Kyle’s POV
“What did you do to my family?”
My voice echoed across the courtyard.
Alpha Marcus didn’t answer.
He stood beneath the dying moonlight, his fist closed tightly around the silver pendant.
Jail stared at her father.
“Father?”
Marcus looked at her.
For several seconds, he said nothing.
Then he slowly opened his hand.
The pendant lay against his palm.
Old.
Scratched.
But unmistakable.
The same pendant I’d seen in my mother’s hands.
My blood burned.
“You had that.”
Marcus looked at me.
“Your mother gave it to me.”
“Why?”
“Because she knew I would protect it.”
I laughed bitterly.
“Protect it?”
I stepped toward him.
“Where were you when they came for my family?”
Marcus’s jaw tightened.
“I was there.”
Everything went silent.
Justin stepped forward.
“You were there?”
Marcus nodded.
“The night Kael disappeared.”
My fists clenched.
“You knew my father.”
“Yes.”
“You knew my mother.”
“Yes.”
“You knew where I was.”
Marcus looked directly into my eyes.
“Yes.”
The answer broke something inside me.
For eighteen years, I’d believed I had been abandoned.
That my parents had simply vanished.
That I wasn’t worth coming back for.
But they had known where I was.
Someone had known.
And that someone had been standing in front of me all this time.
“Why didn’t you find me?”
Marcus lowered his eyes.
“Because I was ordered not to.”
“By who?”
He didn’t answer.
I stepped closer.
“By who?”
A voice came from behind the Council.
“By me.”
Everyone turned.
The oldest Council elder stepped forward.
His face was calm.
Too calm.
“You?”
I stared at him.
“You ordered him to leave me?”
The elder nodded.
“Your existence threatened the balance of Solaria.”
Justin’s golden eyes flashed.
“You hunted us.”
“No.”
The elder’s voice remained cold.
“We contained a threat.”
Justin growled.
“You murdered Leonewolves.”
“We stopped a war.”
I felt the power inside me rising.
Jail touched my arm.
“Kyle.”
Her voice grounded me.
But the rage remained.
The elder pointed toward me.
“You are the last pure Leone heir.”
Justin immediately stepped between us.
“I’m a Leone too.”
“You are a descendant.”
He looked at me.
“Kyle is the bloodline’s final direct heir.”
My chest tightened.
“Why me?”
The elder answered quietly.
“Because your father chose you.”
“Chose me for what?”
“To carry the key.”
I looked at the floating silver object.
The Moon Key.
The elder’s expression darkened.
“That key opens the Gate of Shadows.”
Justin shook his head.
“No.”
The elder looked at him.
“You know the old stories.”
“I know enough.”
“Then you know what happens when the gate opens.”
Justin’s eyes narrowed.
“The Shadow King returns.”
The elder nodded.
“And when he returns, the first person he will seek is the Leone heir.”
I looked at the black mark on my chest.
Suddenly—
pain exploded through my body.
I fell to one knee.
“Kyle!”
Jail dropped beside me.
My veins turned gold.
My vision blurred.
Then I heard a voice.
Open the gate.
I covered my ears.
“Get out of my head!”
Jail held me.
“Look at me.”
I looked at her.
Her silver eyes were glowing.
“Breathe.”
“I can’t.”
“Yes, you can.”
Her forehead touched mine.
“Stay with me.”
The pain began to fade.
The bond between us pulsed.
Silver light wrapped around our bodies.
The Council stepped backward.
The elder whispered,
“The bond is stronger than we expected.”
Jail looked up.
“What did you expect?”
The elder’s eyes hardened.
“That she would never find him.”
Jail stood.
“You’re afraid of us.”
“No.”
He looked toward the sky.
“We are afraid of what happens when you become one.”
Suddenly—
BOOM!
The castle wall exploded.
Everyone was thrown backward.
I hit the ground.
Jail rolled across the stone.
Justin shouted,
“ATTACK!”
Bloodfangs poured through the broken wall.
Dozens.
Then hundreds.
Their red eyes burned in the darkness.
The Silvermoon warriors charged.
Steel collided.
Fangs tore through armor.
Wolves transformed.
The courtyard became chaos.
Jail shifted instantly.
Her silver wolf exploded into existence.
She launched herself into the Bloodfang army.
I stared.
She was terrifying.
Beautiful.
Powerful.
My mate.
A Bloodfang lunged at her from behind.
I moved before I could think.
Gold energy erupted from my body.
The creature froze.
Its knees struck the ground.
Then every Bloodfang within twenty feet stopped.
They turned toward me.
Justin stared.
“Kyle…”
I could feel them.
Their fear.
Their rage.
Their hunger.
Their pain.
All of it.
I whispered,
“Leave.”
The Bloodfangs suddenly screamed.
Their bodies twisted.
Justin grabbed me.
“Stop!”
“I can’t!”
“You’re controlling too many!”
Their minds were flooding into mine.
Hundreds of voices.
Hundreds of screams.
I dropped to my knees.
Jail ran toward me.
“Kyle!”
A Bloodfang suddenly attacked her.
I screamed.
“No!”
My power exploded.
A golden shockwave tore across the battlefield.
Every Bloodfang was thrown backward.
The castle windows shattered.
The ground cracked.
Silence.
Jail stood untouched in the center.
She stared at me.
My eyes were completely gold.
But something else had changed.
My shadow wasn’t shaped like a human.
It was shaped like a gigantic wolf.
Justin whispered,
“That’s not possible.”
Selene appeared on the broken wall.
She smiled.
“It’s beginning.”
Jail looked at her.
“What is?”
Selene pointed toward Kyle.
“His true form.”
The shadow behind me began growing.
Larger.
Larger.
Until it towered above the castle.
Golden eyes opened inside it.
A massive black wolf stepped out of my shadow.
Its fur shimmered like the night sky.
Silver markings covered its forehead.
Jail stared at it.
“Kyle…”
The wolf looked at her.
Then lowered its head.
Not in submission.
Recognition.
Jail’s wolf answered with a low growl.
The two wolves stood facing each other.
The mate bond exploded between them.
Silver and gold energy spiraled into the sky.
The Blood Moon suddenly returned.
But it wasn’t red anymore.
It was black.
The Council elder stared upward.
“No…”
Justin looked at him.
“What?”
The elder whispered,
“The prophecy has changed.”
Jail looked at him.
“What prophecy?”
He pointed at the sky.
“The original prophecy said the Alpha and the Leone would either save Solaria or destroy it.”
His face went pale.
“But there’s a second verse.”
Kyle’s wolf growled.
The elder continued.
“If the Alpha and the Leone become one…”
Thunder shook the castle.
“…the Shadow King will not return to rule Solaria.”
Everyone stared at him.
“Then what happens?”
The elder looked directly at Kyle.
“The Shadow King will return…”
A pause.
“…to kill them.”
The black moon cracked.
A massive red eye opened inside it.
A voice rolled across the heavens.
“I HAVE FOUND YOU.”
Kyle’s wolf roared.
Jail transformed beside him.
The entire Silvermoon pack dropped to their knees.
And somewhere beyond the mountains—
something ancient began walking toward them.
One step.
Then another.
Each footstep shook the earth.
Justin looked toward the darkness.
“It’s coming.”
Jail stood beside Kyle.
“Then let it come.”
Kyle looked at her.
For the first time, he wasn’t afraid.
He took her hand.
“If it wants us…”
His golden eyes burned.
“…it will have to fight both of us.”
The ancient voice laughed.
And the gates of Silvermoon exploded open.
