Chapter 1 Feyre's POV Running. That's all I had been doing for the past three days. I had crossed over a packs border who did not appreciate me passing through. The warriors were following me still, i could hear their paws thundering through the forest, the wind whipping through my fur made me feel alive, the creatures in the undergrowth scurrying to get away from my paws as they came in contact with the ground only to leave it in a second. The constant movement was making me tired. 'No rest for 3 days tends to do that to you.' Snide comments tends to be the only thing i currently get from my wolf, Sierra. "You know it wouldn't be as hard if I had some of your help!" After a heavy sigh, I could feel Sierra pushing her consciousness forward, wanting to take control of the wolf. I let her freely as I took a back seat to the present events. She weaved her body through the trees and the bushes, picking up pace it wasn't long before she had out run the warriors. No longer being able to hear the, Sierra slowed down to a trot crossing the North border of the previous pack. 5 minutes passed before she willingly gave control back to me, settling into my wolf, I found a lake with a waterfall. I hadn't noticed it before but my throat started to become dry and my fur felt dirty and knotted. With an unknown gust of energy, i jumped into the lake. swimming around and lapping up some of the water I was starting to feel content, until I felt someone was watching me. Shaking off the uneasy feeling, I got out of the water and started to lick my paws clean. Running is an exhilarating feeling, but sometimes you just don't notice the thorns that are in the ground until it's too late. They are nasty buggers to get out when still in wolf form, but I felt to uncomfortable to shift back. If I shifted now, I would be vulnerable, it was unknown to me whether or not Sierra has crossed into another pack when she was in control. This wasn't a risk I wanted to take. After the thorns were gone from my paws I lay down next to the lake, enjoying the sound of the water as it flowed over the rocks. I was starting to be lulled to sleep when there was a snap coming from my right. Where I had just run from. Remaining on alert I looked into the bushes, willing whatever was behind it to show itself. After a minute or two, the leaves started to rustle. Sierra was being awfully quiet so I took a defensive stance, ready to pounce on anyone or anything that comes out of that bush. There were only two options that I wanted to think about, the rustling was either going to be my dinner or the next tally on my kill number. The rustling stopped and the forest went still, my nerves were on edge when out hopped a rabbit. One look and I pounced. That was dinner sorted. Feeling full and satisfied with my meal I wondered towards a hefty tree by the lake front. It provided shade and coverage for when I sleep, allowing me to remain camouflaged if anyone did follow me. My eyelids started to feel heavy as I curled up into the leaves and trunk of the tree. After my eyes shut I drifted off into a deep dreamless sleep. -------------------------------------- Kaden's POV "There's a breach in the South border, check it out and report back." That one line from Alpha Daniel had me wide awake, checking the clock on my bedside table, the red numbers read 2:30AM. 3 hours of sleep, probably the most I had got in the past however many years. I hastily pulled shorts on over my boxers, not bothering with a top, and ran down the stairs of the packhouse. as I jumped off the front porch I shifted into my wolf and started running towards the South border. On my way there I started smelling the most amazing scent, but it was something that wasn't familiar. My wolf was going crazy, begging to have control as we started coming closer to the lake, my retreat when things get to hectic in the pack. I give him full control when I can hear the water flowing, taking the back seat, I witness my wolf hide behind a bush. Looking over the top of the leaves, my wolf stops. "Whats going on?" "It's her." I swear Lucien is the most confusing and cryptic wolf anyone would meet. "What do you mean 'it's her'? Who is she?" I was starting to become a little paranoid with the lack of information I was receiving. "Mate." As Lucien said that word, a rabbit had bounded up to our back legs, not realising we were there due to the lack of movement and the black fur covering our body blending in with the night. With the sudden noise made by the rabbit, our mate snapped her head to look in our direction. Holding the rabbit down, we watched her. she wasn't moving, just staring at the bush that was hiding us. After a minute or two, the rabbit had started to move around more making noise that put our mate into a defensive position. She was ready to pounce and my gut feeling was that if we moved forward she would most likely kill us. Releasing the rabbit it rushed through the leaves and straight towards my mate. As predicted she was ready to pounce and that poor rabbit became her victim. I continued to watch her as she cleaned her fur and started to look for a place to sleep. Refusing to sleep in the open she lay down by a tree and started to hide herself in the leaves and undergrowth. "Whats the news on the rogue?" Alpha Daniel was looking for a report, I hadn't realised that she was the one I was supposed to be reporting on when I was watching her. "I found the rogue but theirs been a slight hiccup." Couldn't exactly lie to my Alpha after all. "What do you mean a hiccup?" "She's my mate." All I received from Daniel was silence. I was starting to worry on whether or not he would talk to her let alone accept her when I got a reply. "Bring her to the packhouse in the morning. I will need to speak with her. Oh, and congratulations" With that said, I blocked anyone else from mind-linking me and continued to watch over my mate. I felt content knowing that she wont be attacked if I am here, but it also filled me with sadness watching her, realising I cannot go to her yet. She doesn't know about me, the fear of rejection was too much for me. I ended up spending the rest of my night watching her silently, wishing she would wake up so I could meet the person that I would be spending the rest of my life with.
