The Moon Remembers

1083 Words
The forest had gone silent. Too silent. No insects. No wind. No movement. Only rain falling through the towering black trees as Golden Vale stumbled backward across the soaked earth, trying desperately to steady her breathing. Her chest burned. Every nerve in her body screamed. It felt as if something alive was trapped beneath her skin… Trying to claw its way out. Twenty feet away, the rogue Alpha stood watching her. Waiting. Smiling. His yellow eyes glowed unnaturally in the darkness. He looked almost pleased. “As expected…” he whispered. Golden’s voice trembled. “Who are you?” The man tilted his head slowly. “You can call me Malakar.” Lightning flashed behind him. For one second, his scarred face looked monstrous. “I’ve spent eighteen years searching for you.” Golden shook her head. “You have the wrong person.” A low laugh escaped him. “No…” He took another slow step forward. “I finally found the Moon’s lost daughter.” Meanwhile… Miles away, chaos had consumed the banquet hall Broken glass covered the marble floor. Smoke drifted through the shattered walls. Pack members scrambled in confusion. Near the entrance stood Lucian Vale. His breathing was uneven. His eyes glowed dangerously. Every instinct in him screamed the same thing. Find her. Across from him stood Damian Ashford. Watching. Waiting. Lucian’s voice cut through the noise. “If you come near my sister again…” Damian crossed his arms. “Your sister ran into a forest with a rogue hunting her.” Lucian’s jaw tightened. Damian took one deliberate step forward. “You can threaten me later.” A dangerous silence passed. Then Gabriel appeared beside them. His face had gone pale. “Golden’s scent trail disappeared near the western forest.” Lucian turned immediately. But Damian stopped him. “No.” Lucian’s head snapped toward him. “What?” Damian’s eyes darkened. “My wolf can still feel her.” Lucian hated hearing that. But right now— It meant one thing. Damian could help find her. And Golden mattered more than pride. For the first time… They moved together. Into the forest. Back in the darkness beneath the trees… Golden’s body began shaking violently. Malakar watched with growing fascination. “You feel it now, don’t you?” Golden stepped backward again. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” “You will.” Rain dripped from his black coat as he smiled wider. “The blood inside you has been sleeping.” Golden grabbed her chest suddenly. Pain exploded through her ribs. She gasped sharply. Something hot rushed through her veins. Not heat. Energy. Wild. Uncontrolled. Ancient. Her vision blurred. And for one impossible second— She heard a woman’s voice. Soft. Distant. Familiar. Golden… Her body froze. Do not fear the power inside you. Golden’s eyes widened. “Who said that?” Malakar stopped smiling. Because he heard nothing. But he saw what happened next. Golden’s pupils began changing. Gold. Pure molten gold. Not wolf eyes. Something older. Something impossible. Malakar instinctively stepped backward. “…interesting.” The pain became unbearable. Golden dropped to her knees. Her fingers dug into the wet earth. She couldn’t breathe. Couldn’t think. Her entire body felt like it was being torn apart from the inside. Malakar slowly approached. “You’ve been hidden too long.” Golden looked up weakly. Fear flooded her chest. He was getting closer. Too close. He reached toward her face. And something inside her snapped. The world stopped. Every raindrop around her froze in midair. The wind disappeared instantly. The forest itself seemed to hold its breath. Malakar froze. For the first time… Fear crossed his face. Golden slowly stood. But something was different. Her hair moved as if floating underwater. Gold light began spreading beneath her skin like living veins. Her eyes now glowed bright enough to illuminate the darkness around her. Her voice came out deeper. Layered. As though another voice spoke beneath her own. “Do not…” Malakar stepped backward. Golden raised one trembling hand. “…touch me.” The ground exploded. A shockwave tore through the forest. Trees bent violently outward. Rocks shattered instantly. The air itself cracked with pressure. Malakar was thrown nearly thirty feet across the clearing. His body slammed into a tree hard enough to split the trunk. He coughed blood. And stared at her in disbelief. “No…” Golden stood motionless in the center of the destruction. Power rolled off her body in waves. God like, Divine. Terrifying. Malakar slowly pushed himself upright. And for the first time in decades… The rogue Alpha looked afraid. “What… are you?” Golden stared at him. Her expression empty. Cold. Inhuman. Then suddenly— Every light vanished. Her eyes returned to normal. The golden energy disappeared. And her body collapsed instantly into the mud. Unconscious. Malakar remained frozen where he stood. Not moving. Not breathing. Because he understood something horrifying. The prophecy was wrong. They had all misunderstood it. This girl… Was not meant to become the next Luna. She was something far greater. Something the wolf world had not seen in centuries. And now— Even he wasn’t sure he wanted to control her. Far in the forest… Damian stopped running abruptly. Lucian nearly collided with him. “What happened?” Damian stared ahead. His face had gone completely pale. His wolf was trembling. “That power…” Gabriel stepped closer. “What power?” Damian whispered hoarsely. “…that wasn’t a wolf.” However whatever was the explanation Golden still was the most captivating women Damian had ever seen, and he had already made his mind up to stay by her side no matter what, came after tonight. Demand and Lucian ran towards Golden, before anyone could react, Malakar's body twisted violently as shadows erupted around him like living smoke. A low, guttural growl tore from his throat, shaking the ground beneath their feet. Damian lunged forward, but he was too late. In one swift movement, Malak slammed his hand against the earth, unleashing a wave of dark energy that forced everyone backward. Golden’s family stumbled as the forest itself seemed to tremble. Through the chaos, Malak smirked, his crimson eyes burning with disappointment, frustration and fear before vanishing into the storm, leaving behind only silence… and the promise he would return. And somewhere hidden beyond the trees— The moon began glowing brighter than it had in a thousand years. Watching. Waiting. Remembering.
