If You're Not The One
In a City called Millfield, there was a girl named Madison. She was known as the mean girl in their school, always rude to everyone and never cared about anyone's feelings. Madison was the most popular girl in school, but she didn't have any real friends. One day, a new boy named Jake moved to Millfield. He was the complete opposite of Madison - kind, caring, and always willing to help others. Jake quickly made friends with everyone in school, except Madison. Jake knew about Madison's reputation, but he didn't let it stop him from trying to befriend her. He would always try to strike up a conversation with her, but Madison would just ignore him or say something mean. One day, Jake decided to confront Madison about her behavior. "Why are you always so mean to everyone?" he asked her. Madison shrugged. "I don't care about anyone else's feelings. I only care about myself." Jake shook his head. "That's not a way to live your life. You should try being kind to others. It might make you feel better." Madison rolled her eyes. "I don't need your advice. Just leave me alone." Despite Madison's coldness, Jake continued to try and befriend her. He would always compliment her and try to make her laugh. Slowly but surely, Madison started to open up to him. "I don't know why you bother with me," Madison said to Jake one day. "I'm not worth your time." Jake smiled. "Everyone is worth my time. I just want to be your friend." Madison didn't know how to react to Jake's kindness. She had never had a real friend before, and she didn't know how to act around him. As the weeks went by, Madison and Jake became closer and closer. They would hang out after school and talk about their hopes and dreams. Madison started to realize that she didn't want to be the mean girl anymore. She wanted to be a better person, like Jake. One day, Madison decided to do something nice for Jake. She baked him a cake and left it on his doorstep with a note that read, "Thank you for being my friend." Jake was touched by Madison's gesture. He knew that she had come a long way from the girl who had ignored him when he first moved to Millfield. A few weeks later, Madison and Jake went to the school J's prom night together. Madison had never felt so happy in her life. She was finally starting to understand the joy that comes from being kind to others. As they danced together, Madison leaned in and whispered to Jake, "I think I'm falling in love with you." Jake smiled and took her hand. "I'm falling in love with you too." For the rest of the night, Madison and Jake danced together and laughed like they had never laughed before. Madison felt like she had finally found someone who understood her and accepted her for who she was. But just as Madison was starting to feel like everything was perfect, a plot twist occurred. Jake's ex-girlfriend, Emily, moved back to Millfield. Emily and Jake had dated for a year before she moved away, and they had never really gotten over each other. Emily saw Jake and Madison at the school dance and knew that she had to get him back. She started talking to Jake more and more, trying to win him over with her charm and beauty. Madison realized that something was off between Jake and Emily, but she tried to ignore it. One day, Madison saw Jake and Emily at a coffee shop, holding hands and laughing. Madison felt her heart break into a million pieces. She had never felt so hurt in her life. Madison tried to confront Jake about Emily, but he just told her that they were friends and that there was nothing to worry about. Madison knew that he was lying, but she didn't want to lose him. Weeks went by, and Madison could feel Jake slipping away from her. He stopped calling and texting her as often, and he seemed distant whenever they were together. One day, Madison decided to confront Emily. "Why are you trying to steal Jake away from me?" she asked. Emily shrugged. "I'm not trying to steal him away. He's just my friend." Madison didn't believe her. She knew that Emily still had feelings for Jake, and she was trying to win him back. As Madison walked home from the coffee shop, she saw Jake waiting for her outside her house. "We need to talk," he said. Madison's heart sank. She knew what was coming. "Are you breaking up with me?" she asked. Jake looked down at the ground. "I'm sorry, Madison. I still have feelings for Emily. I can't be with you anymore." Madison felt like her world was falling apart. She had never felt so alone. "Why did you lead me on like this?" she asked. Jake looked up at her, tears in his eyes. "I didn't mean to hurt you. I really care about you, Madison. But I can't help how I feel." Madison knew that she had to let Jake go. She couldn't force him to love her. She walked away from him, tears streaming down her face. For the next few weeks, Madison felt like she was in a fog. She didn't know how to move on from Jake. She spent most of her time alone, feeling sorry for herself. One day, Madison decided to take a walk through the park. As she was walking, she saw a little girl crying on a bench. Madison went over to her and asked her what was wrong. The little girl told Madison that she had lost her teddy bear. Madison spent the next hour helping the little girl look for her teddy bear. When they finally found it, the little girl hugged Madison and thanked her. Madison realized that helping others made her feel better. She started volunteering at the local animal shelter and spending more time with her family. She realized that there was more to life than just being popular and having a boyfriend. Months went by, and Madison started to feel like herself again. She had made new friends and had discovered a passion for helping others. She had moved on from Jake and was ready to start a new chapter