2: The Twins

2023 Words
We went to a private entrance of some sort, apparently Freya has some “connections” to the club’s administration. Bailey brushed it off saying Freya got “involved” with the bartender or bouncer just for this occasion making Freya laugh it off without denying or confirming anything. The inside is surprisingly elegant and classy, with the same feeling of modern design on it. Han is probably having a field day when I turn to her. My guess was right as I can see her eyes feasting on the club’s layout. “This is sleek” I heard Bailey’s voice in front agreeing with him. We walked deeply on the establishment, Han’s eyes on the floor plan as well as the others. But mine is playing around with every person already occupying the space. As expected mixed groups are thrown into, so this is not just for the young people but neither were too old or too young just exactly mixed right. This is too much. My hyperactive analysis came rushing in again. I cursed myself internally, reprimanding my way of thoughts. I tried to fix my thoughts going haywire again when I felt a chill run through my spine. Like eyes are fixed at me I subtly scanned my surroundings, nothing was amiss. I double checked everyone. I felt my shoulders sagged again like the gaze left. What is that? What just happened? I scrunch my forehead, quizzing my brain while looking cautiously and diligently at the surroundings. A tap woke me up, making my head turn. “You’re over thinking we can go home if you want” I heard Han’s voice. I shook my head at her knowing full well that she actually wants to be here but I’m making her worried. I looked at her with reassuring eyes. “It’s just new, I’ll be fine” I assured her. She stood still for a few seconds but looking at me with my determined gaze she eventually relented. Saying we need to enjoy it. I smiled at her enthusiasm and rolled my eyes, catching a gaze directed towards us. Freya’s blue eyes melting on my own, with supposed to be glee but something is underneath that glee. I groaned inwardly, reminding myself that maybe I’m reading too much in this. I'm just going to let loose a little tonight. I gave myself a mantra. After a few-dozen shots later, I felt my brain or my eyes getting foggy. I fixed myself telling everyone I will be going to the restroom, making Han shot straight up and wanting to accompany me. I rejected her offer, telling her I won’t be long as I need to just splash water in my face. She was in my expectation, adamant on accompanying me but I denied her promising I’ll be back in 10 minutes and If I wasn’t back not a second later she can fetch me. Knowing me for a long time, time management and promises are in my trusted qualities so she let me go. I walked towards the signage for the restrooms, honestly I’m not comfortable with public restrooms. That is one of my pet peeves; public bathrooms but right now I have to and it seems that it looks new and clean. Maybe set an exception this time. I walked towards the lavatory area, the design is just like the overall design of this club is elegant. The marble lavatory is just perfect. I stood admiring it but before I can get any further I saw my mind clock reminding me that I have to get back quickly. I washed my face cooling my heated face and looked at myself in the mirror I took some tissues out and wiped my face gingerly as I deemed that I still look somewhat decent I left the restroom and feeling parched I walked towards the bar counter leaning slightly on one of the available seats there seeing the bartender is busy I discreetly investigated if I can get some water from him. If someone just listened to my thoughts, I saw the bartender pick up a glass and a bottle underneath pouring the contents in the glass before putting it in front of me. I looked at him with a raised eyebrow, he chuckled amusingly. “It’s sparkling water, don’t worry” he informed me. “I wasn’t questioning the content, it was the intent” I told him blankly. “And how you caught out unto me quickly”. I added the last part as I saw him stilled for a second before regaining his composure. “I’ve been in this profession for quite some time” he answered shortly before smiling. I took the glass, lifting it in my lips and sipping on it. He nodded in satisfaction before turning to the other customers when I saw something in his neck. A wire? Apart from his own long dark curls I can still see the difference between hair and a wire. His hair style must be part of his appearance but why? I squinted my eyes, the dim lights making it difficult but I can still see it. He’s wearing an earpiece of some sorts. I’m guessing over earphones, but I’m not sure. Finishing my glass, I took some bills in my purse making him shake his head telling me that it’s free. I nodded to him in understanding, seeing that my 10 minutes was almost up, as I neared our table again. I can see Han’s figure readying to stand straight up if I’m a second late. Before she could take action I slipped onto my seat looking at her, her expression became lax and smiled a little. I immersed myself through the conversation going around our group. Not noticing the pair of dark eyes studying my every move the moment I walked in. ________________________________________ Her rich curls rolling in waves along her back, her upright posture not slouching even when distracted. Firm and gentle voice is