It seemed like a long time had passed and she went to the door to try to open it, but it was locked. So, she went to the other door that led back into the room with the medical equipment, where she had left the man that had saved her. It was locked to and when panic struck her. What was going on? Had she made a grave mistake coming here. Before she had only been thinking about getting him help and making sure he would be alright but now she had other thoughts running through her mind. It downed on her that she had seen him change forms and she didn’t imagine that was something that they allowed people to see. She was all of a sudden frightened and couldn’t help but think that this was going to end badly for her, and soon. After a while she heard noise outside the door. Then she heard the doorknob turn and she wasn’t sure what to do. She was sure that they were there to kill her. And if they were, she didn’t know what she would do about it. She would be no match for anyone of them. They were all tall and muscly and she was 5 feet 4 and about 105 lbs. There was no way she could win in a fight and that was if they weren’t wolves. But she suspected that they all were. Even if he could somehow manage to outmaneuver them, which she highly doubted, she had no idea where she was. She hadn’t been able to see outside the vehicle on the drive there and had lost track of the turns. Had he saved her just for her to die here? She hoped that wouldn’t be the last thought she had before her death.
To her surprise the man told her that he was asking for her and she could see him now and motioned for her to come to the door. She reluctantly did as he asked even thought she wasn’t sure he could be trusted. But even if she couldn’t trust him, she didn’t guess there was much she could do other than to do as he asked and hope for the best. At the very least maybe it would buy her some time. So, she did as he asked trying to keep some distance between herself and him. To her surprise he actually took her into a room where she saw him sitting in a chair. She could help but smile at him because as soon as he saw her, he had smiled. He had a brilliant smile. He was very nice looking. She hadn’t really noticed before given everything that had happened. Everything had happened so fast she didn’t have time to think about anything except getting him help. She couldn’t believe he was sitting up in a chair smiling at her after being stabbed and losing so much blood. She had expected him to be laying in a bed half dead, if she got to see him at all. She stopped a few feet away from him and he motioned for her to sit in the chair beside him. So, she did, not knowing what to expect. This had all been unbelievable. When she sat down, he reached out towards her and offered his hand and told her his name was Chase. She shook his hand and told her his name. He repeated her name almost like he needed to say it for himself, like he was getting used to it. She smiled at him again and told him she was glad that he was okay and thanked him for saving her. He smiled but it didn’t quite reach his eyes, and he seemed as though he was almost sad. She asked him what was wrong. He didn’t say anything right away so she went on to say that she wouldn’t tell anyone about what happened or what she had seen. He just looked at her. And she wasn’t quite sure what to say and somewhat regretted having said it. She wondered if she had stuck her foot in her mouth or written her own death sentence by doing so. She hoped not. Chase didn’t respond in any way. His expression was neutral, and she couldn’t read it. That made her somewhat uneasy. He shifted in his chair and seemed to pick up on her unease. He asked her if she wanted to go for a short walk. She agreed even though she wasn’t sure why or if he should be walking anywhere.
She followed Chase outside. It was still dark. She wasn’t sure just how much time had passed but she knew it had been hours. Chase walked in front of her for a few hundred feet when they came to a trail that lead into the woods. She felt a little nervous about going into the woods, but she followed anyway. After they got into the woods her eyes adjusted some, but it was still dark, but the moon shown down enough to create enough light for her to see the dimly lit trail in front of her. Chase slowed up and walked beside her. She felt the heat from him they were so close. He looked over at her and smiled again. He told her that he needed to talk to her about some important things and he hoped that she would hear him out before making a decision. She acknowledged his request and he went on. She couldn’t help but wonder what he was going to propose. He started by telling her thank you for helping him get back. He knew she didn’t have to do that, but she did, and he appreciated it. He told her that he hoped his transformation hadn’t scared her to much. He went on to explain that as she probably had already guessed they didn’t typically let anyone see the shift, but he had no control over it once he had passed out, and it just sort of happened without him being aware of it. He explained that he was startled when he woke up to see that she had witnessed it all. And to her surprise he was brutally honest. He told her that typically when someone sees one of them change, they eliminate the threat that would cause, meaning they would kill the person so they cannot tell anyone. That made her heart jump into her throat thinking that she may not be out of the woods yet. She could still be in danger. He went on to tell her not to worry they had come to an agreement about her and that he hoped she would work with him to prevent any harm from coming to her. They had decided to give her a chance. But they wanted her to stay there at the compound with them for a bit. That set fear in her because she didn’t know what that would entail. If she said no would they kill her? Or would they hold her against her will? She decided it would be best not to push her luck and agreed to stay for now. She asked how long that would be for, but Chase said the time had not been determined yet. That ignited her mind. She didn’t want to jeopardize her well being obviously but if she did live through this would it be to late for her to finish her degree? Would it derail her plans? The recent feelings she had of being hopeful and positive about her future had now turned to wonder and fear. She may have come there and have had worked so hard for nothing. The thought made her sick to her stomach.
Chase and Tahlia walked for a bit before he told her they should head back before the others wondered where they were. She had a passing thought of making a run for it, but she then thought against it. She didn’t know where she was, and she figured they would just catch her anyway and then if they really did have planned on giving her a chance it would ruin that. As they walked back Chase told her that she was to be treated as a quest while she was there. She would have her own room. When they got back the went into the large house again but this time into a kitchen. As soon as they walked in, she was hit with the smell of bacon and other delicious smells. Her stomach grumbled and Chase smiled at her and handed her a plate. He told her it was time for breakfast. She couldn’t believe how much food there was. She followed him and they both got their food and grabbed a drink and went into a large dinning room where there were several tables and many people sitting and eating. As she came into the room the room got quite and she could feel all the stares. Chase just lead her to a table, and they sat downside by side and ate their breakfast. It didn’t take long for everyone to pick up their conversations and soon the room was as loud as it had been when she came in. But she could still feel the sideways glances every once in a while. She supposed they weren’t used to having outsiders there. She tried to ignore it and make small talk with Chase. He did a good job of making her feel welcome and forget about all the people looking at her. They went through the day that way. That night Chase showed her where she would be sleeping and told her it would be her room while she was there. It was a nice room and she was surprised by their hospitality given that she had before been fearful that she was going to be killed.
