The next day, Brenda was curious about what Desmond told her the previous day. She wondered what he probably wanted to tell her. Could it be about Tasha or about the group work. Well whatever it was he wanted to tell her shouldn't bother her much should it??.

" What is really wrong with me this days. I am always thinking of Desmond. Could it be that am in love with him?!. Never, I can't be thinking of such things now. The only thing that should be on my mind should be my studies and nothing more. She was not done thinking when Desmond interrupted her thoughts.

" Hey Brenda. Where have you been?. I have been looking for you since.""

" Really. Well I have been here for some minutes now."".

" Ok. I hope you are fine and I hope nobody is bullying you "".

" Don't worry about me am fine. You said you wanted to tell me something. So am all ears"".

" wow. It looks like someone is curious to hear what I have to say. What if I tell you that I have changed my mind about it"

" And how do you think it will have any effect on me"??. Brenda asked

" Sorry miss Brenda I was just pulling your legs. So I wanted to ask you if you can be my partner for the valentine's day coming up the day after tomorrow.""

" Desmond I know you are joking right now please stop it. What happened to Tasha"???.

" Did I tell you that I didn't know that Tasha was existing before I asked you? look Brenda I really like you a lot. I don't want to use the word love because I don't want to scare you away from me. I have really studied you and I've gotten to understand the kind of person you are. You are beautiful, intelligent and well behaved. I don't care about your financial status. I just want you to trust me Brenda and I promise to make you happy.""

" Happy?. Did you just say happy. Do you know the pain you will make me pass through If I agree to be your partner??".

" Pain??. how will I make you pass through pain Brenda??."".

" You and I know very well that Tasha like s you and she's willing to do anything just to get you. Do you know what she would do to me if she finds out that am the partner of the guy she has being crushing on?"".

" Look Desmond. I have had enough troubles already.I don't want to get into trouble with anyone. Please let me be and I will advise you to look for another partner and not me"..

" Really.? are you just using Tasha as excuse or you are scared of something else. I know you like me Brenda but you are scared.""

" No I don't. I mean I just like you as a friend and nothing else."

" ok why don't you look into my eyes and tell me that you hate me then". Desmond was still speaking when Brenda stood up and wanted to leave

" I know it will take you time. But don't worry, I will wait for you"". Desmond managed to say before Brenda finally left.

Tasha on the other hand, was busy discussing with her friends of how the valentine's day would be.

" So Fender who will be your partner for Valentine's day""?.

" oh please don't bring that topic. I haven't seen any girl am cool with in this school so am a partner alone. Or do you wish to be my partner?""

"" Never!!. You know I can't be partner with you cause I want Desmond to be my partner".

" Why?. Am I not handsome enough for you.Why are you so obsessed with this Desmond of a boy."??.

" Can you stop being ridiculous?. And mind you,am not obsessed with Desmond. I just admire him that's all ".

" Ok miss Juliet. I hope your Romeo will not disappoint you." Fender said and they all busted out in laughter

" No he won't. I trust him". Tasha said blushing then she stood up to go and look for Desmond and she finally found him in the library.

" Hey Desmond. what's up". she asked

" Am cool Tasha. what do you want this time around?"".

" c'mon Desmond I thought we have gotten over this long ago.Don't tell me you are angry with me"

" Can you just stop beating around the bush and go straight to the point"?.

" Look Desmond let's just forget about whatever might have happened in the past and open a new chapter. You know valentine is the day after tomorrow right?'. I want us to be partners".

" Am sorry to disappoint you but I already have someone else".

" And who could that be. That Brenda of a girl right?. Just forget about that girl with rags, She can't even buy you a pen not to talk of an expensive gift for the valentine so why don't you just forget about her".

" What you don't know is that Brenda has what you do not have. She has a very good character unlike you that is selfish and is always willing to go to any length just to get what you want. And don't you ever think of hurting Brenda again because if you do so I will hate you more".

Tasha was pained but she had no other option than to leave. Why didn't Desmond recognize her. Was she not beautiful enough?. What did he see in Brenda that he didn't see in her.??. All this she asked wondering what her friends would say if she informed them about the news.

The next day in school was a busy one as everyone was preparing for the valentine's party. Everyone seemed to be in high spirits as they looked for partners. Desmond was not quite happy about it but he decided to ask Brenda again if she had changed her mind about what they discussed the previous day.

" Hey Miss Brenda. How's preparation for tomorrow.".

" It's going well and yours?.

" It's not fine and you know you are the cause of it. Look Brenda the only thing that makes me happy is being with you. please accept to be my partner for tomorrow please"".?

" And what do I stand to gain at the end. trouble, pain and lots more?!"".

" No Brenda. nobody is troubling you. please just accept to be my partner".

" come back tomorrow for your answer" Brenda managed to say.
