The Hidden Truth in The Past

Narrator's POV     Nova was on this little train day dreaming on how she got to this point in her life, on her way off the coast of California to a little island for another foster family. While Nova was listening to her music to tune everything out, while she was staring out the window the scenery started to become blurry and she started to think back to when her life came to a crashing halt, of were it all started.      Nova has been in foster care since her and her parents got into a car crash when she was eight. Her parents didn't make it, they were dead on sight. Nova went threw the windshield with glass all over her body. She woke up on the ground not remembering where she was along with what happened, she had amnesia. she was just able to move her head slightly. She was trying to look for her parents, she was so confused on where she was and were they were, she just new she couldn't move. When she saw her parents in the flipped car with their seat belts hanging them there. She tried to scream for her parents to wake up, but they didn't move and Nova couldn't scream nothing came out but a faint whisper. Then she heard the sirens coming and the flashing red and blue light shining though the midnight sky. She had tears burning down her face not able to stop, has she searching her brain on what was happening and why she couldn't move.     Everything is dark, nothing came up not even why they were out driving. She couldn't remember anything not even memories she had before the accident, she just new who her parents were. Then the sirens were starting to get loud and this cop running to her side right in her view so she wouldn't see the bad. Then the officer tired to talk to Nova, it first sounded muffled then it started to become clear.  "Hey kiddo, relax okay don't move alright. The ambulance is gonna be here any second you're gonna be okay, just don't move just incase anything in broken okay. So I need you to stay awake and listen to my voice for me alright, can you shake your head yes if you can here me please." So She shook her head a little to let him know she was listening. Then the officer continued to talk to her and she kept her eyes open still shredding a tear here and there in pain. Then the paramedics came and wrapped her neck in a neck brace and put her on the Gurnee  and in the ambulance to the hospital and the officer came with her and never let her side so she wouldn't be alone. She started to black out and she had a hard time breathing while they were on the way to the hospital. The paramedics were doing so much to keep her alive and they did. The hospital ended up having to put a tube down her throat to help her breath while she was in a coma. Nova then woke up weeks later choking and the nurses run in to help take the tube out. There was this person crying in the room she couldn't see clearly everything was blurry but they person next to her seemed familiar. The doctor then came and said some doctor stuff that Nova didn't understand, the only thing she did understand was that a couple of her ribs were broken and bruised and her left arm and left leg was broken. Then said she was in a coma for six weeks. The doctor them faced Nova and asked a couple of questions. "take a breath and relax. You suffered a head trauma and I have to ask what do you remember? You can take a few second to think about it okay."     "I don't know, what's happening, were am I. Please were are my parents I dont know you people please I just want my mom and dad please."  Nora spoke in a whisper almost strenuous voice that hurt her. Nova's face squinted in pain. Then the lady that hasn't left Nova's side, then stood up and spoke softly trying not to cry. "Oh baby girl I'm so sorry. This shouldn't have happened to you do you remember me, my little ladybug" Nova shook her but then stopped and remembers this lady calling her little ladybug and her voice was so familiar and that's when she looked at this lady standing by her bed in tears, Nova looked at her with a little confused on her face and that's when she remembered a name. Then Nova spoke with a small shaky voice again. "wait you sound familiar, Auntie kel." Nova could never fully say Kelly's full name but when she said that she took Nova's hand and started to cry even more. That's when the doctor butted in. "That's good it looks like your memory is limited to people you know very well, I'm guessing from every day people since you only remember your parent and your aunt. We don't know if its long term or short term, if they will ever comeback. The mind is a mystery to us sometimes." "Where are my parent please I just want to see them." Nova interrupted and that's when the doctor looked at my aunt and then back to me and started of very slowly. "You were in a very bad car accident, you went through the windshield you are very lucky you are alive right know you are a miracle you were even awake. But your parents sweaty, I'm sorry they didn't make it they past away from the accident." That's when Nova stopped everything, stopped talking and showing emotion her face went numb and she just stared off into nothing. Then her aunt started to talk. "Nova baby please talk to me what's going through your head please baby." Her aunt tried to make Nova look at her and then ran her hand through her hair worried about her. Nova didn't move a mussel or say anything.  "She might not speak for awhile she's in shock." The doctor spoke Then her aunt just nodded her head letting the doctor she understood and hugged Nova so tight not wanting to let the only family she had left go. The doctor wanted to keep Nova in the hospital for a week with her broken bones and the head trauma she suffered from the accident. By then Nova was still not speaking, instead she was drawing and writing letters to her aunt. She'd only wrote to her aunt never the doctors. Her Aunt Kelly would try to talk to her, tell her stories about her parents and how they were high school sweethearts. Kelly thought it might help her with keeping her parents alive in Nova's thoughts so that she wouldn't forget them. By the time Nova was ready to leave she still wouldn't let Kelly to touch them she would freak out when she tried to see them. The doctors told her aunt that it might be PTSD from the accident and from losing her memory. So she decided she would try to get closer by letting her figure her own way to her, that she can figure out that her ant can be her safe place. It took her awhile to see that happen, right around five weeks. Her aunt was helping Nova with her casts and Nova started to feel safe around her again and she started to say a few words here and there like thank you and goodnight, then it started to grow from there. But she wouldn't talk  to anyone else Nova refused to talk. She wouldn't even talk to the other kids she'd just keep her head down and draw or she would hide behind her Aunt when they tried to talk to her. Nova was scared from hearing complete strangers that her parents were dead and she couldn't even remember what happened.      