Chapter002

LUCINDA GILLS A loud squeaking of the cartwheels pulled me from my dreamless sleep. I was dazed at first as I struggled to remember where I was. It didn't take too long for me to remember what happened. When I did remember, I sat up and tapped beside me, feeling the grain of rice through the sack. I couldn't believe I had fallen asleep so easily. I recalled Helena with a tight sensation in my chest, I was going to miss her. Right from the time of my birth she has risked her entire life just to save mine. I was pulled out of my reverie as I felt the cart slow down. I knew someone would come round the back soon and if they found me here, it would not look good for me. I jumped down from the cart before any of this could happen and winced in pain as my feet touched the ground. I had quite forgotten that I had injured myself while running away from my pack. After jumping from the cart, I looked up and saw several people troding the place all with a look of determination on their faces, determination to get to their destination. I sighed, thinking about where I would go. Even if Helena's friend helped me for a while, I would still have to figure out how to survive her. I looked around me until I spotted a sign that read ‘New York.’ So I was in New York? What next? I didn’t know anything about the place. I had only lived in my pack since birth. I suddenly felt a heavy feeling of being utterly lost. I quickly looked up to the sun, it was a familiar thing. I was able to note the time from its position in the sky. It was already evening. It was already getting late, yet this place was still so busy. What sort of place was this? It had so many people that I couldn’t help but to already feel lost even before I had taken a single step. I couldn’t stay in one place, so I started moving. My entire body felt numb as I walked on. My muscles were sore from all the running and I felt stiff as I walked on. But I didn’t want to stop walking. If I stopped walking then I would have to face the truth that I saw in these busy streets. I had lost everything and I was far from home. No, in truth I had no home any longer. But as I walked on the streets, I had no idea where to go. I had no one left. So what would I do? Then the image of Gamma Helena slipping something into my pocket flashed through my mind. I stopped walking suddenly as my eyes widened, then I stuffed my hand into my pocket as quickly as possible. But my throat tightened as I didn’t feel anything in my pocket. Panic slowly set in as I search through my entire body. Where was it!? I searched for five whole minutes but I couldn’t find anything. The people on the streets simply walked around me, only a few of them gave the occasional look of disgust. I finally gave up after I tried retracing my steps back to the cart but the cart had already left and I still hadn’t found any paper. I finally rested against a wall. Still I couldn’t untie the knot that was already on my heart. I lost the last thing that Helena gave me. I felt like crying again. What should I do now? Then I remembered her words. She told me to find her old friend. What was the name again? Silverstone! She said he had a tavern somewhere. Was I in the right town? I had to be. Gamma Helena was the one who told me to hop on one of those carts so she must have known where it was taking me. And more importantly, I simply had to be in the right place because I had no way to go anywhere else. I now had a name and a place, so I moved with new determination. I decided to ask people on the streets. But the people just ignored me and walked around me as if I was an annoying ghost. I was shocked about their behavior. What sort of place was this? I kept trying and I managed to attract the attention of a few people. Those people looked at me with so much disgust that I had to take a step back. I was shocked. It was just like my pack all over again. I wondered why. They shouldn’t know what I am. Then I looked down at myself only to discover just how dirty I was. I gave up on asking people and just wandered the streets myself. I eventually came across a place that had greenery and plants along with soil. The sign above the place said it was a park. I walked in because it was the only familiar thing for me. I sat on a bench and looked into the trees. A feeling of gloom washed over me. What was I going to do now? A soft hand touched my head. I looked up to see a little girl standing in front of me. My heart warmed slightly. I always liked kids. And she was the first person to actually look at me, even without disgust. I smiled at her, but she continued staring flatly. So I made a funny face for her. The girl cracked a smile and started laughing. “Lily. There you are.” A tall man walked over. He wore an overcoat, and his face was covered with a cap. He took the girl's hand, then glanced at me. “Thank you.” He said and walked away with the girl. Not long after I started dozing off on the bench. The soft pattern of rain wakes me up. I felt the drops prickle my skin so I immediately started looking for cover. I wandered a long way in an unknown direction, I completely lost track of where I was going. I was walking and I suddenly felt some resistance from my leg. I looked down only to see that I had just cut a trip wire. What? Before I knew it, people had come out of nowhere and they grabbed my arms. “How dare you trespass on our pack territory?” “You will answer to our Alpha!” I tried struggling but I was taken into the pack. I was pushed to my knees and when I looked up, the Rogue king stood over me.
