"What in the world are you talking about Samuel?" Adam asked with a perplexed look.
"This is an ancient story past down to Enoch." Samuel explained holding up the leather bound book, "Enoch decided the story was important enough to write it down."
"Why have I never heard of the book of Enoch?" Adam asked.
"Some people believed that it was more of a fable." Samuel answered, "Luckily the church had a copy of the text."
"Why is this book important?" Sarah asked quietly and sipped her tea.
"This book explained everything about the Nephilim." Samuel responded. "The Nephilim are the first race of angels that lived on Earth. At first they were referred to as the watchers, because their job was to watch the humans and try to understand them." Samuel took a breath, "Later the book of Enoch refers to them as the fallen."
Sarah thought back to the chant, 'Azazel, watcher, fallen, Nephilim. It all makes sense, except for Azazel.'
"Enoch explained that how the watchers were sent to Earth." Samuel explained laying the book down and opening it.
As Samuel read from the book of Enoch, Sarah felt herself pulled into another world. Samuel's voice faded into the background as the room faded from view and replaced by a beautiful landscape of open plains, mountains, forest, and lakes. She noticed how she floated among the clouds as she observed the landscape. It felt eerie not having land under her feet, but also exhilarating to be flying high in the heavens.
A dazing bright light caught her attention She turned and saw a glowing white light blazed in front of eight glowing orbs. She heard the bright light instruct the orbs. 'They were the watchers.' Sarah thought as she observed the orbs descend to Earth. The orbs landed on Earth and transformed into eight men. The eight watchers were taller than the humans living on Earth were.
She observed the watchers teaching the humans how to build fires, grow vegetables, herbs, and fruit. The watchers also taught the humans about weapons, armor, and hunting. The watchers became lustful for the human women and the leader of watchers, Azazel wanted to rule the humans. She saw how they forced themselves on the women. Through her vision, she saw as the human women give birth to a race of giants. The human women died while giving birth to the giants.
One watcher knew this to be an abomination and not of God's plan. He pleaded Azazel to stop this abomination. In turn, Azazel laughed at him. The watcher tried to fight Azazel for dominance. The other watchers, who were loyal to Azazel, attacked their friend. Sarah watched in horror as the other Nephilim turned on him and beat him nearly to death. They dumped the watcher into canyon at the edge of the wastelands. Sarah felt her heart break for the Nephilim who tried to defend the humans and for the human women who would suffer.
Then everything changed. Dumping the watcher into the canyon did not kill him as they thought. The canyon they tossed him into had a river running through it. The impact with the river had saved his life. He managed to dragged himself away and deep into the wasteland. The other watchers complacent and focusing their energies on the women and forgot about him.
The giants grew to amazing heights and waged war on the humans and watchers alike. Sarah watched in silent terror as the giants slaughtered the humans. They ate the men and mating with the women. The Nephilim kept their distance and watched as the humans die. The white light felt displeased with the Nephilim for what they had done. The second race of angels appeared from the heavens, trapped the watchers or now called the fallen, and killed the race of giants. Sarah vision wavered as the battle raged between the fallen and the angels. When her vision cleared, she discovered she was standing in an underground chamber lit with torches.
The underground chamber looked familiar to her. It dawned on her that this was the very chamber she had seen in her dreams. Observing the vision, Sarah saw the angels pin six fallen Nephilim into the metal coffins along the wall. Their arms and legs were pinned with metal stakes and the doors while they still lived. The angels bent their leader, Azazel backwards over a large rock. His wrist and ankles pinned with metal stakes. A metal mask with angelic symbols placed over his face. Before they secured mask over his face, his voice boomed throughout the room.
"One day we will be free my brothers, one who is pure of heart will free us when she makes the choice. She will be deceived by one who is like her." Azazel commanded and laughed as the mask slid over his face.
The underground chamber faded from Sarah vision and Adam's kitchen came back into view as Samuel finished the story.
"The seven fallen Nephilim were encased in an underground volcano. Never to be seen from the world again." Samuel finished the story.
"Wait that's wrong," Sarah blurted out shaking her head to clear her vision. "There were eight watchers."
Adam and Samuel looked at Sarah confused by her outburst. Then Samuel spoke up.
"The book of Enoch tells of seven watchers or fallen angels."
"Enoch got it wrong," Sarah interjected, "I saw everything, just like when I saw Jes...I mean myself die."
"How is that possible?" Adam asked.
"I don't know I just saw everything." Sarah said quietly, "Eight watchers were sent to Earth. When they created the race of giants, one watcher fought back against Azazel and almost died. The other watchers thought he was dead." Sarah felt herself breathing heavy and looked down to see her fist where clenched, "He managed to crawl away into the wasteland, never to be seen from again. I also saw how the angels fought and encased the fallen Nephilim in the volcano."
Sarah jumped slightly as she felt something touch her hand. She looked down and saw Adam had placed his hand over hers. His contact helped her relax.
Sarah continued, "Azazel spoke before a metal mask was placed over his face. He said, 'One day we will be free my brothers, one who is of pure heart will free us when she makes the choice. She will be deceived by one who is like her'."
"A curse from God's right hand angel," Samuel said.
