When Alpha Kael Draven rejects Lyra, she accepts before he can finish the words—shocking the entire pack. What no one knows is that Lyra planned it. As the last living Bondmaker, she holds the power behind the mate bond itself… and she’s ready to destroy it.

But when Kael begins to feel a twisted connection that shouldn’t exist, obsession replaces rejection. As alliances fracture and war brews between packs, Lyra must decide: end the system that controls them all, or risk becoming the very weapon it was designed to create.

Because this time, the bond isn’t fate—it’s hers.

Chapter 1: The Rejection
The clearing fell silent as I stepped forward, the weight of hundreds of eyes settling on me all at once. Wolves, warriors, elders—every rank of the Nightfall Pack stood in a wide circle beneath the full moon, waiting for a moment that was supposed to define my entire life. My mate ceremony. My fate. My ruin. At the centre stood Alpha Kael Draven—dark, untouchable, and unforgiving. The man every she-wolf wanted. The man who was about to reject me. His gaze slid over me like I was nothing more than a mistake he’d been forced to acknowledge. Good. Let him think that. The wind shifted, carrying his scent toward me—cedarwood, smoke, something dangerously intoxicating. My wolf stirred immediately, restless and confused, reaching for something she thought she recognised. I silenced her instantly, forcing her back into stillness before she could betray me. Not tonight. Never again. Kael stepped forward, his voice cutting cleanly through the tension. “Lyra Vaelith.” Murmurs rippled through the crowd. My name always did that—never for the right reasons. The weak omega. The unwanted girl. The one no one understood. The one they underestimated. I met his gaze without flinching. “Alpha.” His jaw tightened slightly, my tone not quite submissive enough for his liking. Not broken enough. He stepped closer, his presence pressing heavily against mine, controlled and deliberate. “I, Alpha Kael Draven—” “I accept.” The words left my lips before he could finish. Silence followed. Not the kind that settles—but the kind that fractures. Confusion flashed across his face, sharp and immediate. The elders shifted uneasily, and even the wind seemed to hesitate, as though something fundamental had just gone wrong. “You—” he stopped himself, eyes narrowing. “I didn’t complete the rejection.” “You didn’t need to,” I said calmly. “I know what you were going to say.” Whispers broke out around us, spreading quickly through the crowd. Some confused, some shocked, some quietly horrified. It wasn’t supposed to work this way. Exactly. It wasn’t. Kael stepped closer, his presence turning dangerous. “You don’t get to decide that. The bond—” “The bond is gone.” The moment I said it, I felt it. That final thread snap—clean, precise, absolute. Gone. For a fraction of a second, something flickered across his face. Not pain—not yet—but something unfamiliar. Something wrong. He felt it. Good. I stepped closer, lowering my voice so only he could hear. “Thank you.” His brows furrowed. “For what?” I held his gaze, steady and deliberate. “For saving me years of pretending.” Then I stepped back. Gasps broke through the clearing as I turned my back on him—on the Alpha, on the bond, on everything they believed was unbreakable—and walked away without hesitation. Behind me, Kael didn’t call me back. He didn’t stop me. He didn’t react. Not yet. But I felt it—that faint, distorted pull still lingering between us. Wrong in a way I had never felt before. And this time, it wasn’t fate. It was mine.
