CHAPTER 1: THE PRICE OF DESPIRATION
Amara Cole stared at the eviction notice in her trembling hands.
Seven days. She had seven days to pay $15,000 or she and her little sister would be on the streets of New York.
"Amara, are we going to lose the house?" 8-year-old Lily asked from the small couch, clutching her worn teddy bear.
Amara forced a smile. "Never. Big sis will handle it."
But how? Her mother's hospital bills had swallowed everything. Two jobs were not enough.
Her phone rang. Unknown number.
"Amara Cole? This is Vanessa from Stone Enterprises. Mr. Alexander Stone would like to meet you. Tomorrow, 9 AM. It's about a contract... a very lucrative one."
Alexander Stone. The billionaire every woman in Manhattan wanted and every man wanted to be. Cold, ruthless, heartless.
The next morning, Amara entered his 50th floor office shaking in her cheap dress.
Alexander Stone didn't even look up from his laptop. He was more handsome than the magazines, but his eyes were ice.
"You are Amara Cole. 24. Broke. Mother in coma. Sister to feed. GPA 4.0 but working as a waitress. Perfect."
Amara frowned. "Perfect for what?"
He finally looked at her and slid a document across the glass table.
"My grandfather will cut me off from the company if I don't get married and produce an heir in 12 months. I need a wife. You need money."
Amara's eyes widened as she read the first line:
*MARRIAGE CONTRACT: 1 YEAR. PAYMENT: $500,000. RULES: NO LOVE. NO TOUCHING. NO QUESTIONS.*
"500k dollars?" she whispered.
"Half now to clear your debts and your mother's hospital. Half at the end when you divorce me. You will live in my mansion, attend events with me, and... give me a child. Through IVF, of course. I don't do intimacy."
Tears filled her eyes. This was crazy. Selling herself?
"What if I say no?"
"Then you leave and lose your apartment in seven days," he said coldly. "What will happen to little Lily?"
That hit her. Amara closed her eyes. She had no choice.
"And if I get pregnant? What happens to the baby?"
"The baby stays with me. You leave with your money. That's the contract."
Amara picked up the pen with a shaking hand. She thought of her mother on oxygen, of Lily's small face.
She signed.
Alexander stood up, towering over her. "Good. From now on, you are Mrs. Stone. My driver will bring your things tomorrow. And Amara..."
He leaned close, his cologne intoxicating.
"Don't ever fall in love with me. I will destroy you."
He walked away, leaving her alone in that cold office with a signed contract that just sold her life for $500,000.
What she didn't know was, Alexander Stone had been watching her for three months. And he didn't choose her by accident.

*Chapter 2: Welcome to Hell*
The Stone Mansion was not a home. It was a museum.
Amara arrived with one small box. Lily held her hand tight.
A tall woman in red, with lips like a knife, waited at the entrance.
"You must be the replacement wife," she purred. "I'm Isabella, Alex's real girlfriend. Let's make one thing clear, little girl — he will never love you. You are just a womb for hire."
Amara's cheeks burned. "I'm his wife."
"For one year." Isabella laughed and stepped closer. "He told me everything. He will never touch you. He hates poor desperate girls like you."
Before Amara could answer, Alexander's voice cut through the hall.
"Isabella. Leave."
He didn't defend Amara. He just looked at her coldly. "Your room is upstairs. Second door to the left. My room is off-limits. Don't wait for me for dinner. Don't look for me."
That night, Amara cried silently in her huge, lonely bedroom. The bed was soft, but her heart was heavy.
A soft knock. Lily peeped in. "Big sis, I'm scared. This house is too big."
Amara hugged her. "We will be okay. It's just one year. One year and we will be free."
Downstairs, Alexander stood in his office, staring at a photo on his desk. It was Amara — but three years younger, in a university graduation gown, smiling.
Vanessa, his assistant, entered. "Sir, you haven't told her?"
"No," Alexander said, his voice low. "She can't know I knew her mother. She can't know I owe her family everything. If she knows, she won't take the money. And I need her to hate me... it's safer that way."
He looked out the window at Amara's room light.
"Make sure Isabella never enters this house again."
*Chapter 3: The Broken Rule*
Day three of being Mrs. Stone.
Amara had to attend her first gala as Alexander's wife. She wore a $20,000 blue dress he had bought, but she felt naked.
"Smile," he whispered in her ear as cameras flashed, his hand on her waist. His touch burned her.
"Don't touch me, you said no touching," she whispered back, annoyed.
"For the cameras, we touch," he said.
On the dance floor, he pulled her close. Too close. Everyone was watching.
"You look beautiful," he said quietly, and for a second his ice eyes melted.
Amara's heart skipped. "You said don't fall in love..."
"I said YOU shouldn't fall in love," he corrected, his face inches from hers. "I didn't say anything about me."
Before she could react, Isabella appeared on the stage and grabbed the mic.
"Good evening everyone! I'm so happy for Alex and his... new wife. But before we celebrate, I think his wife should know — Alexander Stone cannot have children. The doctors said it's impossible. So this whole heir thing? It's a lie to get her property!"
The whole hall went silent. Hundreds of eyes turned to Amara.
Amara looked at Alexander, betrayed. "Is it true? You can't have kids? So why did you marry me?"
Alexander's face turned to stone. He grabbed the mic.
"Who told you that lie, Isabella? Security!"
But Amara already ran out, tears ruining her makeup, her expensive dress dragging.
Alexander chased her into the rain outside.
"Amara! Wait!"
"No! You used me! You made me sign a contract to give you a child you know you can't even have! Why me?!"
He grabbed her shoulders, rain soaking both of them.
"Because you are the only person in this world who can give me what I really need! I don't need a child, Amara! I need YOU!"
And then, breaking his own Rule No. 1 of the contract — NO TOUCHING, NO KISSING — he kissed her.
In the rain, in front of the whole of Manhattan's elite watching from the glass windows, the billionaire who never loves... kissed his contract wife like his life depended on it.
And Amara, who swore she would never fall for a cold billionaire, kissed him back.
Inside, Isabella was smiling as she recorded everything. "Perfect. Now Grandfather Stone will see what a cheap w***e she is."