in her life. One day, Madison was walking through the park when she saw Jake sitting on a bench, looking sad. She went over to him and asked him what was wrong. Jake looked up at her, tears in his eyes. "I'm sorry, Madison. I made a mistake. I should have never left you for Emily." Madison looked at him, surprised. "Why are you telling me this now?" Jake took a deep breath. "Emily and I broke up. She realized that she still had feelings for her ex-boyfriend, and she couldn't be with me anymore." Madison didn't know how to respond. She had spent the last two years trying to move on from Jake, and now he was standing in front of her, telling her that he had made a mistake. Part of her wanted to forgive him and start over, but another part of her was still hurt by what he had done to her. "I don't know what to say, Jake," Madison finally said. "I'm happy that you realized your mistake, but it's been two years. I've moved on." "I know, and I don't expect you to forgive me right away," Jake said. "But I just needed to tell you how I feel. I still love you, Madison. I never stopped loving you." Madison looked into Jake's eyes and saw the sincerity in them. She knew that he meant every word he was saying, but she also knew that it would take time to rebuild the trust that had been broken. "I need time to think about this, Jake," Madison said. "I can't just forgive you overnight." "I understand," Jake said. "Take all the time you need. I just wanted to tell you how I feel and apologize for what I did." Madison nodded, and Jake walked away, leaving her alone with her thoughts. She didn't know what the future held, but she knew that she needed to take things slow and see where things went from here. Over the next few days, Madison spent a lot of time reflecting on her relationship with Jake. She thought about the good times they had shared and the reasons why she had fallen in love with him in the first place. She also thought about the mistakes that had led to their breakup and how they could avoid making the same mistakes in the future. Despite her reservations, Madison decided to give Jake another chance. She called him and they met up for coffee. They talked for hours, working through their past issues and discussing their hopes for the future. By the end of the conversation, they both felt like they were on the same page. Over the next few weeks, Madison and Jake started dating again. They took things slow, rebuilding their relationship one step at a time. They went on dates, talked about their feelings, and worked on building trust and communication. As they spent more time together, Madison realized that she was falling in love with Jake all over again. She saw the changes he had made and appreciated the effort he was putting into their relationship. She felt like they were stronger than ever before. One day, Jake surprised Madison by taking her on a hike to a beautiful lookout point. As they stood there, overlooking the breathtaking view, Jake got down on one knee and asked Madison to marry him. Madison was overjoyed and said yes immediately. From that day forward, Madison and Jake were inseparable. They worked together to build a happy, healthy, and loving relationship. They knew that they had been through some tough times, but they were grateful for the challenges that had brought them closer together. After their college graduation, they began planning their wedding and everything seemed perfect. Madison was thrilled to be marrying the love of her life, and she couldn't wait to spend the rest of her days with him. As the day of their wedding approached, Madison's best friend, Sarah, started to act strangely. Madison couldn't quite put her finger on it, but something was definitely off. On the day of the wedding, Madison was getting ready with her bridesmaids when Sarah pulled her aside. "Madison, we need to talk," Sarah said, looking serious. "What is it, Sarah?" Madison asked, concerned. "I don't know how to tell you this, but Jake has been cheating on you," Sarah said, her voice trembling. Madison's heart sank. "What are you talking about? That can't be true. Jake would never do that to me." "I'm sorry, Madison, but it's true. I found out a few weeks ago and I didn't know how to tell you. But you deserve to know the truth," Sarah said, tears streaming down her face. Madison was devastated. She couldn't believe that the man she loved could do something like this. She confronted Jake, and at first, he denied it. But eventually, he broke down and admitted the truth. "I'm so sorry, Madison. I never meant to hurt you," Jake said, tears in his eyes. "I'm only marrying you because my family's company is in trouble. We need the help of your family's company to stay afloat." Madison was heartbroken. She couldn't believe that the man she loved was only using her for her family's money. She called off the wedding and ended things with Jake. But in a strange twist of fate, Madison's family ended up buying out Jake's family's company and saving it from bankruptcy. Madison and Jake never got back together, but they were forced to interact with each other on a professional level. It was a painful reminder of what could have been, but Madison knew that she had made the right decision. She deserved someone who loved her for who she was, not for her family's money. As she sat in the coffee shop lost in thought, a familiar voice interrupted her reverie. "Madison? Is that really you?" the voice said. Madison looked up to see a man standing in front of her. It took her a moment to recognize him, but then she realized it was Jack, a boy from her childhood who she had lost touch with over the years. "Jack! Oh my god It's been a while" Madison said, standing up to give him a hug. "It really has," Jack said, returning