I SAW IT COMING

CHAPTER 2:TROUBLE AT MY DOORSTEP

King kept calling and calling throughout that night he didn’t stop calling,Ahh she was just 13 how could she pick a call from a guy in front of her mum she panicked.

“Cyndi who is that person calling you this late at night? And why can’t you pick up the call?Her mum asked suspiciously and angrily.

“Ahh mummy it’s one uncle that collected my number on my way from Grace place,Cyndi replied Honestly but scared .

“Who is this uncle? Her mum inquired.

“Ahh mummy it’s uncle king who always goes to Grace house he collected sister Cyndi’s number.Cecilia added.

“Ehh Cyndi you have started giving men your number?when did that one start ? Or is it because I gave you a phone ?Cyndi’s mum questioned her angrily.

“Mummy it’s not like that oh I’m sorry I will block and delete his number, I just felt it’s not bad. Cyndi Replied Innocently

She immediately blocked and deleted King number infront of her mum.

“Oya you all should leave this immediately and go to bed!! Her mum said angrily .

Cyndi and her siblings immediately ran to their room trying as much as possible not to annoy their mum further.

“Ahh sis Cyndi why was he calling you like that?cecilia asked innocently.

“How am I supposed to know? And so you knew him but said nothing? Cyndi asked her sister.

“I thought you knew him sef? He is always at Grace house, Cecilia replied to her sister.

“ Alright it’s over Na i have blocked him, you guys should come let’s pray. Cyndi beckoned on her siblings.

They said goodnight to each other that night shared the grace and slept off.

“Good morning sleepy heads you guys are still on bed?Aren’t Ya’ll going to school today?Cyndi’s mum asked playfully.

Stretching on their bed they all chorused “good morning mummy.

“Good morning my babies how was your nights?Cyndi’s mum asked concerned.

“Very well mummy “ they all answered one by one.

“Okay you guys should get up from bed so we can pray.Cyndi’s mum said.

They all woke up and said their prayers and started preparing for school, at this time Cyndi was just in JSS 3 writing her Junior Waec,While Cecilia was in primary 4, The third child Charlotte was in Primary 1 and The last child Cavan was just three months old so he wasn’t attending school yet.

“Mummy we are leaving already. Cyndi said making sure she had packed her and her siblings lunchbag.

“Okay God bless and protect you children replied Cyndi’s mum.

Cyndi and her siblings quickly hurried to the back of their father car ( which was Cyndi’s step father). The ride all the way to school was quiet, if a pin dropped anyone could literally hear the sound of it.There and then Cyndi pondered over last night and was so angry at herself for almost getting herself into trouble by giving King her number,She wondered what he could want from a small girl like her who knows nothing.

“Cyndi,Cyndi! Her step dad said loudly,”What are you thinking about as small as you are that you couldn’t even notice we’ve arrived at school?

Cyndi shivered immediately “ oh sorry daddy I was just memorising a presentation i was so supposed to present In class today,She lied.

“Okay you guys should take good care of yourselves and take this money, Cyndi’s step dad said giving money out to each of them.

“Bye daddy, they all chorused as he drove off.

Cyndi held her siblings by her hand with their bags and lunchboxes across her shoulders while she took them to their separate classes and bid them goodbye.

Cyndi got into her class dropped her bag and lunchbox,checked her bag for a book she wanted to read, she placed the book on her desk carefully to read but she couldn’t read she thought about last night all along and what uncle King could want from a small girl like her, she became so lost in her thoughts that all the noises her classmates made seemed not to have any effect on her.

She didn’t even notice when Mr Dan her Physics teacher got into the class and began teaching.

“Heyyy Cyndi,Cyndi ! He shouted but she was too lost in her thoughts to notice, Can someone close to her please tap her? Mr Dan beckoned.

Cyndi,Cyndi, Favour tapped her lightly.

“Jezz,Cyndi shouted shivering with fear, she jerked back to reality and saw her teacher standing infront of her looking at her sternly.

“ What exactly are you thinking about this early morning ? Mr Dan asked .

“ I’m so sorry sir it will never happen again I promise,Cyndi begged.

“I have never seen you like this what’s wrong? Should I be concerned? Mr Dan asked.

“ No sir I’m perfectly fine and it will never happen again i promise,Cyndi continued begging.

“ Okay Cyndi so are you ready for the class now?Mr Dan asked.

“ Yes Sure I am sir,Cyndi replied.

Mr Dan turned his back against the class and began writing on the board for the class,Cyndi brought out her book and began writing but she felt lost she still kept on thinking about what happened,trying to understand why he called her that late at night and cursing him for risking her body for a serious beating from her mum who asides from being a lovely mum tolerated no nonsense from her siblings or her.

School dismissed earlier today because they were supposed to have a PTA meeting later in the day, As the bell rang Cyndi immediately packed up her books and inserted them in her back,Picked up her bags and lunchboxes and headed up to her junior sisters classes to pick them up so they could go wait for their dad (Her step father).

“Cecilia how was school today? Cyndi asked concerned

“School was fine i learnt alot today and I have assignments please will you assist me on doing them?Cecilia begged her sister.

“Offcourse Cece why won’t I ? You’re my junior sister and it’s my responsibility to assist you,Cyndi replied sweetly.

“So Charlotte how was your day at school too?Cyndi added.

“ It was fine sis I was taught about the soil today and I learnt the types of soil,Charlotte responded.

“ Oh wow that’s great my baby,So do you have some assignments you want me to assist on?Cyndi

Inquired.

“No I was given no assignments today,Charlotte replied.

“ Okay thats daddy’s car coming we should be heading home now,Cyndi told her sisters and packed their bags and luckboxes while they entered the car.
