Chapter 1 - The New Tribe Chief
The Philissians gathered in the village square, buzzing with excitement. They had eagerly anticipated this day for
years, as it would mark the appointment of their beloved Layag as the tribe's new chief. The air was alive with the sound of
drumming and chanting, and the fragrance of flowers filled the room. Villagers from all over Philissia had gathered to
witness this historic event and brought gifts for the new chief, including food, clothing, and precious stones. The
crowds grew larger as the sun rose higher in the sky, and soon the entire village was packed to capacity. While adults
sat in the shade and nodded in agreement with the joyful scene in front of them, kids ran around the perimeter of the
square with their eyes wide with wonder and excitement.
Silks glistened and gems sparkled on a platform in the center of the square. Chief Ahon, Layag's father, sat erect
on this platform, dressed in the finest robes and sporting a sophisticated necklace made of the most priceless pearls.
His eyes sparkled with pride as he observed the sea of faces in front of him, and a smile spread across his weathered
face.
"My dear Philissians people," Chief Ahon said as he addressed the crowd.
"We have assembled here today to witness the enthroning of Layag as our new chief.”
"He is a brave and wise young man, and I am sure that he will lead our tribe with great strength and honor."
The audience applauded as Chief Ahon continued while beaming with joy. But before we begin the ceremony, let us
first express our gratitude to the gods who have granted us this fertile land and to the spirits who have watched over us
through the years. Chief Ahon began to chant, and the group fell silent, bowing their heads in respect. The quiet,
energizing air was thick with anticipation. When the chanting ended, Chief Ahon turned to face his son.
He uttered, "Layag, my son," in a voice that was shaking.
"Because you were born into a high-born legacy, you will now take on your rightful role as the chief of our tribe.
I am confident that you will guide our people in a way that is just and compassionate while also bringing them
honor and prosperity."
Layag moved forward with joy and excitement in his heart. As he looked out over the sea of faces, taking in the
cheering and smiling villagers, his heart was overflowing with a profound sense of gratitude and love. He uttered
in a loud, clear voice,
"Abu, I'm lowered and recognized by your words."
"With all the ability, capacity and sagacity I have, I vow to lead our lineage."
"I pledge to uphold our culture, safeguard our territory, and work to make life better for everyone in our Community."
Layag was overcome by a strong sense of happiness and satisfaction as the audience applauded once more.
Ima Alpas his mother, siblings Haya and Puyo, as well as the villagers, were all beaming with pride. Layag also
felt a strong sense of purpose and belonging. As his son took his place on the platform, Abu Ahon extended a hand
and put a ceremonial headdress on his head. As the headdress, which was made of the finest feathers, touched his brow,
a sense of power and pride swept over Layag. With her eyes glistening with tears of pride, Ima Alpas, a woman of grace
and strength, stepped forward and hugged her son while speaking to him in a loving and encouraging manner. Haya
and Puyo, stood by their mother's side and watched their brother with awe and admiration. They were eager to follow
in his footsteps because they knew he was destined for greatness.
The air was filled with the sweet scent of flowers, and the room was filled with the sound of skilled musicians playing
weeks' worth of rehearsed traditional music. The village elders were seated in a circle around the ceremonial platform,
dressed in their customary garb. As they closely observed The New Chief Layag, their faces were etched with lines of
experience and wisdom, and their eyes were full of hope and expectation. Chief Layag's father, Abu Ahon, approached
the group. His voice was filled with emotion as he spoke of his pride in his son and his hope for the tribe's future.
Chief Layag was praised for his stoutness, cunning, and bravery, and the young man was exhorted to lead their people
with honor and dignity. The villagers gave gifts and offerings to Chief Layag throughout the ceremony, showing their
adoration and respect for their new chief in different ways. The ceremony lasted for hours. As the sun began to set,
Chief Layag remained on the platform and observed his people. His confidence that he was equipped to lead them into
a bright new future was bolstered by the warmth of their love and support, which he could feel wrapping
around him.
Long into the night, as a shower of fireworks lit up the sky, the villagers danced and cheered while watching.
Chief Layag and his people were ready to face any challenges that might arise because this was the beginning
of something new. As the stars twinkled above and the warm breeze blew the sound of laughter and celebration
across the land, Chief Layag realized he was exactly where he was supposed to be, leading his tribe into a
prosperous future. For a while, Chief Layag stood still and let the weight of the crown rest on his brow.
He knew that his life would never be the same because his duty to his people would always come first.
He had never felt a sense of pride until he turned to face his friends and family. Though the party went
well into the night and Chief Layag felt a deep sense of obligation and gratitude, he was aware of how much
ground he still needed to cover.
As Chief Layag's father, Abu Ahon, adorned him with the ceremonial headdress, Chief Layag was still
feeling the power surge through him. Despite the obvious weight of responsibility that came with being the
new tribe leader, Chief Layag felt prepared for it.
