A Gift that’s a Curse

I stared at the ball of light at the tip of my fingers. Then i heard the same words from not to me. I looked over and saw Alpha Nathan on his feet moving his hands and repeating the word my dad had just spoken.

Ego iubeo lucem. Ego iubeo lucem. EGO IUBEO LUCEM!” Nothing happened. He slumped down into his chair. “I guess magic isn’t for me.” He said sadly

I giggled a little, and then my dad said “Now Marren, this is very important, the vessel is that, a vessel. It can only hold so much. Now end it like this before your magic drains on your life force. Extinguere.”

I took a few more moments to play with the ball of light and then said with a sigh “Extinguere” and the light was gone. Once it was gone, i felt tired. Very tired. My father grabbed onto me and lowerred me into the chair.

“Easy now, dear. The first time you use magic is always the most tiring, much like a shift. It will get easier as you use your powers more.”

“Now, Marren,” started Alpha Nathan. “You may be wondering why no one else is here, especially after you admitted what you did at your last pack. Well, that is also because of your father. He explained to us why you did what you did. He also explained that he made sure that no one was actually going to die. He kept everyone safe. He also let us know that now that you have served your punishment, that if you admitted to your crimes immediately that the curse would be broken and you’d now have a choice between good and evil, whereas before you didn’t.”

I looked at him “And you trust me?” I asked

“yes, you didn’t have to be honest with us. An evil person wouldn’t have decided to do so. They would have lied. You needed to feel remorse for your deeds. Do you feel remorseful for what you did?”

“I do” i said solemnly. I really did. “What i did previously,” i met his gaze “it was horrid, but addicting at the time. It was like a drug. But now, it just doesn’t feel the same. I get nothing out of it.” I admitted.

My father let out a cough “yes, you need to keep committing evil acts to grow your vessel. If it feels good you’ll keep doing it.” He states.

I look at my dad “did you have to o through something like this too, dad?”

“I did.” He says “why do you think im the only unseelie that was in our pack?”

“Okay” says Alpha Nathan “lets get this imitation going. You are going to indeed come in as an omega, but you do have the opportunity to move up. And we are going to have you go through classification for warrior stations if that’s something you are still interested in. Luna Mariam and the female beta Luce will help you with pack duties and beta Michael will show you training grounds tomorrow. And if you like, Gamma Shane will show you housing if you are interested.”

He reaches into his desk and pulls out a ceremonial dagger and a brass bowl. He slits his palm, and then i mine, and we join our blood, and he accepts me into the pack. I feel the connection immediately.

I sigh in relief “ Thank you, Alpha Nathan, and I'd love to take housing in the pack. I have an apartment in the city with things that need to be moved is it possible to have them moved?”

“absolutely, we can get movers going in the next 30 min. Let’s go pick you out a cabin.” He rises, and then his eyes glaze over as he mind links who i assume to be Gamma Shane. Soon theirs a knock at the door, and an aluring smell hits my senses. My wolf is at her feet and wagging he tail.

“No fuckin way” i say aloud.

“I CAN SMELL HIM, I CAN SMELL HIM!” My wolf yells in my head. “ a mate a second chance mate!”

“calm down Anissa, we’ve done this before. Males are possessive. He will come to us. We’re beautiful. We’re 5’5” 180 fair skinned, red headed, exotic as f**k, cat eyes round face and long long legged. Plus were curvy where it counts.” I say to my wolf. I step in front of the door a few steps back and wait for the embrace.

A beautiful dark haired man struts into the room with a I don’t give a f**k look on his face. He’s 6 foot maybe 6’1’’ broad and lean dark hair hazel eyes that catch the knight perfectly. A chiseled jaw and a scowl, Wait, a scowl? Why is he scowling? He’s just found his mate, he should be over joyed.

He gives me a confused look and walks around me, since i was standing in the middle of the walk way, he has to push me aside slightly to walk past.

“Um, excuse me.” He says annoyed and walks right up to alpha Nathan. They begin talking about what cottages are open and when and where to go get my things but im not listening.

“what just happened?” I ask my wolf

“I, I don’t understand” says Anissa confused and slightly heart broken. I can’t stand to hear or feel her upset. I turn to look at the man.

“Hey, gamma. What the f**k? Are you too scared to acknowledge me in front of the Alpha or something?”

Everyone stops talking and looks at me. “I’m sorry? Do i know you?” He asks confused.

“I can’t feel his wolf” Anissa says “something is wrong. I don’t think he can feel the bond.”

“Great.” I say to her “give me a name dammit, i look like an idiot.”

“what? Oh! Ummm, capri” she says excitedly

“Capri what the, never mind” i tell her

“Aren’t you Capri?” I say aloud. Trying to pretend to still be mad.

“No, I’m Shane.” He says indignantly and then shakes his head and goes back to his conversation.

“Oh i apologize.” I say embarrassed and turn around to see my father looking at me quizzically.

“What?” I ask him. “Simple mistaken identity”

He doesn’t change his expression “yeah, i bet. Mistaken identity. Uh, Alpha Nathan, Marren and I will wait for you in the hallway if that’s okay.” And he lightly grabs my arm and begins to lead me out the door.

“sounds good” Alpha Nathan says “We wont be but a minute”

We step into the hallway and a few steps away from the door and my dad turns me to look at him “What was that about?”

“I, um, I” im trying to focus on him and talk, but another alluring scent just entered my nose from the back door about 10 ferry i front of me. “I’m sorry dad, hold on.” I say and begin to follow the scent.

“Hey!, Marren! MARREN!” My father yells, but im not listening. This scent. It can’t be. Anissa is up and running in my head. Seriously! Two? Two of them?

im almost sprinting at this point and follow the scent around a corner and slam right into a wall of flesh.

“HEY!” A deep voice booms “watch where the f**k you are going”
