The Invite

Rio POV Me and Jessica had just had the best s*x sever. We’ve been like this ever since we found each other. Not a day has gone by that we haven’t felt that jolt of electricity between us, and every time I call, she’s there. Goddess, I love her. Before I met Jessica, I thought Jail was going to be my mate and I would be hers. We grew up together—only a few months apart. On my 18th birthday, I found out Jessica was my mate. I was excited, but deep down I was a bit heartbroken because I did love Jail, and she’s my best friend. Over the past year, I’ve watched her try to find her mate. We went to different packs to visit and, in the process, hoped she would find him. But we didn’t find him in any of the places we went. Her parents kept putting pressure on her about producing an heir to continue the alpha bloodline, and wanted her to take a chosen mate. But she refused. And then all these egotistical alphas started coming around—like Timothy, the bastard. When Jail told me she had found her mate, I was excited for her. But before it could sink in, she told me he was a lone wolf. Lone wolves are unpredictable creatures. Even rogues fear them because no one knows what they’re going to do next. They’re everywhere and nowhere at the same time, making them difficult to understand or trust. It’s hard for them to settle in one place. Still, she’s my best friend. I know she’ll make it work. I just know it. I snap out of my thoughts and get out of bed to put on some clothes and get some work done. Running a pack is not easy. I’ve been going over our financial data, trying to find ways to increase income through our businesses. We run a pharmaceutical company that provides medicine to packs when they go to war, and we’re the best in the land. A new email comes in from Timothy. He says he’s coming for a visit, stating he was invited by the former Luna Kate. The f**k? Oh, she’s going to kill her mother when she returns and sees this. Speaking of Jail… when is she coming back from the forest? Maybe she found him—that’s why she’s taking so long. Or maybe she’s still searching.
