Unbreakable

Chapter 6

I wake up the next morning with a pounding headache. The events of the last two days have caught up to me. I go to the bathroom and look for some pain medication. I take two pills and swallow them down with some water. I start the shower and take off my clothes and step in. I start with washing my hair. I then lather some soap on a sponge and wash my body. I rinse the soap off and stand in the shower enjoying the hot water on my skin. After a few minutes I get out and dry off. I get dressed in some leggings and a sports bra. I tie my hair into a lose braid and I head to the kitchen for some breakfast. I look in the fridge to see what we have and decide to make myself scrambled eggs and bacon. When the food is done I make myself a plate and pour some orange juice. I sit down at the table and start eating as my brother comes in from the back yard.

“ Hey sis” he says grabbing a piece of bacon off my plate.

“ Hey get your own! I say pushing his arm away. “Gross, your all sweaty. Where did you come from”?

“ I just went for a run” he says taking a bite of the bacon that he managed to get anyway.

“ What are you doing today?” I ask taking a sip of my juice.

“ I have to meet dad later in his office for more beta training.” he says.

“ I should think about getting a job now that we are done with school. I didn’t have one given to me at birth.” I say with a smirk. “ It would give me something to do”.

“ Very funny at least you get to choose yours. Might not be a bad idea though. Ask mom or dad I’m sure they know of something.” he replies.

“ Yeah maybe I will. It’s nice outside I think I’m going to go for a walk” I say putting my plate and cup in the sink.

“ Ok, I going to hit the shower. See ya later” he says heading for the stairs.

I go to the living room and grab my book, that I’ve been reading, off the coffee table. I go out the back door and start walking through the woods. I love to be surrounded by nature it’s so peaceful. Smelling the flowers. hearing the birds singing and chirping all around me. It’s calming and relaxing to me. I walk for about fifteen minutes when I get to my favorite spot. There is a big oak tree that sits on top of a small embankment that borders a stream. I come out here quite often to read and sit under the tree listening to the sounds of the water flowing downstream. I settle myself against the tree making myself comfortable. I take a deep breath of fresh and let it out. I open my book and feel my body relax as I read.

I’ve been sitting here for a few minutes when I hear twigs snapping. I look around expect to see some animal walking through the woods, but I don’t see anything. I look back down at my book and feel an unease forming in my stomach and that’s when it hits me the smell of cinnamon and vanilla. I freeze as Carter comes from behind the tree i’m sitting at and stops in front of me.

“What are you doing here” I say trying to sound confident so he doesn’t catch on that inside I am shaking with fear.

“ I was running with your brother earlier and saw you heading this way so I came to see you, mate”. He smirks at me, but I don’t find him amusing. I won’t let him get to me. “ Well I was just leaving”. I close my book and stand up keeping my back to the tree.

“ What’s the rush” he walks closer to me. “ We haven’t really talked since finding out that we are mates. The last time I saw you was at your party.”

“ What do we need to talk about? I already told you I won’t be mated to you. After what you did to me I don’t need someone like you as a mate?” I feel the anger growing inside of me. What does he think? That night never happened? That I will just run to him and live happily ever after?

“ C’mon Nova, that night we were both drinking, I thought you wanted it the way you were looking at me. Besides we are mates now, so can’t we just move on and forget it?”

“ No! I will never forget what you tried to do. I will take a chosen mate or rather be alone than to be mates with you” I growl.

Before I can even react Carter grabs me by the throat and pushes me up against the tree. His eyes have turned black. “ You will not be with anyone else. You are my mate and I will be the only one to touch you. Do you hear me?” He says with a growl. “ You know I didn’t even really want a mate but as future alpha of this pack it is my duty to have a Luna and produce heirs and that is what you are going to do.” I try to push him off of me but he gets closer and runs his nose along my neck. “ Mmmm, you smell so good like honey. I bet you taste good too”.

“ I will reject you. I refuse to be your Luna”. He looks at me and loosens his grip on my throat. I can see the anger on his face. His jaw tightens as he stares at me. “ You reject me and I will make you and your family’s life hell.” He chuckles as I looked at him confusion on my face. “ My father is involved in some business that to some may not be very reputable or legal for that matter but is very profitable and what has helped our pack become very rich.” He looks at me studying my reaction.

“ What does this have to do with anything and why are you telling me. I could easily go and get you and your father in trouble.” He smiles with a devilish grin.

“Well you see that’s the thing, this certain endeavor is disguised under forged documents to make it look legit. Would you like to know who’s signature we used to forge those document?” He looks at me waiting. Realization hits me and I look at him in horror. “No!” I gasp.

He chuckles.“ You catch on quick. Yes, your father’s signature is on those documents. Now like I said your father has no clue what is really going on ,but if anyone would ever find out it’s your father who would go down for it. Your brother would also have to forfeit the beta title as well.”

“ You bastard! You can’t do that!” I yell.

“ I can and I will. If you try to reject me your whole family will go down and I’m sure you wouldn’t want that”. He takes my braid and starts playing with it. “ Your choice mate. Reject me and suffer the consequences or accept me as your mate. My father is stepping down as alpha sooner than expected. He is announcing it this Saturday. I need to know your decision before then.”

He lets go of my hair and cups my chin with his hand. I turn my head away I don’t even want to look at him. He leans down and I feel his lips place a kiss on my cheek and he lets go of my chin. “ Always a pleasure, Nova. I’m sure you will make the right choice.” He says with a smirk on his face. He starts to walk away and I wait until I can no longer see him before I collapse to the ground and let the tears fall.