It's been five months and Nova was just about to go back to school along with having her birthday. It was the middle of the year know so Kelly thought it was a good idea to start home schooling but she also wanted Nova to have friend and talk to more people other then just her it worried her. Nova was really scared to go to school full of people and kids she didn't know so her Aunt Kelly decided to take her shopping for her birthday for a new wardrobe for school along with new backpack and pencils just to get her comfortable. Then they went to her favorite place to eat, this little dinner called Sandy's diner. After all the shopping is done It was time for a movie to end the night by the middle of the movie Nova was asleep and Kelly picked her up and tucked her into bed.      Nova always had trouble sleeping so she was in a very light sleep were she could hear everything. Right around two in the morning were Nova heard some scrambling noises but Nova was too sleepy to see what it was, Nova just thought her aunt was cleaning or working she tends to do her work at night when Nova is sleeping. So Nova just went back to sleep. She thought that if it was something bad her aunt would scream or yell out.     Monday morning the light from the window woke Nova up, which she thought was weird that her Aunt Kelly didn't come and wake her up for school. So Nova turned to look at here clock and it read 10:30 am. Nova was so confused and thought maybe Aunt Kel changed her mind about her being home schooled. So Nova got up and out of her room looking for her aunt. When nova looked around there apartment with a smile on her face but her aunt was no where and Nova thought that maybe her Aunt over slept so she went to her Aunts room and found her bed all made like she never slept it in. It was scaring her. Her aunt would never leave her alone with out telling Nova or even taking her with her so Nova started to scream her name out. "AUNT KEL! KELS WERE ARE YOU!"     Nothing there was nothing not a sound. Nova searched everywhere for her aunt but they lived in a small apartment there weren't many places to around. So she then looked out the window were her aunt parked the car and it was still here.      Nova was getting a really bad feeling so Nova rushed to her room and got a pen and paper and wrote the words......                                     'PLEASE  HELP ME. My aunt is missing and I dont know were she is.                                  She would never leave me alone and I'm only nine years old please call 911                                    and tell them were I am. And my aunt is missing. PLEASE HELP ME!'     Nova then took the note and went to her next door neighbors, she nocked on a lot of doors till someone opened them and this young couple opened there door and read the letter and called 911. They took her back to her apartment and tried to talk to Nova while they waited for the officers to show up, but Nova never said a word she still never talked to anyone but her aunt Nova just stared off into space thinking of what is happening. Then the police showed up doing there thing, investigating what happened and it looked like there was no forced entry and no sign of a kidnapping just a missing aunt. They also spoke to the couple staying with Nova and they gave the police the letter and they were told to go back to there apartment and they will be called if they have any further questions. This cop tired to talk with Nova to get her to answer some questions before child protective services came. "Hey Nova. It's Nova right, my name is Danny" Nova just nodded saying her name was nova. "Okay not a big talker huh? sometimes my kid isn't a big talker either. So how about yes or no questions? Will that be okay?" Nova nodded yes again and Danny smiled from it. "Okay so do you live with your aunt?" yes "Alright was she here last night." yes "Does she work? would she be at work right know?" Nova shook her head no and she then walked out to the window were you can see her aunt car and Nova pointed to it. The cop looked down and asked. "Is that your aunts car?"     He then sent his partner down to check it out and at that time the CPS came in the apartment. Nova wanted to talk but she was to scared and its been so long since she spoken. The social worker that came to help was the same one that helped her aunt fill out the paperwork for guardian ship. She then explained Nova's situation to officer Danny and she explained she would never leave Nova and its just not in her character.      Then a year past and Nova was put into foster care but they never found any information on were her aunt could be and it was labeled just a disappearance and an open case. When they told Nova this she new what they really were thinking that her aunt couldn't take the heat of raising a child and abandoned her. But Nova new after all she's been threw she wouldn't do that. That something happened to her and as soon as she was able to search for her she will. Ever since then Nova's been in foster care since she was nine. Nothing changed in foster care, she never spoke to anyone and she was never adopted. She moved from home to home, she never stayed in one place for more than a year.      That is why Nova is on a train and soon on a boat to a small island for a last foster home, at least that was Nova's hope. Nova was sixteen and she was going to try her hardest to stay in one place till she's finally aged out. Nova's been abused mentally and physically, assaulted and eventually would get kicked out for no reason. The foster families  always would get rid of her when she got to comfy for there liking or they got bored of throwing her around.     Nova never grew out of being the silent type, she was always know as the silent foster girl who sat alone and never had any friends. No one could get close enough to or they actually just got bored of trying. She wouldn't even talk to her social worker and they had lots of visits from teachers calling in for random bruises they would see and they moved her because of it.     Her memory got interrupted by the train coming to a stop, she then turned her music off and got ready to take off. The boat was gonna leave in a few minutes so she had to hurry.  Nova didn't want to get kicked out before she even got a chance to try and stay. She rushed her way to the boat and made it last minute. She went to the top level with her trash bag with all her stuff and she was on her way to her new home till she could go on her own to find a place of her own and search for her lost aunt that she still had hope for would still be alive.