being drowned by the club’s music, but I can still hear her voice, the dimness of the ambience contributing to her tonight’s seductive yet elegant appearance. “Hun ser yngre ut” (she looks younger) “Fordi hun er det” (because she is) I swirled the glass in my hand, making the beverage in it create a little whirlpool before taking a sip. I fixed my gaze again on the brunette. Her meek smile and bright eyes illuminating everyone’s eyes on her. And speaking of eyes, someone finally got their courage and walked to their group’s table. I can see the man approaching his eyes set on a specific someone, I can see how he crouched too much for a casual approach, he conversed a little on the group before aiming his goal and talked to her, I can see the startled expression on her eyes but she remained her composure casual and aloof. He’s smiling brightly at her, his eyes hinting on something. Her head gently shakes towards the man, declining whatever he is asking her. The determined expression in his eyes telling that he won’t back down easily, after a series of shaking and the obvious no from her, alarmed the girl beside her boldly shielding her from him that got the attention of the rest making everyone on their table come to her rescue. Finally, the man hesitantly made his retreat but in his demeanor he is not done yet. I held my palm and the man not far from me looked straight at me before nodding knowing what I’m implying taking his leave with a mission in mind. I leisurely leaned on my seat again, relaxing my gaze on the object of my interest yet again. We will meet soon. ___________________________________________________________________________ “That guy was a creep,” Bailey mused leaning on the wall. We were currently outside of the club and everyone decided to make this little occasion cut short. Because some incident happened earlier. I stared at Bailey who was chewing his lip distractedly. “I was so ready to pummel his face” I heard Han’s irritated voice beside me, her face red. “Then you’ll hurt your hand and you’ll complain to me relentlessly” I retorted jokingly. “As long as we avoided some repercussions, we might as well call the night” Dylan stated making everyone nodded in agreement. “Freya? Are you okay?” We heard Bailey ask, snapping her off to her daze she looked at us before nodding vigorously. She’s acting odd. “Then let’s call it a night” Freya stated, giving us a small smile. We all nodded at her, said our goodbyes and parted ways. Han and I went back to my car, the parking area was bright and easily can be spotted if ever would happen. But I felt that we’re safe. I halted a little in my step and looked behind me seeing the usual and none out of place scenery. I continued to walk behind Han. “Crazy night huh?” I heard Han ask while drying her hair. I nodded at her, after she was done drying her hair she slipped to the other side of my bed, I c****d my head sideward towards her not looking away from my book. She rested her head on her palm peaking at the page of the book I’m reading. “Have you seen anything strange tonight?” she suddenly asks. I lifted my eyebrow, “Aside from the odd man, what else?” I asked. She hummed, “Nothing, maybe my eyes are just playing with me,” she answered, turning her back at me. “What do you mean?” I bugged her by putting a bookmark on my page before tucking it on my nightstand leaning my chin on her shoulder. “Your classmate is weird,” she said vaguely. “But it’s probably nothing, we don’t get along much with other people anyway so maybe that’s why I find everyone else weird” she added. I rolled my eyes at her before laying on my back, I reminisced of tonight’s events. Nothing is really out of place, maybe we’re just anxious. Does this mean we need to go out more? I groaned internally. Nope, too lazy to do that. I sighed before flicking the lights off, as sleep slowly drags me away. I saw the silhouette of the bag I used tonight on my study chair, something shined on it, must be nothing, my mind at ease as I slowly succumbed to dream land. While in some alleyway, bones cracking, blood spilling is happening. A tall and broad man towering over another man. His punches swift yet full of force, blood splattering from the latter’s mouth, whimpers and groans can be heard from the battered man. “Nok” someone said, halting the taller man on his movements. Letting go of the shirt that he’s been griping before standing on his full height. (Enough) “What did I do to you?” the battered man on the ground asked. “You aimed disrespect” someone from the shadows appeared staring at him with a calm yet deadly aura. “Look man, I don’t even know either of you and I’m damn sure I didn’t disrespect either of you. So let me the hell go!” the battered man reasons. “Kan vi drepe ham? Han hadde sett ansiktene våre uansett” the man with bloodied fists asks his eyes gleaming with mischief. (Can we end him? He had seen our faces anyway) The man with a calm expression, his lips twitching, “Fair point, avslutte ham og rydde opp. Jeg vil ikke ha noe blod på bilen min.” (Fair point, end him and clean up. I don’t want any blood on my car.) He answered before turning his back, his steps silent. A clean break can be heard behind him before taking his phone out. “Ingen problemer her, fortsett i morgen” he stated briefly before hanging up. (No problem here, proceed for tomorrow.) It’s time.
