know is I open my eyes and saw Aurora and Malakai and then I heard Gabby’s screams and ran to her” he finished his story

“You died and Caroline would have died too.” Malakai said

“I felt my wrist itch, my tattoo glowed and I felt pulled to Daniel's room. After that my body just knew what to do. Look, my tattoo used to say “thirty”, now it’s down to ‘twenty eight’. I guess that is what this tattoo does.” Aurora explained. Gabrielle bolted out of Daniel’s lap and hugged Aurora tightly squeezing the air out of her.

“Thank you so much for resurrecting my mate. I am sure I was dying, too.” Gabriella said. Daniel put his hand on her shoulder and tried to pry her off of Aurora, but she wouldn’t move

“Babe, you are suffocating Aurora” Danny said softly. Gabriella pulled away with a shy ‘sorry’ and buried her face in Daniel’s neck again.

“I am here, babe, I promise I am not leaving you again. Please calm down, my love.” Danny told her softly.

“You don’t understand, brother. You died. You literally died. She felt you die through the bond and I felt Cary dying, man. You can’t even start to imagine what that feels like.” Nathaniel said, pulling Cary even closer and breathing her scent in. Daniel's arms tightened around Gabriella.

“My last thought was that I would never see you and our pups again and I am sure Danny felt the same thing so we do understand to some extent. But what matters is that we are here now, you don’t have to grieve." Cary said

“Daddy,” Jasmine and Lorelei barged in the room crying and ran straight into Daniel’s arms. He cooed at them and assured them he was alright. 

“Mommy” Zane cried in Caroline’s arms.

“It’s alright, baby. I am alright” Cary cooed at him.

The kids have felt the loss of their parents but the pupsitter managed to keep them away from the hospital, saying their babysiblings needed protection. When Ben mindlinked her that Luna and Betta are alive she had to bring the pups there.

A whoosh was heard and Odette appeared in the crowded hospital room. 

“We need to talk, but not here” she sounded urgent. Odette teleported the whole group to the alpha’s office.

“The fate changed for a few moments and Fates almost panicked but then everything lined up again. What happened?” 

The group explained the last events including the gamma challenge. The witch was deep in thought. This kind of untraceable potion was very hard to create. Only high ranked witches could do that. Was one of her ‘sisters’ behind that? Could they have a traitor? And what would those goons offer that a powerful witch like that would want to trade with these wolves?

“Could it be a dark witch?” Gabriella asked and Odette looked at her confused

“You were thinking out loud” Danny chuckled

“Oh. Well yes, it could be a dark witch. It most likely is. Why didn’t I think about that?” Odette replied

“Brainstorming is a great way to get new ideas and solve problems. Keep thinking out loud” Gabriella said

“Okay. What about the goons? What would they have to offer a powerful witch like that?” Odette

“Information” Nathaniel said and all eyes turned to him, waiting to elaborate. “This attack was timed very conveniently. I was away and Ella was leading her meditation and Danny said the scent was potent, they weren’t hiding, they were leading them towards the cave.”

“Danny and Cary were the targets,” Gabriella concluded. “But why?”

“If they die Nathaniel and Gabriella would be mateless. Maybe someone is trying to mess with the prophecy. Undo what the fates did by separating you two.” Malakai suggested

The room fell silent. Someone is still trying to mess with their love and hearts. Again!

“I will cast a protection spell around the pack land.” Odette said. “But we need to fix the problem with the goons first. They cannot stay in the pack.”

Nathaniel mindlinked the spy that was assigned to follow them. He reported that the goons were at a bar in the human town and met with the woman, he wasn’t sure what species she was. 

“They are heading out, alpha. By the lust in their eyes I guess they will be busy for a while. What are your orders, alpha?” The spy said

“Keep following them from a distance”  Nathaniel said

“They are going to the woods. Oh f**k she killed them. Oh Goddess, that was brutal…” The spy said but the link was interrupted.

The leaders of the pack felt a connection loss. It happens when a member dies or leaves the pack.

“I felt three losses. Did she kill Aaron?” Ben said. Aurora’s tattoo started glowing. 

Odette snapped her fingers and Malakai, Aurora and Nathaniel were teleported to the spy’s location. Aurora hurried to Aaron and held his head with her hands. Odette chanted something and waved her hands graciously. Her brows furrowed in confusion. As soon as Aaron opened his eyes she snapped her fingers and teleported them back to the office.

“Aaron, are you ok?” Nathaniel asked

“Yes, alpha but I don’t know what happened” Aaron said

“You died, I guess the witch who killed Shawn and Barney felt your presence and killed you. Aurora revived you but you must not tell anyone about that. We need you to report everything you saw” Nathaniel explained

“Alpha, I will tell you everything but my mate is pregnant and if I really died I need to go to her and let her know I am alright. I am afraid something might happen to the pup” Aaron said worriedly

“Of course, man. I will mindlink the hospital. Go to her and take her for examination” Nathaniel said and Aaron bolted out.
