The night is still young
Jade’s POV
Twelve hours ago, I thought my biggest problem was being late to work.
I woke up to an unfamiliar ceiling this morning, my clothes scattered on the floor and my bare skin on the warm duvet.
I turn to my side to find glittering jewelry on the nightstand.
I picked them up.
Diamond earrings that certainly did not belong to me.
“Where was I?”
I stand to leave and the man from the bathroom calls out my name.
I don’t recognize him.
Was I drugged?
How does he know my name?
…twelve hours earlier
The first thing I noticed was the deserted street, it was never that gloomy even when it rained.
The second was the woman with a scarred face on a long coat watching like a hawk from across the street.
She was staring at me.
I convinced myself that she was probably waiting for a taxi.
I was walking to work trying to hasten my steps as I was going late to work already.
I should have kept walking but I was getting cold from the drizzle so I walked into the dim lit busy coffee shop.
I was hoping the rain would end before my night shift began.
I went inside, sat down with my palm on my chin thinking about my boring life.
Should I ditch work and go back to my bed? I thought to myself.
I had exams in a few weeks and I needed money to sort out stuff.
The rent of my shared apartment was also due hence the extra shifts I was taking.
But where was the energy for all that?
“You’re staring” a deep voice from beside startled me.
“Oh I’m sorry” I answered shivering.
I didn’t care if I really was staring, I didn’t have enough time nor energy to spend on a stranger.
“A cup of black eye” he said to the brewer then sat on the bench right next to me.
I looked at him and saw a sharply dressed man with a dark demeanor and a face hard to ignore.
He was tall with a lean muscular build. He had a defined jaw and his expression, calm and composed.
“You’re staring, again” he looked at me intensely.
This time I was.
“Oh” I smiled softly then looked away.
“A cup for the lady too” he ordered again then placed his coat on my shoulders.
“Oh thank you” I smiled at him, I needed it.
I knew an expensive cologne when I perceived it but this was a discovery.
The coffee came and I took a gulp.
The flavoring was amazing.
Before I could blink, Elma, my bestie, roommate and co worker called me.
“Hi girl. Richard is calling the house. Where are you?”
“Oh it’s raining babes. I’ll be there soon” I answered her.
“Okayy just report to work. Byee” she ended the call
He wasn’t even the boss, just my boss and a thorn on my flesh.
I looked down at my watch, it was 8:30pm.
I also sighted his, it was a Rolex, oh he was rich.
I should be on my way to work.
But I would be late if I went to work now anyways.
The man beside me sipped his coffee slowly and caught my attention again.
“One night” I whispered as though the whisper made it less harmless.
I knew I would regret this later but the heat of the moment didn’t let me think straight.
The man held my gaze and repeated, “one night”.
“The night is still young” I smiled.
He left a hundred dollar bill on the counter and left softly pulling me along.
It was like a train of cars magically appeared after I entered the shop.
We entered the back seat of one of the black numerous cars parked outside and immediately started kissing.
There was an insane adrenaline rush.
It was certainly an impulsive decision but I needed to unwind anyways.
We pulled up to what seemed like a guest house and the later was history.
He turned a reckless decision to an unforgettable experience.
…
I woke up the next morning to an unfamiliar ceiling.
It was the adrenaline rush that blinded me. Everything was foggy in my mind
I turned to my side but he wasn’t there.
I could hear water splashes from the bathroom, at least it wasn’t a hit and run.
I turned to the other side and saw a glittering jewelry on the nightstand.
I picked it up, diamond earrings.
They weren’t mine and he didn’t have piercing
“What the f**k?”
He couldn’t even wait till I left at least.
I grabbed my clothes off the floor and dressed up immediately.
On the couch in the room, I notice plenty envelopes and documents.
I opened one envelope and saw pictures, pictures of many different people, no one I could identify.
Was he an investigator? Things were getting really weird.
I looked at one picture and it was the man I just f****d with a beautiful woman, she looked like the scarred woman I saw across the street last night.
Now I know she wasn’t waiting for a taxi.
I didn’t want to get scared.
The place didn’t feel like a random guest house anymore.
I was going from euphoria to misery.
I get up and walk to the door about to leave.
“Jade” the same voice from last night called from the bathroom door.
He knew my name.
I stopped with my hand on the door knob but didn’t turn around.
“I have to go” I said and left immediately.
I left the room but couldn’t find my way to the exit of the “guest house”.
The house was dark and you could feel the sophistication.
“Where am I” I stopped to think to myself.
This is crazy. What have I done?
The man from last night magically appeared behind me, turned me then kissed me holding my chin.
“Jade honey, relax”.
“Huh,” I murmured.
I didn’t even tell him my name yet.
Had I been kidn*pped?
“I’m so sorry sir, please spare me” I started pleading already.
What did I get myself into?
I’m just a student and waitress with a simple routine.
School in the morning, work in the afternoon and sometimes at night.
It was very predictable and simple.
My friends had warned me to change my routine but I never listened.
I wasn’t looking for any trouble.
I didn’t go to odd places or did bad deals.
“The name is Xavier” he smiled still holding my chin in his hands.
I hit his hands off, run down the stairs and leave immediately.