"I thought Michael was God's right hand angel." Adam countered.
"Azazel was first and then after God was displeased with Azazel's betrayal. Michael was given the honor." Samuel corrected.
"So that means I have to die in order for the fallen to return. Celestia will be the one who will kill me." Sarah said looking down at the table. "Celestia has been trying to kill me in my nightmares."
"Not nightmares," Samuel corrected, "Visions of your past."
"Visions of my past," Sarah repeated, "But what does Adam have to do with this. I have seen him in several of my visions and he either kills me first." Sarah swallowed, "Or a bright light kills us both."
"Your death has been interrupted several times, because your guardian has prevented it." Samuel answered.
"What do you mean by guardian?" Sarah asked.
"Adam is the guardian of the white witch. He is destiny to protect or kill you. You two share a bond that is old as time itself."
"That does not make sense." Adam interjected.
"What does not make sense, boy." Samuel argued, "That you both died in that cabin. That you are the guardian of this woman."
"I woke up the next day in your hut." Adam said confused. "You said you found me outside your doorstep."
"You were dead, until Jess...Sarah was born into the world again." Samuel explained, "Those marking on your body tell the story of your past."
Sarah and Adam looked at Samuel as if he had lost his mind. Suddenly Samuel stood up, grabbed the knife, and lunged at Sarah. Before Adam knew what he was doing, he quickly grabbed Samuel by the wrist and twisted Samuel onto the ground. Sarah screamed and tried to move out of the way of the knife. Adam knocked the knife out of Samuel's hand. Samuel laughed as Adam held him pinned to the ground.
"Are you crazy old man?" Adam shouted.
"Am I?" Samuel chuckled, "Look what you did. One moment you were ready to strike her and you dropped the knife." Samuel explained still pinned to the ground. Adam looked over at Sarah who looked shocked by the news. "But when I tried to attack her, you took me down without hesitation."
Adam let go of Samuel and shook his head. 'What is this old fool talking about?' Adam thought. Then he looked back at Sarah and it all clicked in his mind. He saw the past he had shared with Sarah. They shared their live together in the forest. Sarah, Jessica...all the names of her past came flooding back.
Sarah seemed to see it too. She stood up and stepped towards Adam. She saw how their lives ended in tragedy, but they always found each other. She saw how Adam opened his arms. Sarah fell into his arms, placed her head against his chest and cried. Adam embraced her crying too. Sarah sobbed hard against his chest, not tears of sadness, but tears of joy.
"I'm sorry Adam," Sarah whispered into Adam's chest, "I'm so sorry."
"There is nothing to be sorry about Sarah." Adam replied holding Sarah tighter.
"I can remember fragments from that night when Jessica or I died." Sarah said looking up into Adam's face, "Jessica sent you out on that hunt, because she wanted something special for dinner." Sarah saw by the shocked look on his face that she was right. "Jessica knew Celestia planned to kill you first. Then she could kill Jessica without your interference." Sarah shuddered at the memory.
"Wh...What were you or Jessica planning to do?" Adam asked swallowing hard.
"She wanted to face Celestia alone and end it." Sarah said quietly.
"What do you mean by end it?" Adam asked, but he knew the answer.
"She wanted to stop Celestia once and for all, but..." Sarah could not finish.
"I showed back up and she had to kill us all." Adam finished.
"Celestia must have escaped somehow and survived." Sarah added and laid her head back on Adam's chest.
Sarah looked up at Adam again and he leaned down to kiss her on her soft lips. They kissed each other for a moment, before they heard someone clearing their throat. Sarah and Adam stopped kissing and turned their heads to see Samuel standing up and dusting himself off. Sarah blushed feeling warm. She rested her cheek against Adam's chest again. Closing her eyes, she listened as Adam's heart beat in a rhythmic pattern. It felt soothing to Sarah.
"Well since that is over with," Samuel smirked, "We still have one problem."
"What problem is that?" Adam said feeling that this was not the end.
"Sarah turns twenty-one tomorrow during the peak of the full moon." Samuel explained. "They need to sacrifice her during that time to bring the fallen back into this world."
"Why does my age and a full moon matter?" Sarah asked opening her eye, turning her head and looking at Samuel.
"You come into your full power during that time." Samuel answered, "I'm sure you have been feeling it in you as a small stream. For example the visions, anything you touch that once belonged to you."
"I have felt it in me." Sarah agreed. Remembering when she touched the dress and the hairbrush.
"During the full moon tomorrow your full power will awaken in you." Samuel added. "Celestia will use that moment to free your power and bring the fallen into this world."
"We need to leave now," Adam said fiercely feeling anger rise up in him, "I can get us on a ship going anywhere."
"It is best we wait it out for now." Samuel responded.
"What are we waiting for?" Adam retorted angrily.
"Use your head, boy." Samuel growled, "The house is protected and if we step foot out there. They are sure to overwhelm us."
Adam wanted to argue back, but understood what Samuel said.
"You are right. We need to wait it out for now." Adam sighed.
"Well since we have nothing to do, but wait, how about some dinner." Samuel added rubbing his hands together.
"Why not," Adam replied shaking his head.
