Caitlyn walked down the corridor of the ship with clumsy steps, as if her soul had been left behind in the dark room where Mateo had been executed. Her body was limp, her vision blank, but her mind floated with flashes of the bodyguard slitting her boyfriend's throat. Without realizing it, she had reached her room.
Caitlyn opened the door and walked into the bathroom. She stepped onto the cold bathroom floor and turned on the shower. The cold water soaked her body as her tears continued to flow.
Hours passed quickly, but Caitlyn still sat on her bed with a blank stare. Fourteen missed calls, both from Antonio and Mrs. Laura. Text messages containing curses and insults from them are ignored. Caitlyn felt traumatized and guilty for Mateo's apparent death.
She glanced at the clock, 10 pm.