the hug. "I can't believe it's really you. You're so very mean to me, I can't believe you're talking to me now" They sat down at a nearby table and caught up on old times. Jack told her about his life since they had last seen each other, and Madison shared some stories of her own. Eventually, the conversation turned more serious. Jack took a deep breath and looked at Madison with an intensity she hadn't seen before. "Madison, there's something I need to tell you," he said. "What is it?" Madison asked, suddenly feeling a little uneasy. "I've been in love with you since we were in highschool and college," Jack said, looking down at his hands. Madison was taken aback. She had no idea that Jack had felt that way about her. "I had no idea, Jack. I'm sorry," Madison said, feeling guilty for never having realized it. "It's okay," Jack said, looking up at her. "I know it's weird, but you were always my motivation. I wanted to be successful so I could be worthy of you." Madison didn't know what to say. She was touched that Jack had felt that way about her, but also a little uncomfortable. She didn't want to lead him on. "I'm sorry, Jack. I had no idea. But I hope you can understand that I don't feel the same way," Madison said gently. Jack nodded, looking a little dejected. "I understand, Madison. I just had to tell you how I feel. It's been eating me up inside for years," Jack said. "I'm glad you told me, Jack. And I'm glad we ran into each other today," Madison said, trying to lighten the mood. "Who knows, maybe we can catch up again sometime soon." Jack smiled, a little more at ease now. "I'd like that, Madison. It's good to see you again," Jack said, standing up to leave. Madison watched him go, feeling a mix of emotions. She was happy to have seen Jack again, but also a little sad for him. She hoped he would find someone who loved him back just as much as he loved her. Madison was relieved when her conversation with Jack had distracted her from her thoughts for a while. But as she stepped out of the coffee shop and walked towards the parking lot, she could feel her anxiety creeping back up. It was getting dark, and she didn't feel safe walking alone. As she searched for her car, she noticed a man lurking nearby. He was leering at her and making inappropriate comments. Madison tried to ignore him and walked faster, but he followed her. "Hey pretty lady, where are you going in such a hurry?" the man said, grabbing her arm. Madison tried to pull away, but the man's grip was too strong. "Let go of me!" she yelled. But the man just laughed and pulled her closer. Madison's heart was pounding with fear. Just then, Jack appeared out of nowhere and punched the man in the face. The man stumbled backwards, stunned. "Leave her alone," Jack growled. The man looked at Jack, then at Madison, and ran away. Madison was shaking with fear and gratitude. "Thank you, Jack. You saved me," she said, tears in her eyes. Jack put his arm around her and led her to her car. "Are you okay?" he asked, concern etched on his face. Madison nodded, still trembling. "I am now. Thank you, Jack. I don't know what I would have done without you," she said, hugging him. "Anytime, Madison. I'll always be here for you," Jack said, hugging her back. Madison felt safe in Jack's arms. She realized that he had always been there for her, even when she didn't know it. She knew that she could count on him, no matter what happened. "Thank you, Jack. You're a true friend," she said, wiping away her tears. Jack smiled, and Madison knew that everything was going to be okay. They got into her car, and Jack made sure she was buckled in before he closed the door. "Drive safe, Madison. And call me if you need anything," he said, waving as she drove away. Madison knew that Jack was right. She could always count on him. She felt lucky to have such a good friend in her life. Over the next few weeks, Jack and Madison spent more and more time together. They went to concerts, movies, and even took a road trip to the beach. Madison enjoyed spending time with Jack. He was always thoughtful, kind, and funny. But she still didn't feel the same way about him as he did about her. One day, Jack took Madison on a picnic in the park. They sat on a blanket, enjoying the warm sunshine and each other's company. "Madison, there's something I need to tell you," Jack said, looking at her with a serious expression. "What is it?" Madison asked, a little nervous. "I know I've already told you how I feel about you, but I just can't help it. I can't stop thinking about you, Madison. You're always on my mind," Jack said, taking her hand. Madison felt a pang of guilt. She knew how much Jack cared about her, but she just didn't feel the same way. "Jack, I care about you too. You're one of my oldest friends, and I appreciate everything you've done for me. But I just don't think of you in that way," Madison said gently. Jack's face fell, and Madison could see the hurt in his eyes. "I understand, Madison. I just had to tell you how I feel. I want to be honest with you," Jack said, trying to keep his voice steady. "I appreciate your honesty, Jack. And I hope we can still be friends," Madison said, putting a hand on his shoulder. Jack nodded, but Madison could tell he was disappointed. She felt bad for hurting him, but she knew she couldn't force herself to feel something she didn't. As they packed up their picnic and headed back to the car, Madison couldn't help but feel a little sad. She had always hoped that she and Jack could be more than friends, but it just wasn't meant to be. But Jack was persistent. He continued to try to win her heart over the next few months. He brought her flowers, wrote her love letters, and even serenaded her on her birthday. Madison appreciated his efforts. She knew