Chapter 9

Luna's hands left room for her to peek at him but to cover the red of her face. What did he mean by bond? She tried to figure out what he meant before removing her hands slowly. "What the heck does that mean?" Stopping, he looked back at her and winked. "I may have chosen you, but for the bond to be complete, we must, well." He paused and gave her a seriously seductive smile. "Mate." Luna sat there thinking about what he meant before it hit her. Her eyes widened, and she began shaking her head. "Nope... That's... Let's go watch the movie." Luna sat up before walking past him quickly. She had forgotten that Gage was left in the living room to tend to herself. The child looked towards the bathroom only to see two people coming out instead of one. Gage made a gagging face before picking up the movie she had picked. "Here, sister." The child handed the film to Luna so she could put it in the DVD player. Sam walked out with his hands up in confusion. "Wait, why not?" He had never been rejected before, and this epically confused him. As they entered the living room, paw prints were evident on the carpet. He'd definitely have to clean today. Moving to the kitchen, Sam grabbed his coffee. With Gage in the room, he knew their conversation was made. Anything that had to do with such an act would not be spoken with the child in the room. Taking a sip of his coffee, he moved back to the living room and sat on the couch. Luna smiled before taking the movie. "Sure, you want to watch this one?" "Yeah!" Gage had now moved into the floor in front of the tv. Luna shook her head before placing the movie into the DVD player and sitting on the couch next to Sam. She felt really awkward now after the whole ordeal. She couldn't help but act a little tense. Gage waited for the movie to start and pushed the buttons on the DVD player to cause the commercials to skip. She then looked up at Sam for a moment. "So, what did you do with that boy?" Sam put his left arm around Luna's shoulders and looked down at Gage as she asked the question. "I just gave him a firm talking to." It was a lie, but he sounded highly truthful. Extending his right hand, he pointed at the television. "Movie's started." Gage had turned around to watch the movie excitedly. She loved watching movies on rainy days. Luna looked over at Sam before sighing. His arm around her only made her relax. Soon, she found herself cuddling with him. Once Luna had entirely loosened up after the situation in the bathroom, Sam began to tease her again. His left hand gently ran down her spine as he leaned his head toward her own. Kissing her forehead, he looked into her eyes and smiled. "You sure you don't want to?" His voice was a whisper under the volume of the movie. Luna looked at him for a second. Her face was once again redder than a tomato as looked down at Gage and then back up at Sam with a sigh. "Why are you asking now?" Part of her was starting to hurt as she was constantly rejecting him. She didn't know what it was. "Because your pheromones say otherwise." He brought his hand to rest on her inner thigh. His fingers caress the pressure point, which causes the female body to be turned on. His head moved enough to nibble on the side of her neck. Luna's eyes soon went dark as she shivered under his touch. She didn't want to, but everything else said she did. She bit her lip for a second before letting loose a breath she was holding in. "That doesn't answer my question, Sammy." She moved away slightly but not far enough that she got cold. The moment she moved away, he stopped. His hands sat in his lap now, but his eyes were bright as he looked at her. "Then reask your question. I will try to answer to the best of my ability." He smiled at her with the goofy smile he usually held. He kept his voice lower than the movie just in case Gage was still watching it. She looked over at her sister, who seemed to not notice anything. Gage seemed to be falling asleep; Luna then looked at Sam. Part of her was upset. But upset for what? She's the one who moved away. "It just seems sudden to me. What makes you ask today out of any other time?" Sam readjusted himself on the couch. He had turned to direct his attention fully to her. "Okay, so it isn't just me that feels rushed, but the wolf smells the pheromones coming from you. I'm not sure exactly what or why, but I instinctually can't fight it." As he kept his voice low, Sam seemed excited just talking about it. Looking toward the hallway now, he blinked a few times and sighed. Had he upset their mother's spirit, or did she want this as much as the wolf? Luna stared at him for a moment. She didn't understand most of what he was trying to say, but something about it seemed understandable. The red-haired girl sighed slightly before noticing him looking towards the still-open room. She turned her gaze towards the hallway. "What is it?" She went back to being tense again. She didn't know if someone else was in the house or if he was just being strange. Should he tell her? Did she not feel the presence as well? He looked at her and gave her a smile. "Your mother is still here." Standing, he moved to the kitchen and made another cup of coffee. This night would be a long one indeed. Luna looked toward Sam before looking at the room. She had already known this for a while. However, she didn't know if it was just her or if it was real. This answered most of her worries. "Oh, yeah... I know. Kind of wish she wasn't." She looked down at Gage, who was now asleep. This gave her relief. She didn't want to talk about this in front of her. "Hard to have a boyfriend or whatever when you feel like she's watching you. That's why I'd rather be in here than in there." Stirring in the sugar, he looked at her. "We could always sage the house or maybe even have a séance." He shrugged before taking a sip of his coffee. "It would be hard to get a medium here, though." To be honest, he was sure that her mother didn't mind him there. If she had, it would have been obvious when he walked in. Luna sat in silence. This was her mom they were talking about. If she wanted to stay, then why send her off. "But Sam... I can't do that to her." She stared at the bedroom door that was still open. The only reason she didn't sleep in there was so her mother could. Or she thought that's why. "Luna, her staying around isn't good for her." He moved to the living room and sat beside her again. He sipped the coffee with the cup in hand. "Earthbound spirits become malevolent as time passes. She could grow angry and possibly hurt you or Gage." He wasn't viewing this as just Luna's mother. Sam knew the possibility and the dangers of keeping a spirit in the home. Growing up, he had to do many research styles, and the paranormal just stuck with him. "She's been dead for 6 years, Sam. If that was to happen, wouldn't it have already happened?" Luna started to sound agitated again. Her tone began to sound just like it did when he had brought up Gage a while ago. Something about family caused her to get irritated. Taking a deep breath, she sunk into the couch to try and calm down. She didn't want to run him off. "It's my mom." Talking about her caused Luna's eyes to start watering. She didn't want to cry. But she couldn't stop herself. Sighing, Sam leaned back against the couch. He was an i***t, but he couldn't help but feel something was off. Why was his wolf acting like this if something wasn't going on? Putting his cup on the coffee table, he stood and moved to the sleeping Gage. Bending down, he lifted the sleeping child and carried her to her room. Gently laying her in bed, he tucked her in and lightly kissed her forehead. "Sleep well, pup." He whispered before leaving the room and returning to the living room. "Luna, you're going to hate me for saying this, but what if she is doing something to harm you two, and you just can't see it?" He moved to the coffee table and lifted his cup from the surface. Retaking a sip, he began to pace. He had to word this right and was trying to figure out how. Luna made a growling sound. This was different than before, as she was genuinely irritated. It almost seemed like Sam's growl when he was upset. She didn't know what to say to make him change how he saw it. "I'm not stupid, Sam. I wouldn't do anything to let Gage be harmed. And she's fine." She finally turned over to face away from Sam. She wiped her face from her tears before putting a hand to her head. She had a headache now from what she didn't know. Hearing the growl, Sam sighed. Yeah, that's it, i***t. Piss her off. That'll blow over well. Putting his cup in the sink, he moved to her. He knelt beside her and whined. "I'm sorry, I just can't help but feel like something is not right here." Looking at his knees, he sighed and stood. He'd leave her alone now. It was the best option he could think of. Moving to the front door, he reached out for the handle. With a turn of the knob, he pulled open the door and stepped outside. The rain had let up a bit, so he wouldn't be completely soaked when he got home, but the dying sounds of thunder still loomed in the air. Perhaps Luna would be better tomorrow. "I'll talk to you later, Luna." His words were soft as he closed the door and walked away from her house.
