chapter 12.5

Uriahs POV

After Maggie left with the Police Josiah and I just sat in silence and in shock about what just happened. it's been about an hour and a half, and she's still not back yet.

"What has her so scared?" I asked him while staring at the celling.

My brain has been racing a mile a minute, trying to wrap my brain around what just happened.

my wolf was not happy being so far away from her while she was scared.

Josiah didn't look like he was any better his eyes kept flashing from green to gold.

I got up and started pacing around the apartment.

I pulled out my phone and called Coach.

"Hey boy." he sounded sleepy like he was starting to nod off.

"Hey, we have a problem, and we don't know what to do."

"Lay it on me, son." he sounded more awake now.

I walked over to the kitchen and placed my phone on speaker while sitting it on the counter, next to a cup of flowers.

"Maggie is leaving town."

"Oh? does she want you to go with her? what about the pack?"

Josiah growled, "f**k the pack."

"That's the problem. She doesn't want us to come with her."

"Hey boy! your grandpa built this pack. your father made it seamless for you to take over! you have had it easy compared to most alphas." he snapped at Josiah, "explain to me what happened after you left the gym."

so I did, glossing over the lovemaking. but now that I think of it, the feelings from her were all goodbyes like she was trying to say goodbye and memorize us at the same time.

"Who did she call?"

"Not sure, but it might have been her mom. but definitely a female that means a lot."

"I'm assuming she took her phone with her when she left?"

Josiah and I looked at each other, "Actually, I don't remember her having it when she walked out of the bathroom." I said.

Josiah went to the bathroom and was going through everything. I could hear the drawers being opened and closed. he walked back out and shook his head.

"Josiah can't find it."

"Hmm, anyways, move on. what else happened? Give me the exact words before the cops showed up."

"She was rejecting us as mates and said he would come for her."

"Did she say who he is?"

"No, before we could get it out, that's when the cops showed up. but when she talked about him, she got even more scared."

"Hmm, I still have come contacts from when I was Bata. I could make some calls. when she asked to come to this territory, was it permanent?"

"No, it was only for six months." Josiah growled on his way back to the bathroom. I guess to keep looking for the phone.

"Interesting, ok I'll call you back. in an hour with some answers." and he hung up.

I walked into the bathroom, and Josiah had the toilet tank open and was pulling out two halves of a phone.

"she broke her phone after the phone call with that woman?" I asked.

"she must have." he looked up at me. "something is seriously off."

"Why would she break her phone?"

"I'm not sure, but I think we should go wait at the police station to make sure she is safe."

"Agreed." I left to go get my shirt and shoes.

he did the same. we were ready to walk out the door in five minutes.

we were about to open the door when there was a soft knock, just one knock.

we both looked at the door for a few minutes, but nothing happened.

I slowly walked up to the door and opened it. there was a package on the floor and no one outside. not even a scent of a person who wasn't asleep in their apartments. I grabbed the package and shut the door.

walking over to the kitchen while opening it.

there was a set of grey hound tickets, a new phone, keys, and information about how big the pack is. who the Alpha is and address, a map of the town, with highlighted bus route to the apartment and alpha house from the grey hound statation, a birth certificate, ID, and a social security card.

"What is all this?" Josiah said, looking over the pack information.

"This is her next life, it looks like."

"Maggie isn't her real name?" he started laughing at that, I laughed with him. Out of all the things to comment on that what came out of his mouth.

"we need to get to the police station now." I said once I was able to get it together. I put everything back in the package and put it in my hand.

Josiah locked up the door behind us, and we both walked out of the apartment building without seeing anyone. I guess it is the middle of the night.

we drove in silence on our way to the police station.

we parked in the parking lot across the street from the station so she wouldn't see us when she got out. If she hadn't left yet.

"One of us should go check to see if she's still in there." I suggested as my phone rang.

"It's Coach," I said as I answered and turned it on speaker. "Hey."

"Hey, so I found out some more about our girl Maggie."

my heart beat started pounding, "What did you find out?"

"She comes from a old fashioned family. They, I didn't like that she was so old and arranged a marriage. she ran away from them the day before the wedding, probably got cold feet, you know. Her family is pretty worried about her. but they know where she is, I'm sure they will come and get her soon. After she's had her fun and is ready to finish out the contract with the husband. She is right her new husband probably won't like that she's not a virgin anymore, but that alliance is too important for him to hold it against her. Maybe the two of you taught her a trick or two. And he will forget pretty soon." he laughed as if that was the funniest thing.

Josiah and I looked at each other he just shook his head. she would not be that scared if it was just about a marriage contract between two old families.

"ok, thanks, Coach."

"Hey, I might be wrong. he might not care at all, and it just be a marriage on paper, and you guys can still be hers on the side."

"I guess she has to have a few conversations with us and her husband about what to do. thanks, Coach." and I hung up."Something sounds off about that story."

"That whole story is a Load of Sh*t and you know it." he spat out, "the contents in the package in the back seat tell more of a story than that."

"True," I opened the driver side door and started to get out.

"Where are you going?"

"Well, I'm the calmer of the two of us right now. and we still need to check to see if she is here." I pulled my phone out and shook it at him. "Text if you see anything weird."

I shut the door and ran across the street.

as I walked into the police station, I kept my head down and looked around quietly, trying to not drawl attentionto myself. I saw her sitting in the lobby with two female officers who were talking to her and handing her food and coffee. from this distance, she did look like a victim.

I left the police station and crossed the street in a hurried walk to not draw attention to myself.

as I opened the door and sat down, "she's still in there talking to some officers. she does look like a victim. Either she's a really good actress or someone is really scaring her, and she's playing that card to stay in there."

"Maybe both." he said while looking out the window intensely.

I followed his gase, "What is Coach doing here?"

my Wolf wanted to fly out of the car and demand to know why the ex beta was here. I could tell that Josiah was also fighting that urge.

"we can't assume anything. we will have to wait and see what happens." I said through clamped teeth.

so we just sat there, waiting for her to come out. I rolled down the windows when we saw Coach and her talking so we could hear what they said.

neither one of us could believe the lies that he was telling her. why would he lie to her and to us both. who is she?

this is so much more than a marriage contract.

when she got in the truck, we followed them. it was so hard to keep our distance while following them.

when her wolf cried out in a panic, our wolves cried back out to her, trying to reassure her that we would be there for her.

then the truck swerved, and she was cut off from us. my Wolf wanted me to floor it and case a car reck we would all survive, and we would have her back.

I had to remind him that we would have no way of escaping if we did that. he grumbled in agreement, but he didn't like that.

eventually, Coach slowed down and turned into a warehouse area. we drove by so he wouldn't see us.

"we will have you back soon baby. we promise." I said under my breathe to her as we drove by.
