Chapter 15: Good as Hell

Unpacking took longer than either of us were expecting because we kept getting side tracked by goofing around. Kai finally got me to replace his old salt and pepper shakers and leave Elenore and Bert downstairs on the table. When I was done with the last box I sighed and went to the bed and fell onto the softness. Kai chuckled from behind me before sitting down by my side. 

"C'mon baby, I want to show you something." I stood up and clapped my hands together while smiling and bouncing on the balls of my feet. "Oh and bring your tampon money." I rolled my eyes at Kai's name for my squirrel fund, but I grabbed my savings and followed him down the hall toward the front of the house. We walked into his office and he led me over to the book shelf filled with the old journals. 

He pulled a handful of the journals from their spots and fiddled with something before motioning me over. He had a safe built into his wall, and it had a few things in it already. I handed him my tampon box, which he placed in the safe before shutting the door and locking it by spinning the dial. He then placed the journals back in the order he had them in. 

"I like your office." I said spinning around slowly, and walking over to the love seat and feeling the soft material of it.

"Wait until you see Stephen's office in the pack house." He said before taking my hand and interlocking our fingers, he led us back down the spiral stair case and to the west side of the house where the living room was. We went into the living room where a set of french doors hid in the corner of the room. We walked over to them and Kai whistled sharply. Artemis came running up to us and we all went into the back yard and played until Artemis was too tired to move anymore. I laughed as Kai carried the now sleeping puppy into the house. Just as he was coming back out a wave of power washed over me causing my body to shudder, I looked up at the sky which was turning pink in a wave of fear. It was the night of a full moon. 

Unlike what some shows or stories want you to believe, werewolves don't lose control and kill anything in their line of sight. Younger wolves who are new to shifting and those with a complicated emotional issues tend to have trouble controlling the power the full moon gives their wolves. Though for Lilo and I it was different, we hadn't felt the power of the moon in four months, which would make it harder to reject our animalistic impulses. I knew that if I didn't have Kai by my side during the next few hours, Lilo would go out looking for blood. 

"Kai, tonight is a full moon." I said looking back a him with wide eyes. 

"I know baby, I can feel it." He said not completely understanding why I was worried. 

"I'm going to need your help with Lilo, we haven't felt the full moon in four months." I said with a small whimper. He nodded and walked over to me placing a small kiss on my forehead. 

"I know baby, you should shift, the cavalry is coming to help me." I nodded and walked up to the house and pulled off my shirt and pants. I folded them before setting them inside the doors, next I took off my undergarments and set them with my clothes, then I shifted and padded up to Kai who was keeping his eyes on the woods. 

Once I was ready Kai went back to the house and took off his clothes and shut the door before shifting into his large wolf and joining me, a few low growls came from the woods as Kai and I looked upon them. Two large red wolves accompanied by a mid-sized grey wolf walked into our mossy yard followed by a big (5 ft 8) dirty brown wolf (Callum) and a small (5 ft 1) grey and tan wolf (Gilly). They stopped just short of us as we all began to feel the full pull of the moon as the sun sank over the horizon. 

I whimpered as Lilo lost the rational part of herself in a state of fury and took control, she began running into the forest on her way to get blood. Not too far in there was a pressure on the scruff of our neck accompanied by sparks as Kai grabbed us. Lilo growled and wrenched herself from him before bolting farther into the dense woods. Once again we were stopped, only this time we were thrown to the ground harshly by one of the twins. He began growling at Lilo, trying to get her to submit without using force. 

She whimper growled while lowering her head and rubbing her ears with her paws as she tried to fight his power over her as her Alpha. Just then Shane and Lani walked up and began snarling as well, Lilo growled a them all in anger, she was pissed that they wouldn't let her get revenge. Stephen snarled and barred his teeth before snapping his jaw, making a large clacking sound. Lilo finally submitted by laying down on her belly and lowering her eyes along with licking her chops. Shane and Stephen stopped growling and bumped her head with theirs as a show of affection. 

Sparks lit our being as Kai pressed his nose into our neck, checking to see if he injured us at all. Lilo licked his snout and stood up shaking her body. I handed her full control, knowing she had her emotions in check. She looked at our Alphas, silently asking them to lead us. Stephen growled lowly as to say "Follow me." Shane and Pearl walked right behind him with Kai and I in the middle, Callum and Gilly bringing up the rear. Stephen led us to a small clearing in the woods were the moonlight shone down in a halo like fashion, giving the small spot a magical, other worldly look. 

Soft moss and old broken, soft sticks littered the ground as we all moved to get comfortable. Stephen was the first to lie down, followed by Pearl and Shane, then Callum and Gilly. Lilo gave me control and I sighed before nudging Kai and walking up beside Stephen. Unwilling to let him feel alone I settled in on his left side while Kai rested on my other setting his large head on my back. Stephen nudged my shoulder in a sign of gratitude, I smiled inwardly and put my head down on Kia's paws. After about two hours of silence and relaxation the moon finally reached it's peak in the sky. 