that she would always cherish their friendship, but she was just afraid of being hurt again. Eventually, Jack realized that he had to let go of his feelings for Madison. It wasn't easy, but he knew that he couldn't force her to love him. He valued their friendship too much to risk losing it. And so, Jack and Madison remained close friends, supporting each other through all of life's ups and downs. Fast forward to their college reunion, Madison was excited to see all of her old friends, including Jack. When she arrived at the party, she scanned the room for familiar faces and spotted Jack standing near the stage. "Madison! It's so great to see you!" Jack exclaimed as he gave her a hug. "You too, Jack," Madison replied, smiling. "I'm glad that you're here" As the night went on, Madison and Jack caught up on each other's lives. Madison couldn't help but notice how handsome Jack looked in his suit and tie. As she continued to steal glances at him, she noticed the way his hair was neatly combed to the side, the sharpness of his jawline, and the way his broad shoulders filled out his suit jacket. Madison couldn't help but imagine what it would feel like to be wrapped in his arms. But it wasn't just his physical appearance that had her heart racing. It was the way he carried himself, with confidence and ease. She admired the way he interacted with others, always polite and charming. Suddenly, the music stopped and Jack walked up to the stage with a guitar in his hand. Madison's heart skipped a beat when she realized what was happening. "Good evening, everyone," Jack began, adjusting the microphone. "I'd like to dedicate this song to a very special person in my life. Madison, this one's for you." Madison's eyes widened in surprise as Jack started to strum the chords of "If You're Not the One" by Daniel Bedingfield. She listened as Jack sang the lyrics with passion and emotion, pouring his heart out to her. Author's Note: Please play this song while reading to be more realistic. If you're not the one then why does my soul feel glad today? If you're not the one then why does my hand fit yours this way? If you are not mine then why does your heart return my call? If you are not mine would I have the strength to stand at all? I never know what the future brings, But I know you are here with me now, We'll make it through, And I hope you are the one I share my life with I don't want to run away but I can't take it, I don't understand, If I'm not made for you then why does my heart tell me that I am? Is there any way that I can stay in your arms? If I don't need you then why am I crying on my bed? If I don't need you then why does your name resound in my head? If you're not for me then why does this distance m**m my life? If you're not for me then why do I dream of you as my wife? I don't know why you're so far away, But I know that this much is true, We'll make it through, And I hope you are the one I share my life with, And I wish that you could be the one I die with, And I pray in you're the one I build my home with, I hope I love you all my life I don't want to run away but I can't take it , I don't understand, If I'm not made for you then why does my heart tell me that I am? Is there any way that I can stay in your arms? 'Cause I miss you body and soul so strong that it takes my breath away, And I breathe you into my heart and pray for the strength to stand today, 'Cause I love you, whether it's wrong or right, And though I can't be with you tonight, You know my heart is by your side I don't want to run away but I can't take it, I don't understand, If I'm not made for you then why does my heart tell me that I am? Is there any way I can stay in your arms? As the song ended, Jack got down on one knee in front of Madison. "Madison, I know we've been through a lot over the years, but I've never stopped loving you. Will you be my girlfriend?" Jack asked, holding out a small box with a ring inside. Tears streamed down Madison's face as she nodded and said, "Yes, Jack. Of course, I will be your girlfriend." The crowd erupted in cheers as Jack slipped the ring onto Madison's finger and pulled her into a loving embrace. Madison knew that this was the start of a new chapter in their lives together. As Madison and Jack walked back to their table, Madison noticed that Jake was giving them a cold stare. She could tell that he was jealous of their relationship. "Hey, Madison, can we talk for a minute?" Jake asked, approaching her. "Sure, Jake," Madison replied, trying to keep the conversation casual. Jake pulled Madison to the side and whispered, "I can't believe you're with him. He's not good enough for you." Madison felt a pang of frustration rise in her chest. She couldn't believe that Jake was trying to ruin her happiness. "Jake, I appreciate your concern, but Jack is the one I love. He's always been there for me, and he's never given up on me. I'm happy with him," Madison said firmly. Jake looked taken aback, but Madison stood her ground. She wasn't going to let Jake's jealousy ruin her night. "Okay, I understand," Jake said, looking down at his feet. "I just want you to be happy, Madison." "I am happy, Jake," Madison said, placing a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "I hope you can be happy for me too." Jake nodded, and Madison could tell that he was still processing his emotions. She knew that it would take time for him to accept her relationship with Jack, but she hoped that he would eventually come around. As the night went on, Madison and Jack danced together, laughing and enjoying each other's company. Madison knew that she had made the right choice in choosing Jack, and she was grateful for his love and support. She was excited for their future together and couldn't wait to see what lay ahead.
