CHAPTER FOUR: THE ANONYMOUS CALLER

“Have you carried out the investigation properly?” asked a woman whose face was hidden beneath a veil, as she sat across from the spy in a nearly empty restaurant.

“Yes, ma’am,” the spy replied. “They’re planning to build another hotel in Los Angeles, and their companies are expanding rapidly. Each organization they own is flourishing. Honestly, ma’am, I’m astonished. The woman among them, especially—she’s remarkable.”

“So… what do you suggest we do? I must finish what my father started.”

“We need to find someone who can help us h****k all their businesses and properties,” the spy answered.

“How?”

“In time, the right person will be revealed to us,” he said, an evil grin spreading across his face, exposing his discolored teeth.

Without another word, the veiled woman slid an envelope across the table toward him.

“Thanks. And make more findings too.”

“No problem, ma’am.”

JASON’S POV

Should I text her first? She hasn't made an attempt to reach out or communicate with me.

I paced around my room, lost in thought, before finally deciding to do it. Picking up my phone, I sent her a message.

To my surprise, she replied immediately.

Encouraged, I asked her out on a date. She agreed. I couldn’t help but smile at this small victory. I wasn’t sure why, because deep down I knew I didn’t have feelings for her—at least not yet.

Just then, I noticed Sydney’s missed calls again. Dozens of them. I sighed in frustration. I was already tired of her constant calls. I refused to let her ruin my day.

SYDNEY’S POV

I walked down the stairs, dressed for the office, when my elder sister, Olivia—who was twenty-eight—called out to me.

I turned to her with an annoyed expression.

“What the heck is wrong with you?” she demanded in a sharp, outrageous tone.

“And what the heck is your business?” I shot back.

“You’re my sister, and I deserve to know,” she replied firmly.

“What’s wrong with you?” Olivia demanded.

I hissed loudly. “This isn’t your business, so just focus on yourself. Get married and leave me alone!” I snapped harshly before storming out.

A moment later, my mom walked up to Olivia.

“What’s wrong, Olivia?” she asked.

“Mom, since when has Sydney started acting so awfully?” Olivia asked worriedly.

“Ever since Jason broke up with her…” Mrs. Stones sighed, unable to finish her sentence.

“Wow… Jason. The charming guy all over the internet. Can’t she just forget about him?” Olivia muttered.

“I don’t understand her, Olivia,” Mom replied.

“Mum, maybe you should find another charming guy to replace Jason for her,” Olivia suggested.

“Do you think that would work?”

“Let’s at least try,” Olivia answered.

“Well, you do know she’s hot-tempered—she’s been that way from the start,” Olivia mumbled under her breath.

ALEXA'S POV

I was thrilled when his message came in. I didn’t even have a clear reason for feeling that way, but the excitement was undeniable.

I decided I would look absolutely stunning on the day of our date.

When I got to the office, I settled down with my laptop to work. Just then, my P.A. called to inform me that I had a visitor. The so_called visitor entered my office and immediately I could see the striking resemblance.

This was Jace Anderson.

I could see their difference, the eyes, Jason's eyes were ocean blue while Jace's eyes was brown. I could also see Jace's dimples because he smiled immediately he entered the office.

And as far as I recalled, Jason had no dimples. The difference were very clear to those who notices it though.

"Hi... Miss Alexa" He greeted with a wide smile.

This was the jerk who threw a glass of alcohol on my dress that night.

I just stared at him blankly.

"Uhm..Miss Alexa?" He called again, staring at my face.

"Ohh...Hi, Mr Jace Anderson " I faked a smile.

"Ohh..You don't need to be formal with me. Just Jace." He smiled. "I guess this is the first time we're meeting each other "

He said, stretching out his hand for a shake.

I accepted it..... reluctantly. "Well, this isn't "

"Ohh..then perhaps if I may ask, where have I met you?."

"At a club " I said flatly.

"Did we interact or what happened exactly?."

