"Hi" she greeted as her voice echoed throughout the room.
He didn't respond but only gestured her to sit which she did. Those brown eyes were full of love once. Now hate was the only language they spoke. For a few seconds there was a wave of silence throughout the room. All that could be heard were the breaths of the four ladies seated nervously on a caribbean sofa.
"So" he uttered, breaking the silence, "what brings you here?".
"Ummm" was the only response she gave while nervously playing with her fingers.
Her head felt heavy now. Her heart about to burst open her ribcage, and her forehead sweaty all of a sudden.
"I see. As much as I'd love to sit around and play dumb with you girls, I've got important things to attend to. So, have a good day" he said then got up & motioned towards the stairs.
"I'm sorry Ramsey" she blurted out in a tone of desperation. "I'm sorry for all I did to you. I admit I did you wrong and I've been to proud to come to terms with that. But I've turned a new leaf now"
He looked her right in the eyes as if searching for her soul then replied with "good for you" and began his ascent to the upper floor.
"Is that all?" She asked, shocked at his response.
"Yes" he replied as he went up.
"But..." before she could utter another word, he had vanished into the darkness of the upper floor.
With a defeated look on her face, she looked back at her friends and said "So I guess this is it. Let's go".
They all rose to their feet to leave when Abby spotted something on the chair Ramses stood up from. It was a shiny silver box with an inscription on it that looked weird. Abby understood 18 different languages and read and wrote them perfectly, but she couldn't quite place what language the inscription was written in.
"That belongs to me". A deep voice echoed from the staircase.
"What is....." she paused, reevaluating her next words.
"What is it?" She finally questioned.
Ramses slowly stepped down the staircase, his eyes moving between the silver box and Abby. Upon his descent, he motioned towards Abby and stood inches away from her as if trying to kiss her.
"Not anything you'll want to know about little one" he said as his pupils dilated and his eyes became glossier.
Sweat immediately formed on her forehead and her legs turned mush, her heart pounded so hard and she began to tremble immensely. She quickly returned the silve box to him & hurried towards the door where her friends stood watching the whole drama.
And as he turned to return upstairs, Ramsey's eyes met with Pandora's who looked a pitiful figure. He looked outside and noticed it was late. "Damn how long have we been here tf" he thought.
"It's quite late. I've got a guest room upstairs" he said nonchalantly.
The staircase was made of wood carvings with a touch of silver at the top, steps were covered with Egyptian rugs which looked perfect & had a good grip on the feet.
The passage was quite basic, except for the led lights that illuminated as they walked by. They walked by many doors, which made them wonder if he really lived alone. The guest room was the last on the left, a shiny & well decorated silver door led them to a wide & spacious area, adorned with artistic paintings and chandeliers hanging from the ceiling.
The ceiling was a masterpiece coupled with drawings of Greek gods and heroes. "You'll be spending the night here. The bathroom's on the left, & call me if you need anything." He said.
"But I... I mean, we don't have your number" said Pandora.
He looked into her eyes, and in a monotone voice, replied "the tablephone is next to the bed, the charger's in the drawer and so are some spare batteries.
As he turned back to leave, Pandora called out his name. "What?" He asked?
"Goodnight" she replied, forcing a smile.
He said nothing but simply grunted as he exited the room.
Pandora's heart sank as tears welled up in her eyes. She took a deep breath and as she exhaled, a drop ran down her left cheek, then another one quickly followed, then on the right cheek, and soon her face was saturated in hot salty tears.
"What has happened to him? What have I done?" She thought.
She slept off, face and pillow soaked in tears. All of a sudden, she felt a presence around her, like someone was standing close to her. She opened her eyes to meet Ramses's. He had a glass of pineapple juice on rocks in his hand, and the other hand dipped in his pocket.
He had loose black pants on, topped with a black tank top. A silver chain ran down his neck to his chest and his index finger glittered which meant he had a ring on it.
"Ramses?" She questioned.
But he didn't reply. He only stood, sipping his juice while looking down at her. The look in his eyes portrayed disgust & superiority.
"Um.. do you wanna talk?"
He didn't respond to that either, only sat on a nearby chair, leg crossed & two fingers on his temple.
"This is a good sign" she thought.
"How are you?"
Silence.
"I'm sorry"
Silence.
"Ramses please....."
"Why?" He finally spoke.
"I don't know! I was just blinded by something I thought was love and i..."
"Why, did you come back?" He cut her off & questioned.
"I realized my mistake" she blurted amid tears.
"Why?" He asked again.
"I just told you Ramses! I just wanna right my wrongs!!" At this point, tears had begun rolling down her cheeks.
Ramses put his leg down, placed his drink aside, leaned forward & in a commanding voice asked again.
"WHY?"
She ran her fingers through her hair, clenched on her head tightly & squealed.
"Why? Why? Why? Why?...??." The word echoed in her head as she sobbed thoroughly.
"Ramses please!!!...." then she woke up.
Eyes wet and hair scuffled, she woke up to an empty room. Her head hurt and so did her throat. Strange. Could the dream be real? What could this mean?
"Probably just my brain playing pranks". She thought.
She hopped out of bed and gazed into the mirror on the wardrobe. Her eyes were swollen and her lips were so dry. "Well that was one hell of a nightmare. A bittersweet one" she said to herself.