A chill went down my spine as Shane, Pearl and Stephen lifted their muzzles into the air and began howling. Kai, Callum, Gilly and I were next adding our sounds into the new harmony. We heard more howls from the rest of the pack adding to the chaotic melody that would haunt the dreams of any mere man who had no idea what lurked in the darkness. Our harmonious sound would warn away any blood rouges or other packs who bore an ill will toward us, simply because of the sheer size of our pack. And yet any wolf from our pack who had lost their way from the call of the moon would be drawn back home, to their families and to safety. 

We howled nonstop for nigh on four hours before we finally sang the last chord. Once we were done all of us shut our heavy eyes and fell asleep with the fulfilling feeling of belonging and unity still filling the air. When the sun rode up into the sky I opened my eyes and looked around the clearing we were all still in. I was still sandwiched between to large male wolves as they slept soundly like any sane person would be at that ungodly hour of 5:30 am. Unfortunately, I am not completely sane. I carefully stood as not to wake the others and left the clearing avoiding stepping on anything that could wake them as I made my way home. 

Once I got to the doors I shifted into human form and went into the house, heading up into the bedroom and stepping into the shower quickly. Once I was clean I pulled on a robe and went to the living room and let Artemis out of her kennel and brought her out into the yard. I took my robe off leaving it on the door handle and shifted back into wolf form and took Artemis on a jog through the trees. We happened upon a large and tired looking fawn wolf who's face lit up when he was attacked by our small puppy. I walked over to him and rubbed my body on his in a sign of affection. He nipped my ear and bumped his forehead against mine before licking my small black nose. 

Artemis yipped while wiggling her butt in the air, Kai and I nudged her before we all ran home, well Kai and I jogged while Artemis ran with her short little legs. When we reached the house I shifted and pulled on my robe before whistling to Artemis. I fed and watered her while Kai went up to take a shower, while he was busy I made breakfast which consisted of eggs, english muffins, cheese and ham. When he came down Kai, ate four of the egg sandwiches and pressed a loving kiss on my lips. 

"It tastes delicious baby, thank you." He said against my mouth before he slowly pulled away and sighed. "I'll clean up while you go get ready for work, then I'll drive you over."

"Your welcome, and I'll be back down in just a few minutes." I ran up to our room and pulled on a pair of blue jeggings and a black V-neck tee, before slipping on a pair if socks and heading back down the steps. I met Kai and Artemis in the garage where I pulled on my converse that were in the shoe rack and climbed into the SUV. As he said Kai drove Artemis and I to work, I leaned over and placed a lingering kiss on his lips while cupping his jaw before reluctantly getting out of the car. Leaving him was getting harder by the day, like all I wanted to do was to spend all of my time with my mate and the man of my dreams.

'I don't know Lilo.' I sighed, she cut the link and I rolled my eyes and began doing my job. The day dragged on and on, until about an hour before my shift ended. Kai walked in and took a seat in my section while holding our pup. 

"What can I get you handsome?" I asked kissing his forehead. 

"Your phone number and perhaps a cup of coffee, sexy." He responded with a wink. I giggled and rolled my eyes while running a hand through his soft hair. 

"I'll be back with the coffee." I said before walking behind the counter and making him a hot cup of coffee, I brought it back to him and went to clear the table of a few costumers who left while I was making Kai's drink. When my shift was over Kai and I left the café hand in hand with Artemis leading the way. We were so wrapped up in one another we didn't see the guy who bumped into Kai until it had already happened. He looked up at us and I felt Kai tense up right away. I took the man in and noticed he had the same skin tone, face shape, nose and mouth as my mate. His eyes lit up and he beamed at my mate showing off the same dimpled cheeks as Kai. 

"Malachai! When did you get back?!" The guy asked with a happy whine. 

"A few weeks ago." Kai responded emotionlessly. The guys smile faded and he looked down at me, then back to Kai, then at our hands, then back to me and back to Kai finally resting back on my mate. 

"Is this your mate?" He asked excitedly, before turning to me. "Hi I'm Corey, Malachai's younger brother."

"Hi, I'm Shiloh." I said back squeezing Kai's hand. 

"Shiloh? You're new to the pack aren't you?" He asked curiously, I just nodded in response. He gave me a small smile before turning back to his brother. "We miss you ya know." He said lightly. 

Kai let out a small sarcastic huff before smirking coldly. "I highly doubt that Corey, you and Sara maybe, but prince perfect along with Janet and Phillip are no doubt happy not to have to deal with me anymore." Corey bowed his head while Kai clenched his jaw, his eyes going dark. I rubbed my face into his bicep and looked up at him, he looked down and gave me a small smile, that was completely fake. "Look, it was good to see you little brother, but Shiloh and I should get going." Without another word he gently pulled me to the car he drove us to the first date in and took us home. 

He was tense the entire way there making the ride uncomfortable, I knew I needed to comfort him but I didn't know how, until a light bulb went off in my mind. Once we were in the garage I went to the shoe rack and wrenched off my converse before taking Kai's hand and leading him up to the bedroom. He was silent as a statue the whole way up until I took off my shirt and pulled him into my embrace. 

"Kai, I want you to mark me."