"Well.....You insulted me_"

"Me_? I would never insult such a gorgeous lady_ Neverrr!" Jace said with a serious expression.

" I could tell you were drunk that night. I was on my way to the restroom when you bumped into me and threw a glass of alcohol on my dress. Instead of you apologizing, You stared at me blankly and insulted me over what you did wrong "

"Are you sure? Perhaps, you didn't see the young man clearly. It couldn't be me. I would never abuse a lady."

" I am very sure of who I saw, Jace.

Could it be Jason? I recalled he said he doesn't go to clubs " I said with folded arms and quirked my eyebrows, silently urging him to explain further.

"Well, that's actually correct.

Okay then.. let's assume it was me. I'm sorry for meeting you for the first time in that manner. Forgive me" He said with pleading eyes.

"Well, I'll try to" I said with a one sided smirk.

"Thanks"

"So_Jace, What brings you to my office? Is there anything you need my help with?"

"No, I just came to check on my brother's soon-to-be wife" He said with an annoying smile

"You wish" I mumbled

"Did you say something?"

"Oh_no, I didn't....... Have your seat then" I said, walking up to my coffee machine and prepared a glass of coffee for him.

I walked to him and placed the glass before him.

"Oh thanks Miss Alexa"

"You don't need to be formal. Just Alexa."

"Okay" He said.

We discussed for a while about nothing in particular and he eventually left.

I heaved s sigh of relief.

Mrs Leonard sat in the living room, making some calls with her business associates.

Her other phone rang repeatedly while she was on another call "

"Urmmmm_ Mrs Darlymple, I'll call you later " She hung up and picked the other phone and clicked on it.

" Hello" She said.

"Well, well, well, Of it isn't Jessica Hale " The anonymous person on the other line Said with a cunny voice.

"Who's this? And how did you know my name?"

"I don't need to introduce myself because you know me more than you can ever imagine" The caller said with a devilish chuckle.

"Who the hell are you!?"

" Well, I just have somethings to clarify.

If you would listen"

"Who_" I was interrupted by the caller.

"I'll end what my Father had started. Gresham building and properties would be mine soon. I am relentless Jessica and it isn't just over as you had expected.

Your daughter is meddling into the past and she's going to be the next victim. She knows nothing about what happened in the past. Don't try to play smart with me.

You know who you're dealing with.

Once I get my hands on those documents.....". The caller snapped her finger dramatically. She continues"It will be All mine " The anonymous person hung up immediately.

"Katey!" Mrs Leonard yelled and held her chest in pain. She screamed in agony.

Cici, the maid, rushed to help her.

She panicked and tried calling Alexa.

I was devastated and frightened when I received a call from Steve that my mom was at the hospital.

I rushed to my car and drove to the hospital.

Getting there, I asked the doctor in charge if I could see my mom in the ward.

I hugged her immediately... tears streaming through my eyeballs.

"Are you okay mom?" I said, sobbing.

"I'm alright, Alexa"She said with a forced smile.

"What happened?" I said, eventually withdrawing from her embrace.

"Alexa, I can't talk about it now. We'll discuss when I'm out of this damn hospital."

The door opened, Steve and Austin entered the room.

"Ohh mummy!" Steve said dramatically, rushing to hold her hands.

"Where's Tina? (Steve's wife) . My mom asked.

"She's at work.... really busy "

"Okay..I get it. I miss you so much Steve.

It's very much lovely and fun having you around" My mom said

"I know_ I know_ Alexa and Austin are assholes" Steve said chuckling irritably.

I was annoyed. He didn't even ask of her health. I scoffed.

Austin rolled his eyes "Mom, are you okay?" He asked worriedly.

"I'm getting better, son"

"What happened exactly mom?" Steve asked.

"You just remembered to ask" I scoffed.

"There's nothing guys. It was just a mere sudden chest pain."

"Are you sure?" Austin asked.

"Yes, I'm very sure" My mom said with a smile.

The doctor came in and we made arrangements for her to be discharged.

Who could the anonymous caller be?🤔🤔
