Chapter 3: Without knocking, he walked into the house, and at the abrupt arrival of someone, everyone turned to the door. They were all shocked. Christopher recognized many of those present but others he had never met before. "What is this good for nothing doing here?" “Who? Is this the good-for-nothing you guys mentioned just now? Didn’t you say that he already died?” “Who knows? He’s been missing for so many years. And now that Mr. Hermit is going to get engaged with Zara, he comes scurrying back. Who knows what thoughts he’s harboring?!” “He has evil intentions.” Zara's father's eyes widened immediately and he charged forward with a furious expression on his face in a bid to hit Christopher. "Bastard! How dare you come back? Why didn't you die outside?!" Just as his fist was about to land on Christopher's face, a hand that was as strong as an iron clamp pinched his tightly. “Old man, you must be tired of living! How dare you try to hit Christopher ?" Julian had been Lucas’s subordinate for years and had long treated him as his closest kin. How could he just stand by and watch him get humiliated by others? With an icy-cold gaze in his eyes, he emitted a murderous aura that frightened Zara's father to the point that he turned as pale as a sheet! Christopher immediately glared daggers at Julian. No matter Zara's father's actions toward him today, he was still his father-in-law. "Stand back! This is a family affair and you are not to get informed." Julian reluctantly let go of his grip on his hand and went out. Zara's father swallowed and wiped off the cold sweat forming on his forehead. The others who had watched this felt so intimidated by Julian's aura that they didn't have the cheek to say anything even though Julian had left the living room. What if he comes back again? "You, good for nothing! Why did you suddenly come back? And even after coming back, you brought an equally useless man like you to bully us!" His mother-in-law, Kate raised her voice furiously. "Mother, I know that leaving home without a reason was a cruel thing to do but now, I am back," Christopher replied indifferently, despite how Kate spat on him. "Don't you dare act so close to me! It's Mrs Styles, didn't your mother teach you any manners at all! I am no longer your mother-in-law, I am Mr. Hermit's mother-in-law now!" At the mention of his mother, Christopher's face turned ugly and he clenched his fist trying to calm himself down with the fact that the woman in front of him was Zara's mother. Seeing his clenched fist, Kate scoffed loudly. "Do you want to hit me too? I'm not scared of you! You're such a jinx, now that our lives are about to get better you decided to return!" "Hurry up and come inside, you have saved us the stress of getting a death certificate. You can get divorced from our daughter and set her free from her bondage!" Seeing how Christopher's expression changed at the mention of a divorce, the relatives couldn't help but sneer. "What's the matter? You don't want to get a divorce?" "You didn't expect that he would agree to it immediately, it was a one-time opportunity to be able to get married to a beautiful lady like Zara and into a prestigious family, he definitely won't agree to it so easily." "Tsk, despite the years he had spent outside he still couldn't make money to buy clothes for himself!" "Hurry up and divorce Zara so she can be free from your bondage." Christopher looked around, he didn't see Zara anywhere and he was slightly disappointed. Zara's father knocked on the table and exclaimed, “I’ll be honest. I won’t let my daughter suffer together with you! What can a penniless man like you give her?" "If you still have a conscience, and if you’re still a man, have the decency and self-awareness to divorce her. Stop wasting Zara's time and holding her back!” "You must be that man, right? Why did you decide to come back?" The man who was being surrounded by the relatives asked. He was Mr. Hermit. Zara's supposed fiance. "I came back for my wife." Hermit burst out laughing and he stood up, taking a check from his pocket. "Here's a check for 50,000 dollars, take it, divorce Zara, and get lost!" Christopher reached out to take the check while the others watched in contempt. “Indeed, he just wants money!”
