After the pep rally, I managed to find Lila with Nina in the crowd of students trying to exit the gymnasium. I still needed to find my coach to tell him that David had food poisoning.
That was the only excuse I could think of to explain why he looked the way he did without actually saying he was hungover. Hopefully, he would understand and not punish David for his stupidity.
