Alistair had been sequestered with Veronica in a storage room in the restaurant’s basement for the past hour. Cor was upstairs leaving a new set of messages for workers, this time to board up the smashed windows as soon as the sun came up, and Ben and Zev were waiting in the cold, cracked-concrete basement hallway, waiting for Veronica and Alistair to emerge.
