Chapter 11: Fly

Kai pulled the car to a stop in a small parking lot in to the right side of a traditional chinese building. He got out of the car and asked me to stay put before coming to my side and opening my door for me. My hand was taken by his and we walked into the front door with a golden dragon swirling all over the red wood. Once we entered the adorable establishment we were led to a small table for two next to an indoor garden with speakers in the ceiling playing traditional chinese music. Once we were settled Kai brought me up to the large buffet that held so many incredible dishes. I smiled at the mac and cheese and hotdogs for picky eating children. I placed sweet and sour chicken, chicken lo mein, crab rangoons and a pork egg roll on my plate before getting a cup of sweet and sour sauce and heading back to our table.  "What would you like to drink?" A small woman with a heavy chinese accent asked.  "What do you have?" Kai asked.  "We have coke products." She said putting her hands behind her back. "I'll take a sprite please." I said with a small smile.  "And I'll have a coke." Kai answered, the woman smiled and bounced off while I began dipping my chicken in the sweet and sour sauce and eating it happily. I moaned once I took the first bite and looked down at my plate with love.  "This hits the spot." I breathed before taking another bite. "I'll have to remember that." Kai said, I looked up at him and saw he was smiling at me, both of his dimples showing.  "Thank you Kai." I said once I was done chewing.  "Your welcome love." He said with a smirk while he ate his sesame seed pork. We waited until we were done with our plates to begin chatting.  "So love, is there anything you want to know about me?" I nodded while beaming and his eyes lit up.  "I didn't know you had dimples too." I giggled and looked down at my lap. "I like 'em." "That's good, they're kinda permanent." I said with a smirk, Kai chuckled and nodded.  "That they are love." He said before chuckling some more. "So ask me anything." "Well you know I have siblings, what about you?" He nodded and smirked sadly.  "I had three siblings once upon a time. My older brother Damon, my younger brother Corey and my baby sister Sara. I can see you're confused, all of them are alive, but I don't really have contact with them." "Why?" "I'll tell you that later, it's not a happy tale and we are keeping this date as bright as possible." I nodded in understanding.  "How did you meet Stephen?" He smirked again.  "This is an interesting story, something you may not know is that originally Shane was the only brother to take the seat of power. Stephen left home looking for his own place in the world when he stumbled upon our little pack. We had a horrible man named Brandon leading us, he was mean and abusive and only cared about power. Stephen stepped in and killed him, our old beta was a trickster, he tried to lure Stephen into a trap and kill him so he could be the Alpha. He was worse than Brandon ever was, a few warriors and myself protected our new Alpha, but the beta got away fleeing for his life. Stephen then appointed me as his 1st warrior and my mentor as his beta." Kai looked down at the table sadly.  "We began getting hit by rouges, a lot. So Stephen decided to move us back here and combine the Smoke mountain and Black eagle packs, making us the Smoke-eagle pack. Before we could get away safely we were attacked again, that time we lost my mentor and his beta. We moved back here and Shane found his mate Pearl, she came from my pack. After a few years Stephen decided to go out mate hunting and asked me to join seeing as he didn't have a beta." "Why didn't he choose a new beta?" I asked, my interest peaked.  "Stephen felt that Mason was to invaluable to be replaced. He may not have known him long, but Mason was like a father figure to us both." I nodded. "We have been traveling around the world looking for our mates for a year and a half." "Wow." "Yeah, I'm not going to lie, Stephen and I were close to giving up when we go the call from Shane, we only had about three more states before we covered the entire US. I'm not even entirely sure if Stephen even plans on going back out to look for his mate seeing as I found you." "Did you ever visit my old pack?" "What is the name?" "Delta river." "No, we were three days from visiting them." "I have a feeling that he should go there." "Once we know you are safe, we'll all go back there so you can see your family." I sent him a huge smile, with a happy whine. "I can't wait for you to meet my brother Dallas." I said wiggling.  "The only thing I'm not excited for is the whole dad interrogation thing." He said with a shudder making me laugh.  "Eh my dad isn't that scary, it's Dufus you have to watch our for. She is viscous." "Dufus?" "My cat, I found her behind the diner I worked at when she was a kitten and brought her home." "Awwe, that is adorable." "Yeah, surprisingly she gets along with a house full of dogs." I said with a giggle.  "Probably a good thing eh?" "Yeah, probably." I agreed. "We should get some dessert!" I got up swiftly and went back to the buffet and grabbed a piece of chocolate cake and Jell-O cubes along with chocolate covered fruits. I went back to my seat and munched on my dessert finishing and patting my stuffed belly.  "How are you feeling love?" I nodded happily and let out a dreamy sigh while rubbing my still super thin stomach. "That's good to hear, let's get headed home." I stood up and went to the register where Kai paid for dinner. We went out to the parking lot and were about to get in the vehicle when I heard a sad whimper. I looked around and my heart broke when I saw a small ball of fur tied to a pole not too far from us.  I left the car with the door open and went to the small ball and looked at the shaking thing. "Poor doggy." I whispered. The little ball uncurled and the brown eyed puppy began thumping it's tail on the hard cement. I untied it from the pole and lifted the scrawny thing into the air. It tried to lick my face as it wiggled and whined happily in my arms. "Hello little one, what are you doing out here?" I pet it's head as feet walked up behind me. I turned to Kai who looked at the small dog and reached out to per her head. He looked around the pole and sniffed before growling lightly and walking back over to us.  "Well, I don't think it's...her, people will be coming back seeing as they left her here a few hours ago." He said rubbing her head. "How about we stop at the store on the way home and pick up a few things before we bring her to the vet tomorrow and see if she has a chip." I nodded and carried the small dog to the car. Kai drove us to the 24hr supermarket seeing as all the pet stores were closed. I carried the puppy around unwilling to let her think we were gonna leave her all alone. We ended up getting her a new leash and collar before getting a crate and dog bed, a food and water dish, puppy pads, a small and soft blanket, a few toys, wet and dry food and a flea and tick shampoo and collar. Kai drove us home occasionally petting the small pup, who was sleeping peacefully in my lap.  "What should we name her if she doesn't have a home love?" "Artemis. I've always loved that name for a doggy." "I think it suits her." We rode the rest of the way home in silence in our own thoughts. Once we got home we brought everything up to the bedroom, I took the pup into the bathroom and ran a bath. She layed down in the warm water and began rolling around. I giggled and used a cup Kai handed me to get her completely wet, once she was drenched I washed her with the flea and tick shampoo. Kai grabbed a washcloth and washed her small face, careful not to get it in her eyes. When she was done we drained the water which was brown with dirt and small black hairs.  Kai toweled her off and set her down so we could see what she looked like all cleaned up. She was a cute black thing with brown brindle paws and white belly. She had a white mark on her face along with a brindle muzzle and right ear. Her eyes were a gorgeous brown color that in the lighting of the bathroom looked like they had a tint of red in them.  "Aren't you a cute lil thing?" I said in a baby voice, she wiggled and yipped. She jumped back and yipped again as if she was surprised that she made the noise.  "That is adorable." Kai said rubbing her small back with his large hand. I giggled and lifted her up carrying her into the bedroom and setting her on the puppy pad. I handed a bowl to Kai and he went to the sink to fill it with water while I mixed together a can of wet food with some dry puppy chow. I set the food in front of her ate she ate it greedily while I pet her back and head. At first she growled thinking I would take her food but stopped when she realized that wasn't the case. Kai came back and set the water down, she drank it greedily.  "I really hope she doesn't have a family." Kai said surprising me. "I've always wanted a dog, but I wanted to make sure the love of my life would want one too." I blushed and took his hand in mine. His thumb gently caressed my knuckles and I squeezed his hand before petting the pup with my free hand. "I'm so happy you do." He whispered, causing me to blush even more.  "Kai, how old are you?"  "26 love, and you?" "20." "When is your birthday?" "July 18th, and yours?" "February 3rd." After he had responded the small pup took her bloated body and defecated on the puppy pad, the smell of it made me aware that the small thing had worms. "Goddess that reeks, I'll take it out." He grabbed the pad while I set her up in the crate for the night, setting the blanket on the plastic bottom. She crawled in and layed down before curling into a ball and going to sleep. I went into the bathroom and cleaned up the tub before going into the bedroom and grabbing the hoodie from the previous night and pulling off my clothes. Once the bra was off I pulled on the hoodie and layed down on the bed, pulling the covers up to my chin.  I heard Kai in the living room so I called him, he walked in and sat at my feet. "What can I do for you love?"  "Can you stay with me?" I saw him nod before grabbing some clothes and heading to the bathroom to change. He walked out and layed down beside me on top of the blankets, I turned to face him and smiled lightly. "You can get under the covers, I don't want you to freeze to death." I saw his eyes sparkle in the darkness as he chuckled. I felt the blankets move as he slid in underneath them. "Better?" He asked, I nodded. It was much better, I could feel the heat of his body wrap around me even though we weren't touching. It didn't take me long to fall asleep, that night I dreamed of our wolves running side by side through the woods with an adult version of Artemis, I was at peace.
