LUCINDA GILLS
My captor offered me a job in exchange for my freedom.
I was speechless at first. Why was he doing it?
But after a few seconds of consideration, I decided not to look a gift horse in the mouth.
In truth, I was in an unfamiliar city. I had no college degree and I didn’t know anyone around. There was no way for me to survive in the outside world.
So maybe it wasn’t such a bad idea for me to take the job. And in the worst case, I could escape from the Rogue King later when his guard is dropped.
I accepted the job. That very day I was cleaned up and given a new set of clothes by the maids.
They told me that I would be special in case of the Lycan King’s daughter. And they told me her specifications.
I was surprised about them calling him the Lycan King. He was clearly the Rogue king.
But I forgot to ask when they suddenly told me that Lily was actually mute. I was surprised by the news. I remembered my first encounter with her. I actually didn’t remember her saying a single word.
After my brief orientation, I was pushed to Lily’s bedroom. I felt extremely nervous when I was walking inside there. They warned me that the Lycan King was devoted to his daughter. I could lose my life if I made her cry. If I hurt her then my fate would be a hundred times worse.
When I stepped into the room, Lily watched me wordlessly. My heart beat fast and I greeted her awkwardly. “Hey Lily, remember me?” I asked. She didn’t reply and simply stared at me.
My throat tightened. Did she look like she was about to cry?
I was scared as I moved closer to her bed. But I spotted something on the chair beside her bed. It looked familiar. I moved and picked it up. My eyes widened.
It was a children’s bedtime storybook. I remembered how Helena would read me stories from this book every night before I went to sleep. I was excited to see it again.
“You really have this! You’re really lucky!” I laughed. Those were some of my best memories.
“Do you want to hear a story?” I asked. When I looked up, Lily was nodding enthusiastically. I smiled and started telling her the story of the wolf and rabbits that became friends. I felt extremely good and Lily was actually smiling.
I was actually enjoying myself!
Then the door opened. He stepped inside and my heart skipped a beat. I tripped on my words, but I quickly regained my momentum in fear of my life. Lily saw this and giggled. I was happy that she didn’t cry at least. But I couldn’t relax.
He hadn’t seemed evil to me so far, but how could I trust that?
He just stared silently at us. He turned to leave when another voice suddenly appeared in the room. Lily immediately hid under her bedsheets.
I turned to see an impossible scene.
Two rogue Kings stood in front of me. And one had just materialized out of the shadows. Was I hallucinating?
The impostor called him brother and Liam.
Then it suddenly hit me. Liam was the Lycan King while Dexter was the Rogue King! They looked alike so I had made a stupid mistake.
They turned to me as I called attention to myself. I wanted to hide at that moment.
But Liam came to my rescue. “Leave now before you start a war you can’t finish.” He warned Dexter. Dexter didn’t take it well. He glared at Liam before he finally gave up. “Fine.” He said before vanishing.
Liam told me to leave the room immediately and he went to his daughter.
I walked out in a daze. What did I just witness?
So they were two different people?
......
LIAM WRIGHT
A beautiful full moon shone over my pack.
I shifted and went on my weekly hunt. I wanted to relax. My brother snuck into my pack a few days ago and scared my daughter. I had to restrain myself from immediately starting a war to destroy his pitiful pack of rogues.
But on the brighter side, Lucinda had been able to calm Lily down the days after that. I had never seen Lily smile so often.
I shifted and my mind blurred into my wolves. My hunt was a blissful moment under the light of the moon. I felt free of all my constraints as the Lycan King and I sprinted wildly.
Then I caught a mysterious scent. I was intrigued and I decided to follow it.
I was slightly surprised when it led back to my pack, but I didn’t stop. I couldn’t stop at that point. As the scent got stronger, I found that I lost all my ability to resist following it.
I was shocked when it led me back to my own home.
With my farsighted vision, I could see my daughter’s room. Lucinda tucked her under her sheets. She had already fallen asleep with a faint smile.
The scent came from somewhere close by. My eyes followed Lucinda as she left my daughter’s room. I expected her to head to her own quarters, but to my surprise she left the house and walked outside.
That was allowed because I had guards at the pack borders. But I was surprised because I was also outside.
I was hidden in the darkness and Lucinda unknowingly walked towards me.
My body shook as the scent suddenly intensified.
I stepped out of the darkness and moved towards her in my wolf form. She stopped in her tracks and yelped as she saw me.
I didn’t notice her shock as I came to a realization. The scent was coming from her, and it was insanely potent now
My wolf completely took over my mind and I felt a resonance.
“Mate.” My wolf said.
“Mate?” Lucinda asked. Her voice was unsure.
“Mine.” I growled.
