Chapter 1: Out From A Hell
“You know what, Adam? If not because of my family, maybe you are still a homeless person who scavenges food from fast food bins!" said Carola arrogantly.
Adam clenched his fists with a look of hatred. He went to the second floor ignoring Carola who was still railing against him.
He had just returned from his mother's funeral and was immediately humiliated by his wife. The $1,000,000 money given by Mr. Daniel Jones (Carola's grandfather) was spent on his mother's medical expenses. The contract marriage he had agreed to was a waste of his life. The money was gone and the risk of the agreement he needed to live with.
Adam never dreamed of being in a wealthy family. He knew his destiny. Even if there was a choice for him right now to go back to being a pizza delivery boy who lives in a small apartment, he would definitely take it.
"Don't ever think you can have it all, damn it! After that old man dies, I'll make sure you get out of this house too. Trash will always be trash!" Carola's shouting voice could be heard very clearly.
It was not without reason that Carola hated Adam. A marriage she had never imagined. Married to someone she didn't love at all. Moreover, he was a poor man. Carola's arrogant behavior and always living in luxury seemed to be dropped at once in front of everyone when her grandfather told her to marry the man of her choice. Adam Smith.
For Carola, Adam is not worthy of being in this place. Even to stand in front of him, Carola felt that he was completely inappropriate. Let alone getting married to him. However, Carola's parents could not refuse the old man's wish. The entire wealth of the Jones Family was under his control. He threatened not to give a single penny to Carola's parents if they refused his wishes.
One year of marriage had passed, during which time Adam never touched Carola's body. They slept in different rooms. Yeah, Carola was very gorgeous, but her arrogant and evil behavior was opposite to her face.
The sound of footsteps approached Adam's room. A knock on the door broke Adam's daydream.
"Mr. Adam, there's someone who wants to meet you?"
That's Miss Juliet—one of the maids in the Jones Family.
“She said her name is Margarita Rodriguez.”
'Margarita? What's she doing here?' said Adam to himself.
"Sir, can you come and see her?"
“Yes, sure. I'll be downstairs shortly."
Adam stepped out of the room. In the living room, he saw Carola sitting on the sofa holding a magazine and staring at him. He ignored her.
“Adam?!”
“Maggy, what are you doing here?”
“I heard that Mrs. Smith passed away. I am so sorry for your loss, Adam.”
“Thank you.”
“Don't be sad. She is already happy in her new place. And if you need anything help, just call me."
“Sure. Thanks for your concern.”
“No probs. Alright, I'll be leaving for now. See you.”
Adam smiled.
Margarita was his childhood friend. The girl hadn't changed at all.
"Well... well... well... So, now you're going to admit your girlfriend in front of me openly. Huh? I didn't expect it,” Carola said sarcastically.
“She's not my girlfriend!”
“Whatever! I don't care about you or your girlfriend.
But one thing you should know,“ Carola walked closer to Adam until they were only inches apart, "You're nothing better than Antonio.”
Adam clenched his arms.
No. He wasn't. He is not jealous at all. But for Adam, the humiliation had gone too far.
Adam quickly went up to the second floor and packed his clothes. Just then a Bugatti Chiron Super Sport pulled into the driveway.
He finishes packing his little stuff. He walked down the stairs and saw Mrs. Ivana Jones, his mother-in-law.
“What the hell are you doing? Are you gonna run away?! Go back to your room and wash my car! I need to use it to go to the party tonight.”
“You need a clean car? Then wash your car by yourself! I am not your servant anymore, madam.”
“Are you out of your mind?!”
“No, I am not. You! The one who lost your mind.” Adam shook his head, “That's enough. I am done with this s**t!”
Mrs. Ivana was shocked by her son-in-law's behavior.
Carola walked over and she stopped him, “Where are you going?!”
“ Are you concerned about me right now?”
Carola snorted annoyed, “You think, what's make me to be concerned about you?”
“Then it is good. I don't have my mom anymore, so I can get out of this hell right now. I can go wherever I want!”
“I don't think so.” Carola looked sharply at Adam, “Have you forgotten the marriage contract? If you leave this house before my grandfather dies, then you have to return all the money we gave you. $1,000,000!”
“Us? What do you mean by “us”? I thought it was only your grandfather who gave me the money. You and your family have nothing. You and I are no different. We are the same... poor. The difference is you are just on the lucky side, at least by now. I am not sure in any future."
“Watch your mouth, goddammit!” shouted Mrs. Ivana.
“Look! I don't care about the agreement anymore. If you want me to give back your money, then it's okay. I will give it back to you!” said Adam, pointing at them.
He walked out of the house with Mrs. Ivana and Carola still yelling and insulting him. Soon a Ford F-650 pulled up to the gate. Adam quickly put his luggage into the car and sat in the front seat. Mrs. Ivana and Carola's voices could no longer be heard.
“I know you'll call me that soon.”
“I don't care about the risk. I'll return their money if that's what they want. Even if I have to work hard for the rest of my life.”
“You don't need to work hard. You are a billionaire.”
“Wait! What?”
