“Mate.” My wolf said.

“Mate?” Lucinda asked. Her voice was unsure.

“Mine.” I growled.

In a world where pack loyalty is paramount, 23 years old Lucinda discovers a dark secret about her pack’s alpha that threatens her survival. Forced to flee for her life, she gets caught up with the Lycan King, where her freedom is exchanged for a nanny job.

Lycan King Liam builds his world around his mute daughter, living above a full moon that changed his life. Everything is at stake when he has to choose between his pack and his heart.

With hidden truths unraveled, an ancient shared secret threatened, and an ancient prophecy unfolding, the fate of the werewolf race lies in the hands of Lucinda.

As Lucinda navigates her true identity, she must confront her destiny. If she fails, not only will she lose her freedom, but her entire world fails.

Chapter001
LUCINDA GILLS “Don’t stop Lucinda!” Helena Woods said as she held my hand tightly. I was breathless so I couldn’t talk. I nodded at her. I focused on putting one foot in front of the other. But still my heart beat so fast that I feared it would burst out of my chest. And my lungs burned for air. Helena, my adopted mother mostly looked after me. She was a Gamma while I was only an Omega. I felt the pain of not having a wolf even more which was the cause of all this. I looked back and fear fueled my speed. Behind me I could see wolves with jagged teeth and sharp claws chasing after me hotly. It was in times like this that I felt bad about not having a wolf. It felt impossible that I would out run the wolves snarling and howling behind me. Helena glanced at me again. “We’ll stop here.” She said, her eyes darting about to be sure they were not behind us yet. I stopped immediately. She let go of my hand and I hunched over. I had a strong urge to throw up, but I managed to keep it in. My vision swam. Helena touched my back. “Lucinda.” She said in a low voice. I managed to stand up. I could see the pity in her face. I was used to it. It was either pity or disgust. I was never worthy of anything else. “Hey, they are over there!” A voice called out from behind. My heart skipped. I had been trying to catch my breath, but I was suddenly alert again. They were almost here. Helena turned back with wide eyes. She reached into her pocket and pulled something out. I couldn’t muster the breath to ask what it was so she slipped it into the pocket of my apron. Then she clasped both my shoulders. Helena touched her nose and then touched mine. “Lucinda. I need you to run. I’ll slow them down.” She said, her eyes still darting about. My eyes widened in panic and I struggled to shake my head. But Helena grabbed my head to keep it still. “That paper will guide you to Silverstone. He owns a tavern. He's an old friend.” She hurriedly said. “Stop right there!” A voice called out from behind. I wanted to look but Helena held my head tightly in place. “Aim for a moving cart. I’ll slow them down!” She said, shouting atop her voice to be heard. Tears were already flowing down my face at that point. I managed to say a single no, but Helena ignored it. She finally let go of my face and she pushed me forward. “Run Lucinda! Never forget that I love you.” She said, her tears glinted as they flowed down her face. I shook my head. Helena turned back to face them. Then I turned back and ran. I hated myself the most at that moment. Helena had raised me and I abandoned her. I ran. I didn’t know for how long. The only thing I repeated in my mind was the carts. I needed to find the carts heading north. Soon enough, I started slowing down. I just couldn’t take it anymore. It was simply a miracle that I even made it this far. I was still running when my leg got cut on a stone. I fell and rolled over the hard ground. I lay there for a few seconds, before I mustered the will to get on my knees. I just couldn’t go any more. “Catch her!” The voices of my pack members called again. I turned back and I could see their silhouettes. They would catch me within the minute. If only I could get up. Tears rolled down my eyes. Was this how I would die? I could hear the hoof of horses stamping heavily on the ground. The raised dust as they passed by in a long procession. My eyes brightened. The carts were moving in a straight line, drawn by several strong looking horses. They had to be, they were driving along carts that were sturdy enough to go all the way to Oakwood Town, New York. It rolled over on the tracks that I had not even seen. Then it came to a stop. I quickly got on my feet. Pain flared from my leg. I looked down and saw that I had been injured. The carts rattled again and my pack members shouted. I could make it. I needed to make it. I didn’t want to die. If only I had never seen Alpha Vincent that night. It all started a few days back. I was walk back home at night. It was a usual thing for me to stay out. I needed peace from the ridicule I usually got from the pack. But I spotted my Alpha speaking to the Rogue King. I quickly hid behind a lone den and listened in on their conversation. The Rogue King threatened my Alpha. He was going to take away Alpha Vincent’s powers if he didn’t present him with wolfless virgins before the next full moon. Alpha Vincent promised him to give him what he wanted. But there was only one person who was of age without a wolf at the moment. He mentioned my name. I was so shocked that I gasped too loudly. Young she wolves had been missing for months. I realized that was the truth behind it. Unfortunately, I was far too loud. “Who’s there!?” Alpha Vincent asked with rage. He spotted my shadow. I turned back to run, but I slipped and fell. I heard his footsteps approaching and I quickly stood up to run. But a hard hand grabbed me before I could escape. There was a sharp pain from behind my head and I blacked out. The next time I woke up I realized that I was at the centre of a wooden stage. Several pack guards were surrounding the stage, along with some omegas, Gammas including Gamma Helena. The second one of them saw that my eyes were open, he told the guard next to him and suddenly as one they began mocking me loudly as though all these years of humiliation had not been enough. I searched through their faces, looking for the Rogue King that had wanted to buy me. I hoped that I wouldn't find him here, that he had been frustrated and had left but that was not to be that case. He was there and he was smirking at me, obviously enjoying my misery. My eyes moved through the crowd again, I wanted to cry for help but I was gagged. Then I locked eyes with Gamma Helena who was in the crowd. Just then someone shouted fire and chaos broke out. I was confused as the pack guards ran everywhere. Then someone tapped my back, I turned just to see an axe swinging. I thought I would die just just before Helena broke my chains. She tossed away the fire axe and we escaped together. I got up and looked at the carts. Gamma Helena sacrificed herself to help me escape so I was going to do just that. I was going to survive even though they wanted me dead. This time at least, I was going to ensure that they did not get what they wanted. I ran determined to make it in time before the carts were gone along with any hope I had left. The carts were still moving but I managed to jump on top of one that had sacks of possibly cotton piled up in it. I let out a sigh of relief when I hopped onto the cart. If I had slowed down for even a second, they would have caught me. I allowed myself a smile as I saw the pack guards trying to run after the moving carts.
